Was watching some PAC 10 games last night, here are some quick observations:
Washington State v. USC:
OJ Mayo is a gunner. Plain and simple.
He shot 9-17 had 22 points and went 2-2 from the line. What does that tell ya? He has bad shot selection and he does not go to the rim enough. IMO at this point he is a mid to low first round draft pick. No way do I see that he is a lottery pick at this point. He needs to better understand what team ball is. I seen him play a multiple times this year and each time I've seen him he frustrated me. I keep thinking to myself "Is this supposedly the next Lebron?" I don't see it yet but time will tell.
Taj Gibson the best player USC has at this point only shot 10 times. Although he made 8 shots, he needs to be getting the ball more. He can't assert himself when the guards keep hoisting up stupid shots. I seen the point guard (not Mayo) back a guy down and shoot a fade away jumper. Nothing but air. Mind you he shot the ball almost near the elbow of the key. Terrible. If this keeps up this team will not make the tournament. They will be NIT bound and they won't even make it past the second round of that tournament.
Derrick Low had an off game but man does he remind me of Steve Nash. This guy is quick. As seen last night even when he has an off game he can get his team involved and still create off the dribble. I would love for WSU to speed up the game a little and get more points on the board. Yet and still if it ain't broke don't fix it. Bennet is doing a great job up there and this is a legitimate top 10 team.
Washington vs UCLA:
The Washington guards have NO clue. I guess the UCLA defense will make you look like that. I have seen Washington a couple of times and they are way too inconsistent at the guard position. The big guy Wallace can't hit a free throw to save his life. The guy is liability out there big time. Brockman is the best player on the team and its's more than obvious. There is a big drop off of talent after him. He need someone to step up alongside him. I don't see this team making the postseason this year. Pondexter is a disappointment so far. They expected alot out of him this year and he has not been asserting himself as he should.
UCLA is a Final Four team. No question. That kid Kevin Love can pass very, very, very well. He has a high b-ball IQ. It is borderline Legendary (I'm not going to make the error in saying that he is the next Bird, different positions and it's just too predictable.) I love his skill set, he can hit the three, post up and pass exceptionally well. He isn't the most athletic guy but he has what people underestimate:INTANGIBLES. Westbrook is a hawk. That guy is very underestimated in my book. I love the way he attacks with no fear. He is fast becoming one of my favorite players in the country. If this team doesn't make the Final Four, then I'll be shocked. Top Three team hands down.
Best Four teams at the end of this week:
Memphis
UCLA
Kansas
UNC--These guys need to play better defense. If they choke I like Georgetown taking that spot.
