You might think Brian K isnt the best coach but if you look at ND's Record they are getting better.

8-5 8-5 and if you win 7 games for 2012 Brain K has done his job. You just cant expect ND to compete with Michigan, USC, Texas, Oklahoma, and win. These teams have so many more 4 and 5 star players and it just not a fair match up. Got it keep it real folks, ND is a Big East team not a Pac 12 power house.

Well, ill have you know all ND needs is one, not even good, just decent QB and were off to a bcs bowl.

I have been telling people the last few years that ND is 2 or 3 players away from winning 10 or 11 games. They can compete they just need more talent. Loosing Lynch, Tee, and Dingleberry hurt bad.

The other thing ND under Brian K looks like they are over thinking every play and are pushing too hard. The speed is there, the D is getting better but they look like they are trying to over play. That is how turnovers happen.

It's especially bad considering the schedule this year... last year was the year to break through... they can still pull it off sure, but the year to really expect it was 2011... now if BK only wins 6-7 games this year...........

had to have 2011

I strongly agree. I agree with the guy on ESPN, if Kelly won 8 games, I'd be ecstatic.

yeah it did,... last year ND had a really good team... they just couldn't put it together. I would say they were a better team on paper than a couple BCS teams... you could maybe even say they were better than Michigan (Robinson obviously being a huge factor FOR Um) but ND has certainly had better players than Michigan lately...

but again, ND just can't get out of their own way.

I think saying we are a Big East team (good one) and not a Pac 12 power is a pretty fair statement over the past five seasons.

You have to look at is this way. This year Michigan is going to be very tough. Robinson is back and slinging and most likely they will beat ND. But think about next year, they have an outstanding QB coming in to play Hokes Pro Style offense. If ND does not make progress with a QB this year, they will be starting at the same level as Hoke next year. Right now Brain K has a one year advantage over Michigan to pick a QB and coach him up. If he plays Tommy Turnover ND is toast for another 2 years. The obvious choice is sticking with Hendrix and Golsen. Rotate them every other game, or quarter to quarter but no more musical QB coming in and out every other play that is just silly.

It's one thing not to be able to handle Big 10 or Pac 12 opponents but when you are dropping games to Big East Teams or being evenly played by teams like Pitt my friends you aren't much better. I am glad that ND fans are coming around to realty. All of these years of NC talk just makes us all look pathetic. Until this team can walk in and beat down Pitt by 24 points and make Navy and Air Force look like a HS team, we aren't playing in any BCS Bowl or NC. Brian K has not beat a top ranked opponent in my eyes. Utah was ridiculous although I was at that game and it was a great time. USC win was nothing to talk about, and the only other team I would say that was a good win was Michigan State.
I think Kiffen out coached Brain K in every aspect of the game and I think this year is going to be the same all over again.

I would say Michigan is obviously the better team this year... but year to year that has not been the case regardless of who won what game over the past five years... I say ND/UM is a good matchup year to year... Both have a way to go before they beat OU/Texas or SC consistently...

He is an average QB at best. Decent QB would be giving him a bit to much credit IMO. What exactly has he shown?

Well, he has a strong arm....um nope. He does have good accuracy...nope. He does have outstanding mobility.... not even close. Well.... he absolutely makes great decisions then...still no.

Michigan shouldn't be a better team this year. They have no WRs, they lost their 2 best DL and their secondary is still shaky. Had someone no brain farted last year we should have smoked them in a blow out. Stop Denard from running, and win the game.

Sorry, but that's dumb. No way is Kelly going Quarter to Quarter with those two. And I absolutely disagree that Michigan will beat Notre Dame. No way that happens 4 times in a row. Michigan was getting their a*ses handed to them on a silver platter, in their own stadium, at night, and it took a complete Tommy Rees and DB meltdown along with Devil Magic from Denard Robinson to win. This time, It's at Notre Dame, at night. Michigan hasn't been more talented than Notre Dame since Rich Rod was hired.

agreed, of course, I still think we have been the better team the last two years. Should have beaten them by double digits @Ann Harbor last year. Honestly, if we dont beat Michigan by at least 10 points this year, I will be a little disappointed. :(

We had BY FAR a better team than Michigan two and three years ago... and I think our teams were far closer than the final records implied last year.

In fact we dominated that game for three Q's... and still lost.

Who cares about dominating when the game ends and we have less points than our opponent we have lost. It just doesn't matter anymore ! We played so good up until this play or that play. I have heard this for years now. Its like matching 3 number on the lottery and saying you almost won the lottery. When is this team going to be able to close out a game and stop making amateur mistakes ?

Florida, Michigan, Florida State - There are your lottery games. USC was flat out the better team and Keffin out coached Brian K. There is no debating that fact !

So let me get this strait. By your checks and balances, if only the W's matter, playing well against Michigan is irrelevant, but getting out played by SC isn't? You don't get to pick and choose to support your pessimistic point of view. That's a logical fallacy.

By the way, it's Kiffin.

Anyone that watched that game could tell you we just came out FLAT.

"outcoaching" is simply an excuse for our on-field performance.

Isn't part of coaching getting your team up for big games and NOT coming out flat though?

I would never argue that Kiffin has the ability to outcoach anybody, much less count to potato, but on that particular day, his team was ready to play, ours wasn't, so hats off to him.

Perhaps Notre Dame didn't come out flat so much as USC came out enraged. The Trojans looked at the Super Bowl-esque hype and were drooling to come out and punch the Irish square in the face (keep in mind that they wanted revenge for 2010 too).

Fans are notorious for saying "well, we just didn't show up!" and yeah, that is part of the game, but more times than not it's just the other team being more motivated.

Why do you think, 99% of the time, coaches refrain from saying anything remotely close to bulletin board material? They don't want to motivate the other guys. USC was uber-motivated.

The Irish gathered themselves and fought back into the game, and that deserves a ton of credit. Weis' teams would have touched their toes and taken it 40-0.

An almost win doesn't matter. At the end of the year you have wins and losses. Michigan won the ND game and many others and as a result they are sitting with the number 1 recruiting class in the nation and poised to do it again. Notre Dame is sitting 8-5 with another bowl loss. Yes it matters ! By my logic Notre Dame could lose to Michigan big this time. I hope they don't but everything is pointing for a Michigan win.
