I'm pretty sure they will make their decisions based on academic premises, and if the seniors had survived at Notre Dame for four years already, they shouldn't have much trouble making the cut just one more year.

Well as far as saying that he plans on coming back... yes, but nothing official from the school on them being accepted back. They are all in good standing, so it's just a matter of time that it will be official that will be back for sure.

I think it's

Laws
Zibby
Brockington
Wooden
Stephenson

Wooden isn't that horrible. I'm glad to have him back. If a younger guy beats him out, then it'll be nice to have him for depth, experience and leadership. If a younger guy doesn't beat him out, then I guess that means he's better than them, and then it'll be good to have him too.

Absolutely right. We can use his experience and leadership; it's not like we're short on scholarships. And let Weis and C. Brown make decisioins about who belongs on the field.

Just from a pure numbers perspective relative to how recruiting seems to be finishing up this season, especially on the defensive side of the ball, I think that it's in our best interest to have all of these gentleman back for a 5th. They could prove to be that buffer needed to aid what will be a very young, inexperienced unit on D and hopefully provide some stability at some positions of need.

With that being said, ultimately we're gonna want to get some of these younger fellas on the field and get some much needed experience. :)

If McNeil &/or Walls can't beat him out this year, then they would seem to have been vastly overrated. Wooden is a good athlete, but that doesn't equate to being a good cover corner. I'd be suprised if Walls or McNeil didn't earn a starting corner spot w/ Wooden playing the nickel. But bottom line, you're right, we need the depth & experience & Weis will be nowhere near filling out his total avail. scholarship on Feb 7th.

Absolutely right -- I feel the same way about wanting to get the young guys on the field, and I'm sure that the coaches will work to make that happen. But playing time has to be based on PERFORMANCE, not potential -- their star rating doesn't mean s**t when the whistle blows. Again, these are decisions that are best made by the coaching staff, not a bunch of overexcited recruiting junkies.

besides the fact that he can't cover a WR even with a 10yd cushion, he's not bad. he is one of the worst CB's we have. i admire the fact that he is trying and working hard in the classroom, but i would rather see a young kid take his lumps than one more year of 22 getting torched game in, game out.

I'd rather the best player play....

I no longer care about recruiting what I want to see is a mean nasty raw meat eating blood dripping d that beats offenses both physically and mentally and I don't care who is on the field as long as thats the way they play!!!!!

back to ziby, he is coming back... and I'd be suprised if he stays in the backfield if we do indeed go 3-4... not only could he make a good linebacker in a 3-4 but who the hell else is gonna do it??????....all he has to do is bulk up a tad more(which he's a boxer, come on shouldn't be hard) ... we now have some depth in the D backfield(at least more than LB for sure), it'll be a battle to see who plays with Bruton if Ziby does move up but I think it would be a smart move, and one that should be expected...

:soapbox: I'm getting tired of reading about folks bashing our players! One, they are kids playing a game. Two, as fans its our job to prop and/or pick our guys up when they have a rough game or year. Wooden is a fine player, who yes got beat on some plays. But until you can walk on the field and beat him out for the job, shut your trap and cheer for him. He obviously was the best guy for the job last year. He might be the biggest surprise of the year next year. Fella's it is our job as fans to support the team, not tear it to shreads!:soapbox:

Stalking Eagle listed the names of the 9 that have applied. An annoucement is usually made before Spring Ball starts.

ND policy is they have to apply then a Faculty Committee reviews each case and gives approval. It's pretty much rubber stamp but they wouldn't be applying for another year of scholarship if the head coach didn't want them back and the head coach knows exactly what the Faculty require of a student-athlete to qualify for a 5th Academic Year.

irishranger, I agree 100%. These are good guys who put in tons and tons and tons of work to be the best players they can be. None of them are perfect, but they do their best to be as good of players as they can be. That doesn't mean that fans can't discuss their performance, but ripping them isn't being very supportive of the individual or the team.

and where on earth did you get those little soap box guys? that's funny.
