Dabo and PJ Fleck are two examples I can recall. Dabo was promoted from within at Clemson and Fleck took the WMU job which was a huge mess at the time. All I know of Hartline is he has recruited some great WR talent to Ohio State as the Ohio State WR coach. He played in the NFL for a decent spell and seems very popular on this board among the ND fans on it. Apart from that, a lot of folks seem very eager to see him as an OC or HC. We're about to find out.

Cincinnati is in a very good situation right now at present and going into the future. It's a good job that I don't know that I'd give away to someone who is 7th or 8th lieutenant at Ohio State, but if that's the route they want to go, it's their call and they know better than I do I suppose.

Urban Meyer went from position coach to the HC at Bowling Green.

Ed O has never been a coordinator. I don't know how to evaluate his coaching career. I think he would have been successful for some time if he didn't go off the deep end at LSU.

Meyer also went to a MAC dumpster fire in that scenario. Gary Blackney had six losing seasons in a row and his last was 2-9. I believe Urban tells the story that he told Holtz he was getting the job and Holtz said something to the effect of "Of course you are, nobody else wants it."

Orgeron had the reputation as a great recruiter wherever he was, which included Miami and USC during some of their rather exciting off the field escapades. He was a disaster at Ole Miss. The LSU situation was him being a good HC, recruiting but also hiring good coordinators to delegate to.

Best hunch, Hartline falls somewhere in the middle at a job like UC. Best case is he's Meyer/Fleck, worst case is he's Ole Miss Orgeron?

His story of recruiting Adrian Peterson while at USC is legendary.

AD's dad was in prison in Oklahoma, and he tried to get him transferred to LA.

Herman is interesting. Had a lot of success as an OC and at Houston. His tenure at Texas looks better every year. Took over for Charlie Strong’s disaster and improved the program. Led them to their only 10 win season since 2009 plus a Sugar bowl over Georgia. I’d say more success than Kiffin had before his FAU rehab stint. I wouldn’t bet against him, we’ll see.

I think they made a good choice in hiring him and he made a good choice in going there. He's more likely to have Kiffin results vs Taggart results.

Charlie Partridge went 3-9 three years in a row at FAU as a first time HC but they were building the program with recruits. Kiffin got there and they had some horses. I don't know what Herman is walking into roster wise, but we're in a new age where there is no such thing as a rebuild with the Portal.

As with anyone, his staff is going to be key for him.

He's a big name, and the recruiting chops would help them as they move into the Big 12 next season. But you're correct, it would make more sense to go with a proven head coach.

My heart is at Ohio State until the right dollar amount comes...

Love it when they say stuff like this. My favorite is always "I'll be at 'school' as long as they'll have me", which totally means I'll be here if they can match whatever salary offer comes my way.

I wonder if Shaw knew the impact him leaving would have. Stanford’s roster is going to be gutted if none of these guys return.

Also surprised that many guys are transferring based off Shaw, maybe the players have heard whispers as to what’s next? An uninspiring hire that shows Stanford isn’t taken this seriously?

Leader tackler, center and RT all entered today. DE, CB, other lineman the other day.

By all accounts, David Shaw was pretty beloved by his players (and by those in CFB). I think it makes sense that a lot of the players are leaving with him stepping down. Especially those with the degree.....

I don’t know. This isn’t the SWAC. Would Travis Hunter really follow him to Colorado? Would more Travis Hunter type talents want to go to Colorado when they can go to any SEC team of their choosing, USC, Ohio State, etc?

Tough call.

Colorado really doesn’t like Eric Bieniemy.
