My, my, I like Clausen but lets look at the defenses he has "torched". Were any of them in the top 90? I think he has a great future and made great progress, but lets see what he can do against some of the better defenses in the country (USC #5 defense for one) before we re-rank all the great ND qbs.
Way too early for this. It's wise for QB's to stay 4 years to get seasoned to become Pro's, I always thought Ryan stunk at BC until his senior year, same with Carson Palmer, but they seem to have benefited from the 4 year stay.
There goes another statistician.Otherweis, great point.

Well, I actually had to look it up.I was not trying to bash him. I always said he would be a great one especially after watching him in the high school east/west army game. (or whatever it was). He has a strong accurate arm. There are still 11 guys on the field that have to do their thing too. I like this years team. Its a long season. It aint even cold yet.
I will refuse, because I plan on dating three 19 year old vivacious females and selling magazines at that time.
Ah, an aspiring writer/publisher? Or maybe the next Hef?Anyway, thanks for reply.
One thing about Irish footbal is that there are many great quarterbacks to discuss. Especially if you want to go back to the Lamonica and Hanratty days. Remember those guys? How many Notre Dame quarterbacks have been in Super Bowls? Or better yet, How many Super Bowls have had Notre Dame players period?
Was that spelling intentional?![]()
I can see your points. I still think he's excellent at escaping the pressure, but that might be my Irish eyes talking. I also agree with Steve M. that he needs to step UP in the pocket and
not sideways. I forgot to mention that. He's still very young, with only a handful of starts under his belt. The specialness is there (God I hope he shows it this weekend!!!). I'll be here to eat crow if I'm wrong...
why is it hard to believe a player may leave early? Walker left early and I believe he also graduated (not sure exactly on that one).
Thats a tough one sort of. The obvious choices would be Montana, Rice, Powlus, Mirer, McDougal, just to name a few of the more recent ones. I enjoyed watching them all. I barely remember Theisman at Notre Dame. I recall Lamonica and Hanratty from their NFL years but not their Irish years. I guess you have to have a special appreciation of the ones on National Championship teams. Like Montana, Rice, Clements. I have researched most of the greats and can list them but alot of them I did not see first hand. I used to watch the replay of Irish football games every sunday morning in the early seventies. (attended Mass according to air time of game). I go back as far as Clements for memory. The Penn St. snow game with Mirer was one of my favorites. 73 Sugar Bowl with Clements. Montana and the Cotton Bowl. Another favorite moment was Rocket smoking Tennessee on a punt return in Knoxville to provide the winning margin. Many moments I enjoyed. Waters gashing Tennessee. The Bus blasting thru the linebacker Bates of A&M in the Cotton Bowl right on the goal line.
Yikes you read fast. I clicked "Submit reply" after I edited and you had already posted an answer.
Anyway.
I know you were not bashing. You were giving a sensible response. I have read all of your posts and you seem to be a poster with massive common sense and decency. Or maybe I was tipsy when I read your posts.
I simply think this guy is that good. 12 years from now, some nerd will find my posts about Jimmy and offer me a pro scouting job. I will refuse, because I plan on dating three 19 year old vivacious females and selling magazines at that time. Until that time, I will continue to post my opinion on a forum with not a single hope for any contact with anything female. Except for the mannequin at Target.
NFL scouts want realistic assessment with statistics included, not opinion that is blinded by devotion.
As far as the Target mannequin....that's the most realistic thing I've ever seen you post.
Go away dude. You bore me.
And you are about to piss me off.
Go away dude. You bore me.
You guys are crying for your rights. 3 states support you. I will listen. Just don't try to be a pain in my asshole. I will swipe you away kinda quickly.
Stay here dude. You make me laugh.
k
Do you know the psychological term "projection?"
You scream it out dude. Or dudess. You been suckin on me since I signed up. It was fun at first. Move on to your next sugardaddy, lil girl.
You have 42 more posts than I do and my rep is way higher so I suppose that my thoughts are more highly thought of than yours. Why than would I blame you for my unwanted thoughts?
Great points. But...
It is not too early because this question is already being asked in "the streets." That means a whole bunch of people that watch ND football think he is that good (to include the "haters").
...
NDoomer,
You're the one "hating" on anyone who does not have same assessment of Clausen that you do.
Look, this is an ND site. And when I (we) "talk" ND we wear an ND hat. But when I (we) "talk" Pro, the ND hat comes off because a Pro scout doesn't wear one. The assessment is clinical not emotional. We're just talking from a different perspective.
You can hype Jimmy up in your mind all you want. But just don't knock the other guys for not being active participants in you day dreams when we talk Pro.
And frankly, calling us "haters' for making honest assessments about a kid we actually like on a team we love is an insult.
Versteh?
SteveM
Lets get through his Sophomore year. Way early to be talking early entry for the draft. Kinda ridiculous if you ask me.
