Mike Hart (IU, was in running for ND RB coach job before) expected to become RB coach at SCUM

He finished 2nd to LT for the RB job here a couple years ago, right?

You gotta wonder about this as a lateral or even backwards move. IU is on the rise (have Fryfogle and Penix back next year), Hart was named AHC in addition to RB coach in 2020 at IU. If I read it correctly, he's just RB coach at Michigan

And Michigan's... well Michigan's almost as bad as we'd hoped. Harbaugh's new contract is firing-friendly, which likely means less job security for Hart than he had at IU.

Am I missing something? Is this just a guy wanting to go back home? More money?

i would say its this. Harbaugh gets fired and hes probably a good shot to take over as HC. He's a Michigan Man after all

Valdieserri has to be related to the former ND SID right?

Which part? I'm never surprised when a guy comes out of retirement. Seems like a great spot for Urban. Has a potential generational QB in a sport where that's the most important piece. Knows the area, is popular. I think he'll do well.

So Sark nabs Bama OL Coach Kyle Flood and gives him OC title (Sark calling plays) and Bama ST Coordinator Jeff Banks and tabs him Assistant HC with STC. Hooking his buddies up with a little extra cash with those titles!

I don’t know about CFB but in MLB it’s standard to deny outside interviews unless they are interviewing for a promotion.

I just don't see him translating well to the NFL personally.

He is competitive to the point of anxiety, right? Along with his supposed health issues (cyst on brain?).

Tony Romo may call Meyer having a stroke on the sidelines live on TV.

Falling up, my gosh, such a re-tread. Maybe he finds success in the NFL and under Meyer.

I don't think the NFL and college games are that different anymore. Think you will see more and more crossover success. I think he can do well as long as health issues don't interfere.

The NFL will magnify his biggest weakness (doesn’t take losing well to a extreme level) and will minimize his biggest strength (recruiting). Does that mean he will be a bad NFL coach? No. But I still think he’s a better college coach, not a huge hot take but that’s how I’d evaluate it

I'm curious how this works out as well. He is going to need a team of therapist around him at all times. I mean, no matter how great a season he has, he's still going to lose 4/5/6 games. Even if he won the damn super bowl.

this has to be overblown though hasn't it? Like any coach will mull a game for 24 hours and then move on right?

He went to the hospital in 2009 after a loss.

He said his health was not great “near the end” talking about leaving Florida.

I’m sure there is more to cite from OSU days.

Those are not “any coach”. When he harnesses it well it is what makes him great, but what happens after a 7-9 Year 3 and misses the playoffs? That’s what people are wondering

He was definitely a great recruiter but that is not why he was successful. He won games right away at every stop and with previous regimes players.

12-0 2nd season at Utah
13-1 2nd season at Florida NC
12-0 1st season at Ohio State

At every stop, his first year record was much better than the previous season. Guy can flat win. In college. Let's see how he does in the pros.

Pete Thamel:

Spoke to a veteran college coach today who predicts more college coaches head to the NFL to avoid the seismic changes coming with NIL and the transfer rules. "Every college coach right now is somehow, someway aspiring to go to the NFL."

He and Meyer have had multiple stops together, including at Notre Dame. Meyer has proven he prefers his guys and is loyal to his guys. I expect Mattison is getting phone calls from Meyer as well.

Meyer is one of the best ever at the college level, but...

1) He won't have roster control.

2) He won't have the most talent in the league.

3) Trevor Lawrence is gifted, but none of us know how he will translate to the league.

4) I guess the cyst on his brain is OK???

5) Pete Carroll is the only coach who went from college to pro successfully, and he had plenty of NFL experience prior to that.
