Well. They beat Oregon on the road. So they have to be above Oregon. They should be ahead of Michigan State as well via that win. I don't think they have Top-15 talent, but they deserve the ranking right now IMO

Washington State will challenge them, and they will fall at UCLA. Write it down :)

To an extent, yes. 16 and 13 slots.... Don't buy out. TCU will play @Baylor next week, so we'll see. No way AZ should have jumped that far. They barely beat UTSA, and had close ones at home with Nevada and Cal. Uh, no.

My premise is that the preseason rankings were wrong to begin with. So I don't see why a team can't make a huge jump based on on-field results.

How are Oregon and Oklahoma still ranked ahead of Arizona and TCU, respectively? AZ and TCU are both undefeated and beat those other two teams. Say what you want about their other wins....they beat teams that have only one loss that is to them.

And AZ and TCU are undefeated. Don't care how they're undefeated...because they are...and the higher ranked opponents they just beat, are not.

At this point in time, TCU and AZ should be ranked higher than Oklahoma and Oregon. May not actually be better by years end and I doubt they will be...but that's just criminal to have them behind those teams they just beat.

Just my opinion.

There's no way these people see all the games. Where else could they catch all the highlights in a short period and get on with the rest of their day?

FWIW I read an article that said the committee members all have tablets with an app that allows them to watch any game they want for just this reason.

That much of a drop for Stanford is stupid. They lost a very close game, on the road, in a fall monsoon, to a higher ranked team, and the voters are punishing them. If only we could all be in the SEC... Then everyone could be an overrated waste of a football team unassociated with outside things like academics and rules.

Feeling this quite strongly: Better Off Without 'Em: A Northern Manifesto for Southern Secession:Amazon:Books

Hey now all southerners aren't full of crap I'm born and raised in Bama and I see the SEC bias bs clearly, plus I'm ND all the way.

Any given Saturday rule

Disagree with that concept, not you...unless you agree with it haha. They took care of business on the field when they had the chance. They should be ranked ahead of the teams they just beat and who they have a better (undefeated) record than.

If it was an "any given Saturday rule" then ND probably shouldn't have been in the title game in '12. Which we certainly should have been in because we took care of business on the field when we were given the chance...just like AZ and TCU did this week.

Basically the voters put no value on beating the #14 team in the country. Otherwise we would be #4 at worst.

ND inched their way up the charts win by win. They did not vault up 16 places.

Nah, rankings seem fair to me.

We weren't overly impressive against Stanford, guys. Blame the conditions, but it is what it is.

Plenty more games ahead of us. One week at a time. The chance to rise is there.

#14 ranked and #1 defense in the country. We doubled their per game ypg allowed. Plus scoreboard.

I'm okay with being ranked lower than everyone else, we've already got a target on our back, but being #1 expands that target ten fold. The media gives them no respect, and should be great bulletin board material and a way to make the team angry enough to prove everyone wrong!

They're not in the SEC there for they weren't a real #14 team.

Stanford is always well respected in the polls and power metrics, but for some reason beating them never grants any. It's so weird.....

So if ND was undefeated and went on the road and just beat #2 Oregon and Oregon was still ranked ahead of us, you would think that is a fair ranking?

So it would look like this:

ND (5-0), win over #2 Oregon
Oregon (4-1), loss to Notre Dame

You'd be ok with ND being ranked behind Oregon?

It would be kind of like when ND got screwed out of the title game in '93 with a win over FSU...except worse because ND and FSU had the same record. In this case AZ has a better record than Oregon AND a win over them and are still ranked behind them?

Or if, hypothetically, we beat UNC next weekend and go down to Tallahassee and beat #1 FSU and have a better record than them...it would be ok for them to still be ranked ahead of us (after losing to us) because "any given Saturday"?

It will all sort itself out by seasons end so it doesn't really matter but right now...those rankings are BS. Way too much stock is put into the preseason rankings and way too little stock is put into the on field results. Just my opinion.
