This comes as no surprise, we all knew tuff toe was bad but not to this extent, the kid was a stud and if he can grasp the pro game he will be a difference maker, and the scouts know it. Its a shame he didnt come thru Notre Dame when they had a defense and running game. You will see the difference next year when passes arent exactly on target like this guy lasered them in. Criqui said he is a tremendous talent an Don Criqui has been watching a lot of football for 30 yrs.

I agree. I think this past season, the difference between Clausen and Crist was huge, and we will likely see some of that next year. His passing masked much of the offense's problems to a degree.

McShay (whatever you think of him) would argue that Tate and Floyd masked many of Jimmy's problems.

mike shanahan has intimated that he would not be interested in a QB with their first pick, and unless things fall apart, he will be their coach. im not even that crazy about taking a qb that high in general. the success of highly drafted qb's has been poor for a long time. there are a few exceptions.

where has shanny said that he wouldn't be interested in a QB? i haven't read that anywhere.

Really? Matt Ryan had a bad start? You can't be afraid to draft someone because there have been failures at that same position before. That's why the teams drafting at the top usually stay there. Clausen is a once in a decade talent.

So was Ryan Leaf, or so "they" said.......

IrishR#1 did say that there were exceptions. But he has a point..most highly picked QBs struggle, because a team is generally pretty bad if they have a top 5 pick.

once in a decade talent??? sorry, i didnt quite see that out of clausen. that could be, and was, said about a bunch of these guys on the list below.

year/player/draft position

1992 David Klingler 6
1993 Rick Mirer 2
1994 Heath Shuler 3
1997 Jim Drunkenmiller 26
1998 Ryan Leaf 2
1999 Akili Smith 3
1999 Tim Couch 1
1999 Cade McNown 12
2002 Joey Harrington 1
2005 Alex Smith 1

heck, since 2002 alone, you have JaMarcus Russell, Matt Leinart, Alex Smith, JP Losman, Byron Leftwich, Kyle Boller, Rex Grossman, David Carr, and Patrick Ramsey who add to the first round bustage...then there is Quinn (i'll be kind and say the jury's still out on him).

part of the problem is there is no way to know how any of these guys will adjust to reading nfl defenses and to the speed of nfl defenses. another problem is that lots of these quarterbacks were throwing to guys in college who were either consistently wide open or dominated the people defending them, things that arent as commonplace in the nfl.

my fear is that floyd, and especially tate this year, really did some spectacular things for clausen that masked deficiencies.

as far as Shanahan, Michael Wilbon last week said in speaking with "sources" that Shanahan either wanted to stick with Cambell or go the free agent route at QB, preferring to look for a QB in a later round. take that for what it's worth.

should the rams take clausen. i wish i knew the answer to that one. statistically, they will have equal or better luck at finding the answer at qb later in the first round or in later rounds.

Clausen did a lot for not having an offensive line. I'm sorry Sam Young was a joke. The only person I thought was decent was actually none of them they all sucked. Always got dominated. Floyd and Rudolph missed significant time. Clausen is going to be good. I found an interesting read on a website about Clausen.

if anything clausen will go 4th to the redskins instead of McShay's choice of Sam Bradford

Heater Kiper/McShay debate on Clausen's draft stock and NFL potential. I missed it on TV, but it is one of the "Top Stories" on the NFL Draft 2010. I heard a debate they had about Clausen toward the end of the season, but this is a slightly newer one. Kiper really stands up for our guy well. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. At one point, Kiper says, "If Clausen drops out of the top 10, some team will be getting the steal of the century."

I saw that too, Kiper came off as knowing what he was talking about, while McShay just got red in the face like Mel was talking good about a personal enemy of his.....F-McShay, I don't know if Jimmy will be a superstar, but I agree w/ Kiper, he should be a high first round pick in this draft.

Kiper owned him. It's a must watch guys.

McShay's best line, after Kiper ripped him for degrading Jimmy's accuracy by saying Golden Tate said he rarely if ever had to adjust to Clausen's throws, was "I don't care what Tate said!!!" Really Todd? You don't care what the best wide receiver in America had to say about his QB's accuracy DURING GAMES (and not when he is on his knees in shorts and a tee shirt)? Maybe McDummy should interview a tire or a bulls-eye like they have at those combines. Maybe those things will give him a good interview...

if only he really knew that were true. before the Ryan Leaf draft, he declare that Leaf, by the end of his career, would be considered one of the best ever to play that position.

Kiper and McShay miss on guys each and every year, sometimes in a big way.

anyone who watched floyd and tate saw them adjust to plenty of clausen's throws. being a rams fan, id prefer they go after more defense and take a qb later. i dont see clausen as a once on a decade kind of qb and history says there will be guys in the later 1st rd, 2nd round, and even later than that that will be very productive nfl qb's (picking the right one is another matter entirely).

I just have this gut feeling that Clausen is going to have an amazing pro career. It just seems that since he didn't have a successful college career that he will flourish in the pros.

i know its a stretch...but with Warner not sure about his future and Leinart more worried about whats going down on Mill Ave. Clausen to Fitzgerald would be fun to watch

If the '00s (aughts) were Jimmy's decade, here's to hoping that the "Teens" will be Dayne's (however, he will generously also share the later part with Andrew/Tommy and others (read:ND starting QBs.)) Wishful thinking, haha!

It will certainly be interesting to watch Jimmy's pro career!

Except he'll be out after 2012 season so he won't actually make it to the "teens" but I get what you mean! lol

# St. Louis (1-15)
# Detroit (2-14)
# Tampa Bay (3-13)
# Washington (4-12)
# Kansas City (4-12)
# Seattle (5-11)
# Cleveland (5-11)
# Oakland (5-11)
# Buffalo (6-10)
# Jacksonville^ (7-9)

St. Louis, Tampa, Washington, Seattle, Oakland, Buffalo and Jacksonville all need QBs. If somehow Clausen is not picked ahead of Bradford at St. Louis, any one of those should pick him.

don't think Tampa will be drafting a QB. got Freeman in the first round last year...

of all the teams you listed, Seattle would be the best situation IMO. Hasslebeck has a couple of years left. Clausen can sit and learn. They do have some pieces to put around a young QB. Interesting to see what Carroll does.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Kiper a huge ND fan?
