He's at a -0.2 WAR right now. He'd have to have a good June and half of July to flip him. You won't get much, but at this point it doesn't matter.

Shields and Lopez have been their best starters thus far. Trading Shields would mean someone taking his money and he has an option year I believe. He's making $21M this year and the option is probably less than that but he would also have a buyout too. Even if you rent him for two months, you're still dealing with all that baggage.

For me, trading away Fernando Tatis Jr. for him was the last dumb thing this front office did. I'm willing to bet Kenny Williams had more to do with that than Rick Hahn did.

You know Lopez isn't going anywhere.

Avisail Garcia should have been traded last year, if not this past winter.

Tatis was bonehead move.. Shields can be bought out for $2 million next year and SD is on the hook for that, so he is a free agent. He did look good his last 3 starts, minus the 1st inning at the Cubs.. I'd love to see him get traded for even a B prospect and a bag of bats. Lopez will be no where is right guy is a bull.

I think they'll jettison whatever they have of value come July. Still not sure about Abreu, but if someone comes looking and offers up a package of prospects, Rick Hahn might be forced to take the deal.

Surely any decent bullpen help is going to get moved along like last year. That's where a contending team is going to offer up real value.

Lot of Rumor Mill over on MLB Trade Rumors that Sox have Joe Girardi in future sites for manager. Interesting.

Don't forget about that Lopez gem yesterday.. Been saying it since last spring training he will be our ace.

I don't understand why. With all these young arms, Girardi would have most of their arms falling off before not.

Lopez is very good. The fact they actually won a series this weekend isn't of much consequence. The best thing for them is that Lopez, Giolito, Anderson, Moncada continue to do well individually but the team keep losing games to keep pace with the Reds and Padres. And everyone else who is sucking to high heaven.

Rodon had a good rehab start in Kannapolis. 65 pitches, 42 strikes. He starts on Thursday for Charlotte.

Word is he will start 2x in Charlotte before coming up to the bigs.. See ya Dylan Covey, welcome back Carlos.

Sox also just signed Michael Saunders OF to AAA.. Have to imagine he is a bridge player until Avi is healthy and Eloy is up. It would be nice to have an actual defensive outfielder playing the position for a little bit.. Leury is garbage.

And last note on Lopez.. Who doesn't want an ace with this kind of attitude.. I love it

Leury isn't garbage. Adam Engel is garbage.

Saunders is a classic White Sox signing. They're going to manipulate his service time.

Fernando Tatis, Jr., SS, San Diego Padres (Double-A San Antonio): 3-4, 4 R, 2B, HR, RBI

I'm convinced that trading Tatis in the deal to get James Shields was Kenny Williams' last act before Jerry Reinsdorf put Rick Hahn fully in charge once and for all.

If you look at everything they've done since, it's been pretty spot on, at least on paper and in the moment.

Maybe.. I think they could have gotten more for Sale then what we did. I think Moncada is an absolute stud in the making. Kopech needs to work on secondary pitches and control. If he end game becomes a closer than not worth it.. Basabe will be solid.. The Eaton trade might turn out to be the one that has the most value, if not the Q deal. Eaton Trade got us Lopez, Giolito and Dunning. That is probalby 3 of our 5 future starters for a decent lead off hitter who has been hurt. That is a killer deal. Sale is a 1A top 5 pitcher, with a cheap contract with a lot of team control. I think sox could have gotten 1 more HIGH A+ prospect. Q trade is showing to be solid so far as well.

Nate Jones and Shields keep pitching better, keep increasing any trade value at all. I was at game last night and besides first Shields again looked good.. His movement pitches were unhitable. I have ragged on him forever but if he brings back any prospect at all, even a single A throw in guy, I will be happy with that.

Kopech has 40 IP so far with 53 K and 19 BB. He's hit six batters.

Any money they save getting rid of Shields is going to be worth it. A contender will need him. I think it has to be all deck chairs over the side again in the next two months. If someone calls calling for help, give it to them and keep this core of kids intact while continuing to develop the guys on the farm.

Again, an exciting team to watch in the coming years.

When is Rodon expected to rejoin the rotation? He's sitting on the DL on my fantasy team.

Pretty sure he has 1 or 2 more rehab starts.

He is having his first AAA rehab start tonight in Charlotte, and supposed to have one more. Assume hes up in 10 days. Assume Kopech is right behind him. If Covey can pitch like he did last night you would have to assume the rotation would be
Shields
Lopez
Giolito
Rodon
Covey/Kopech

If someone bites on Shields, which would be great come July, your rotation looks to be set with those remaining 5 above, with Fulmer pushing to get back in, and Dunning, Hansen, Cease etc working to be up in 19 and 20. Good problems to have.

Giolito got lit up today by a very bad Orioles team. He could be looking at headed to the pen or Charlotte soon to address his command issues.

Castillo's suspension is great for them as it relates to tanking.

He should be sent down.. His starting dates lining up nicely with Rodon for a swap out.. Bring kopech up in 2 weeks as well.. Im good with this scenario.

It's his second rehab start AND he got nailed in the head by a line drive.
Left game.
This kid is snakebitten.

Yes, as I said, his first AAA start. He also had 6ks in that 2 2/3 innings.. He was fine after he got hit but Gruz wasn't messing around with the franchise pitcher and pulled him. He will start down there again, and keep throwing that smoke bulldogg.

Thursday:

Zack Collins, C/DH, White Sox (Double-A Birmingham): 3-3, 3 BB, 2 R.

** had 46 K and 43 BB for the year at that point. Insane.

Dylan Cease, RHP, White Sox (High-A Winston-Salem): 7.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R/ER, 2 BB, 9 K.

** Was in the upper 90s most of the time and featured an 84 MPH change up. Filth.

This was Sunday:

Luis Gonzalez, OF, White Sox (Low-A, Kannapolis): 3-6, 5 R, 2B, 3B, HR, RBI, 2 BB, 3 K.

**That's quite a day at the plate.

Let's not forget Matt Skoles MLB debut. 2 for 3, with a Homer and a Walk. Kid had a smile ear to ear. Great to see it, have a day kid.

He obviously is not the future of this team. But seeing guys like, him, Tillson and Engel (finally hitting) is good for the future of the team. These guys are all getting auditions for 29 other MLB teams and each day they play well is good for the future of this team when we start bringing other guys up who, hopefully will be the starters and stars of the future. If not, you have guys that are finally competing hopefully adding depth to this organization.

Bullpen still blows, so does our defense.

Also, Kopech getting very close to getting call i would imagine.
5/28 - 6 IP, 3 Hits, 2 BB, 7ks, 2ER. 97 pitches thrown.

He is now up to 68ks in 51 1/3 IP, Opponents BA - .196, 3.86 ERA, 25BB

Rodon getting start tonight in Charlotte, have to imagine he rejoins Major League Sox this weekend, and that Kopech is probably called up in next month I bet.

The White Sox are 29th in MLB payroll, ahead of only Oakland.

28th is KC and they're ahead of the White Sox by $51M. They have a payroll that is 58% of the Royals.

Even with all their young talent on the farm, this is a team that needs to spend money come winter. Silly to say this on May 31st, but wow.

They're really going for broke on the Tank Train.

I was lucky enough to watch a few innings at the gym during lunch yesterday. Timmy had a great at bat and fouled off what seemed like 15 pitches off Kluber. He ultimately struck out, but it was a great at bat in the second inning to get Kluber's pitch count up, at least I thought. Kluber with 90 pitches through 6 innings, 10k 0bb. Ouch, this team is bad.

Dane Dunning was dealing yesterday.. Birmingham, WS, and Kannapolis are loaded. But like you say we need major league talent. Starts with some bullpen arms, maybe a decent veteran starter, and an actual MLB outfielder for a change.

Dunning might beat Kopech to the Majors when all is said and done.

The White Sox are not a patient team under this regime at the plate. I've read interviews with the hitting coach where he uses words like "attack" and "aggressive." That's 1980s talk.

Working counts, getting pitch counts up, digging into bullpens early in series is what you want to hear. When your hitting coach sounds like a defensive coordinator, you hired the wrong person.
