Was watching some PAC 10 games last night, here are some quick observations:

Washington State v. USC:

OJ Mayo is a gunner. Plain and simple.
He shot 9-17 had 22 points and went 2-2 from the line. What does that tell ya? He has bad shot selection and he does not go to the rim enough. IMO at this point he is a mid to low first round draft pick. No way do I see that he is a lottery pick at this point. He needs to better understand what team ball is. I seen him play a multiple times this year and each time I've seen him he frustrated me. I keep thinking to myself "Is this supposedly the next Lebron?" I don't see it yet but time will tell.
Taj Gibson the best player USC has at this point only shot 10 times. Although he made 8 shots, he needs to be getting the ball more. He can't assert himself when the guards keep hoisting up stupid shots. I seen the point guard (not Mayo) back a guy down and shoot a fade away jumper. Nothing but air. Mind you he shot the ball almost near the elbow of the key. Terrible. If this keeps up this team will not make the tournament. They will be NIT bound and they won't even make it past the second round of that tournament.
Derrick Low had an off game but man does he remind me of Steve Nash. This guy is quick. As seen last night even when he has an off game he can get his team involved and still create off the dribble. I would love for WSU to speed up the game a little and get more points on the board. Yet and still if it ain't broke don't fix it. Bennet is doing a great job up there and this is a legitimate top 10 team.

Washington vs UCLA:

The Washington guards have NO clue. I guess the UCLA defense will make you look like that. I have seen Washington a couple of times and they are way too inconsistent at the guard position. The big guy Wallace can't hit a free throw to save his life. The guy is liability out there big time. Brockman is the best player on the team and its's more than obvious. There is a big drop off of talent after him. He need someone to step up alongside him. I don't see this team making the postseason this year. Pondexter is a disappointment so far. They expected alot out of him this year and he has not been asserting himself as he should.

UCLA is a Final Four team. No question. That kid Kevin Love can pass very, very, very well. He has a high b-ball IQ. It is borderline Legendary (I'm not going to make the error in saying that he is the next Bird, different positions and it's just too predictable.) I love his skill set, he can hit the three, post up and pass exceptionally well. He isn't the most athletic guy but he has what people underestimate:INTANGIBLES. Westbrook is a hawk. That guy is very underestimated in my book. I love the way he attacks with no fear. He is fast becoming one of my favorite players in the country. If this team doesn't make the Final Four, then I'll be shocked. Top Three team hands down.

Best Four teams at the end of this week:
Memphis
UCLA
Kansas
UNC--These guys need to play better defense. If they choke I like Georgetown taking that spot.

All of those teams will likely end up #1 seeds and I dont think that its ever ended up where all #1 sees made up the entire final 4, might be wrong though

I remember 3 out of 4 making it numerous times. Usually people say Final Four teams as to say the best 4 teams out there...

Your team got some killer perimeter defense. Two hawks in Chalmers and Collins. Can't forget about Robinson. They have a deep backcourt which will bode well against elite teams. My only issue with Kansas is frontcourt depth. But you can say the same with Memphis...

In the frontcourt this year Darnell Jackson might be the most improved player in the conference, he is playing out of his Gord. Darrell Arthur is really talented, but still inconsistent. You are probably right, we can rotate 4 big bodies, w/ these two and Sasha Kaun, and Cole Aldrich. W/ Kaun he is still pretty raw, and inconsistent, and Cole is gonna be legit but he is a freshman. I love our guards/forwards, maybe a little lacking at Center, but you are right its the same w/ Memphis, that Dorsey kid is a physical beast but w/ the ball in his hand he looks horrible.

The on ball pressure that the guards put on opposing ball handlers can make up that difference. Chalmers especially is dynamic on D. I like watching him get at it.

You guys play a decent Nebraska team in Lincoln this Saturday. I haven't seen Nebraska play yet but from what is being said this will be a good test for Kansas.

Sureal, reps. Washington has a good team, and after that game last night, I was thinking the same exact thing, UCLA is final four team. Not only Kevin Love, but, and forgive me if I butcher his name, Luc Richard Mbah-a-Moute has developed into the player that showed so much potential and flash 2 years ago.

UCLA is sick.

I'll agree, next year will be tough, but they have the talent coming back to make a run. The Zou is tough and I think Anderson is a good coach, but he doesn't have his horses yet. Sorry we hijacked this thread, the Irish also have a big game against Marquette, at least we can agree on who we want to win that one. Go Irish!!!

UConn v Georgetown:

I tell you what, that Jerome Dyson cost UConn the game. He was invisible once again in a big game. UConn needs him to step up and be the player that everyone is talking about. Not just against Central Connecticut State but against the likes of Georgetown and ND. AJ Price is turning into an exceptional player. You have to appreciate the way he runs the team. Thabeet was a beast, yet he still is not NBA ready. Stanley Robinson at times was absolutely lost. No clue. There was one time where he dribbled inside the key, pumped faked, turned around and threw the ball away. Agonizing. They have to learn to win tough, tight games.
Georgetown on the other hand... You wonder if an earthquake can rattle this team. Their big Hibbert turned the ball over a couple of times during crucial moments yet at the end of regulation hits a three pointer to win the game. Mind you it was his second three pointer of his career. I didn't realize how well that team can shoot as a whole. Everyone was hitting three pointers. From Ewing to Sapp. This team is a very good squad that can definately get to the Final Four.

Hey did you see Kentucky upend the OVERRATED Vanderbilt Commodores? Good win for the 'Cats. Watched bits and pieces of the game as I was switching over to GT-UCONN.

WSU-UCLA:

I was waiting all week to see this one. I thought this game was going to be a wash after watching the first 10 minutes. I can't remember seeing a team so enthused with playing defense as I did UCLA. If anyone watched the game they would remember the stand that UCLA had when the score was like 26-8. The team forced the guards to pick up the ball well outside the three point line and they were just beautifully playing help defense. Howland was cheering the team on as the shot clock was going down and then a WSU guard turned the ball over. You could see the bench cheer the defensive stand as if one of the players had a highlight dunk. You guys know I'm a UConn fan but I am fast becoming a fan of this years edition of UCLA Mens Basketball. What can't they do? Oh I know. Defend the three pointer. My goodness. The WSU guards, mainly Low, must have hit 6 three pointers in the span of 20 seconds at the end of the game. It's an exaggeration obviously but it just seemed like they couldn't miss. They cut a double digit lead to like 3 with like 30 seconds left. It was a high scoring game which surprised me being that both teams play exceptional team defense. The game didn't live up to expectations because it really wasn't that close until the end. It will be interesting to see what WSU does at home against UCLA.

Bob Knight got his 900th win. I was wondering would you let your kid play for Knight? I know he's a hard ass and doesn't turn out NBA players, but one thing thell'y be prepared for life and its challenges.....your thoughts

it's ok to play for a guy like that b/c he expects and demands excellence. the one thing that is unacceptable, and i don't know that bobby knight does this, is playing mind games with young kids. a guy named pat murphy used to thrive and get off on trying to ruin kids mentally. it's truly sad he's been at ASU this long. i can't imagine the perceived power he has and enforces in the desert. what a shame. you are correct, though, going through an experience like that prepares you for the BS that can exist in society. you learn to survive.

I played for a football coach that was similar to Bob Knight. he was by the book or else. Every year at least 7 kids would get kicked off the football team for drinking or even going to a party where there was drinking. He STILLS run that type of program today. You HAD to maintain a C average. If you fell under that you can forget it. He consistantly has teams that wins as well. So it depends. Some kids can't stand him because he's tough but me I loved him because he demanded the more. It was more of a challenge and you took pride in being able to meet those demands...

Didn't watch any ball last night. Did Carolina look like crap again on the defensive side or was G-Tech playing otherworldly?
