I'm not sure if this has been posted on here yet but... I just heard on the radio that the Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office is pursuing assault charges on Gates (the punch thrower from Cincy) because of the brawl.
This kind of makes Cincy's actions of suspending Gates for 6 games seem very minor and not fit for the incident

You Xavier guys acting like all UC kids are terrible is pretty awful, and then trying to argue, that Xavier isn't in the wrong just because they're not as bad as UC kids is childish.

"But mommy, the other kids do worse all the time!"

Don't you get it? Both teams ****ed up. Deal with it. The fight was bad, and the press conference was a mockery. It was all ridiculous. With all the shame that should be laid upon these guys' heads right now, what gives someone the cojones to say that they are better than the other?

I never once said that X wasn't in the wrong. I was simply stating that I think what Tu said was partly taken out of context. If you review what I wrote, I also said that I thought his choice of words was a mistake. Regardless, Tu Holloway is not a thug. And it is bothersome that some many people are attacking him and labeling him as one. I ultimately blame Mack for letting anyone speak to the press after the game. He should have know better than to let those kids go straight from a high testosterone brawl, to a press conference where their word is put into stone.

Lastly, I never said UC kids are terrible. I said you cant compare the 2 and put them in the same category. Exucuse me if I wasnt being specific enough, but i was referring to the students on the basketball squads.

I argued not to label ANY kid as a thug, myself.

I got your gist on what Tu said being wrong, but taken out of context yada yada...

This though:
And for anyone to compare the kids that go X and categorize them the same as UC kids, you need to seriously reconsider your judgement.
What you're referring to in the last paragraph...tell me exactly what you meant by this then? In what ways are they not comparable? It sounds like a shot at the student-athletes that play basketball for UC.

Your Xavier buddy has been the one who really keeps putting his foot in his mouth with comments like:

Xavier is better than UC.

Thank you I'm not defending our kids but we are a lot better than UC and if you listened to the press conference it was not good but what he meant is that we are tough but we don't throw punches.

I was okay with a lot of what the two of you said. You admitted that Xavier played a part in the wrong-doing, but to constantly hear you guys act like Cincinnati basketball players are second-rate compared to Xavier players is unnecessary bullshit.

I'm saying, I'm okay with arguing that the Xavier players aren't thugs. I agree. I don't have any proof that these aren't decent young men, but don't act like it isn't possible for the same to be said of the UC basketball players.

You may be unaware of this, but Xavier is know for its academic standards just as our Beloved Notre Dame is. Admission at XU is much more difficult and rigorous then UC.

From my knowledge, this is the first time X has ever received any truly bad press from its basketball program. Do i seriously have to go down UC's basketball teams past criminal rapsheet right now to prove to you that XU gets upstanding well rounded kids to play ball for them? Either way I dont have the time to do that for you, go ahead and google it.

There are plents of kids that have played bball at XU that im sure would fit the mold and could have played ball at ND.

Throwing him out of school for a punch? That is a bit harsh. Consider Anthony Reddick from Miami who took his helmet off and used it as a weapon to hit an FIU player. I believe he and the other Miami players were dealt a one game suspension. What about Brittany Griner who broke that girls nose? She was suspended for two games and was a hell of a lot worse than Yancy Gates.

Notre Dame football players never defended themselves in fights. Xavier players only defended themselves again the press conference was bad and the people that threw punches are and should have been suspended by Xavier. In no way did I think its right, but UC has been in a couple fights last year when Xavier lost by twenty there were no fights. The two years when there have been altercations 2009 and 2011 Lance Stevenson of UC started scrums and Nancy Gates suckerpunched Kenny. Not supporting the fight but Xavier has good kids. Also when I said Xavier is better than UC I mean our general academic standards, athletes academics and what they do to give back to the community, and they do give back to the community.

Beau you have some of the better perspective here. Like you said ugly all around but there is a difference between suckerpunching and stomping on a kid and trash talking

Xavier players are a bunch of thugs and have been since that scum Sean Miller became coach, and Xavier as a university is in no way comparable to Notre Dame.

I currently attend Xavier University as well. I am salty about how our team acted in fight, and I am a bit salty with how much crap Tu Holloway has received. Yes, he put his foot in his mouth with the post-game presser, but he also apologized at the press conference held the next day, as well as fielding questions from the media. Some guy who writes in a South Carolina magazine called "The State" dropped Xavier completely from his top 25, and I think a lot of the media is still forgetting that Xavier is STILL one of the best basketball teams in the nation. I somewhat agree with the suspensions of Lyons and Wells, but I wished that Dezmine Wells was suspended maybe 2 or 3 extra games and maybe Mark Lyons for an extra game. Nancy Gates getting suspended for only 6 games is a joke. A complete joke. Both XU and UC have egg on the face after this, but after Mick Cronins interview that the media ate up, only a few people have called him up for being a hypocrite. Xavier, the basketball team and not the university, will come out of this more unified and I think they can have a special year. Just my .02 cents.

You should start a career in standup with all these awesome jokes you are making. UC is the thug school and always will be. Just ask esteemed UC alum Lance Stephenson, who in his short time as a Bearcat, found a way to enter college with a sexual assault charge pending, as well as tossing his girlfriend down the steps as soon as he was drafted. You call Xavier thugs? UC has a history of being thugs, with multiple players being arrested every few years, while no current Xavier player has been arrested.

He's a sore Butler student. who doesn't know a thing. But yea both schools acted bad and as I said suspensions should have been given. Really ugly but perspective is good.

This was sent out from Mack to anyone who subscribes to the Xavier Newsletter. I just got it today. Emotions run high, fights will happen...but to go around sucker punching and stomping people, you (Cinci) are in the wrong here. Enjoy (did Cinci get anything like this out?):

]I wanted to take a second to reach out to you regarding the events that occurred following our game with the University of Cincinnati last Saturday.

As we hopefully demonstrate each week with our newsletter, the relationship we have with coaches all across the globe is important to us. We have over 30,000 coaches on our email list - coaches in 50 states and 15 different countries. 99.999% of you we will never have the pleasure of meeting face to face. With only 3 scholarships a year to offer, regrettably the odds are pretty slim that you have a player that has attended Xavier, or will attend Xavier.

Even with that said, the relationship MY program has with YOUR program is something that is of the upmost of importance to me personally. Our newsletter program is meant to serve as a small token of respect for the game of basketball. In an industry that is often built on being “better than the other guy”, our newsletter and the relationship we have with you is our attempt at a direct counteraction to that unfortunate attitude that oftentimes pervades this business. We place tremendous value on helping one another and an even greater value on what each of you individually thinks of us.

I walked off the floor of the Cintas Center two days ago and gathered with my staff in the coaches’ locker room. Amidst all of the chaos, my thoughts immediately went to the impression we have created on the 30,000 programs whose relationship we truly value. I thought about the lockerrooms across the country that might have a Xavier quote tacked up. I thought about a coach who might have named a UOOB play “XAVIER” after finding it in our newsletter. I thought about each and every one of your players watching what had transpired and I was immeasurably regretful.

I hope you continue to allow our program to have a relationship with yours through our newsletter. I wish I had the opportunity to call everyone we are in contact with each and every week and apologize directly about what occurred. I assure you our program will VERY QUICKLY return to being a positive example for high school, grade school and AAU programs around the world.

Again, please accept my deepest of apologies to you, your staff, your team and school. What you saw Saturday was not Xavier Basketball and I can assure you that you will never see it again.

damage control... too little, too late.

haha, i dunno...as a fan-does anything really 'shock' us anymore? I mean to me yeah its a black eye for sports-but is it any worse than coaches almost going at it, coaching scandals, recruiting scandals, paying recruits, sex scandals, steriods, quarter of a billion contracts, etc, etc, etc..to me a lil' fight will be done and forgotten pretty quick compared to all the other thing wrong with sports these days.

While I think that this blip on the screen in comparison to the other sh!t going on the world is minor, it still is a big deal and should be dealt with severely.

Oh yes, sorry not trying to portray that it should just be let go. They need to make an example out of this so it doesn't keep happening. I like the idea of the NCAA going one step further by going the NBA route (not to often we say that anymore) and suspend players who leave the bench during altercations.

Obviously you didn't get what I said in the previous post.

Also how would slandering UC prove that XU has better kids playing basketball?

Criminal reports are also not a black and white telling sign on who is a good or bad person.

I'm not even arguing that XU kids aren't good kids! I'm just saying to sit here and try to tell me that Cincinnati can't have good kids on the level of Xavier is bologna.

Xavier players are a bunch of thugs and have been since that scum Sean Miller became coach, and Xavier as a university is in no way comparable to Notre Dame.

YOU need to quit. Stop talking **** about guys you don't even know. Here I am trying to argue that the kids on both teams could very well be great people, and you're just constantly bashing people you don't know in a HIGHLY childish manner.

This I can agree with, I guess. Certainly, Xavier does have "better" academic standards than Cincinnati.

I just hated the way you were saying "better" earlier. I know a guy who plays for Cincinnati, and he may not be the smartest guy, and he may have done some very stupid things before, but in my book, he is a good guy. He always treated me right so I'll stand up for him, but even despite him being on the team, I felt bad letting you guys (seemingly) trash on UC guys for being worse when really none of us know who they really are.

...Ya know, I think both coaches are saying the right things. I simply wonder how a kid throws a sucker punch, and then some other kids self-destruct in the press conference...and really didn't think they did anything wrong. Its great these coaches came down on them ... EXACTLY WTF were these coaches preaching/teaching before?
