Chat function

Folks,

After some lobbying from phork and after getting in touch with the site owner who was awesome in getting things going, we now have a chat function that seems to work pretty well. I'm looking for some suggestions as to when and how you guys would want to use it.

Open for football games and (maybe) basketball games. If it's too hard to monitor, it might just be worth it to put a waiver with an agree/deny choice before the user is taken to the chat page. That way no one will be upset if things get rowdy and the mods don't have to watch it like a hawk.

BTW glad you guys are doing this, I think it will clean up the board on gamedays and we all appreciate the work.

I think it would be cool for ND gameday, other games, events, or whenever a mod is around and just wants to open it up?

Can you set post count limits for access? Trolls might be an issue.

sounds like just what we need for gameday, hahah we can let all the siht out then just flush it away also, i mite recomend having an open chat on National Signing Day

I don't like this. I actually like getting messages about how to make my johnson longer, why I should buy gold, and how to hook up with nearby ladies. Those messages make me feel special...on the inside.

The front page is still be worked on. The one under the forum tab should be functioning.

Alright, first thing I notice is that there are no time stamps. So that would be the first thing I'd ask for.

Alright folks, I'm going to turn the function off until we can get some rules and a few other things sorted out. The live chat function may be periodically on tomorrow and will be at the latest on for the duration of the Stanford game. Let me know if you guys have any further concerns or suggestions.

Since I'm hoping to limit the chat function to game day type events, I didn't think time stamps were necessary. If I expand the use of the chat function, though, I can and will put them on.

I do like that aspect of the chat function. However, I don't want to draw away from the content and discussion that this site provides for those who cannot be present for the conversations that go on in the chat box. Until we get a good idea of what should stay on the forums and what can go on in the chat box, I'm going to limit the chat function to game days and things like that.

I don't think time stamping is a necessary feature, I mean chat goes in order of entry.. If you are concerned if someone is there or not, just post the time yourself..

I'm limited to limiting posters by post number. In any case, by limiting who can use the chat function, I'm intending not to weed out posters who don't have popular opinions, I think that's a poor reason to leave someone out, rather, we're just trying to weed out trolls which are typically easy to spot by post no. 25.

Hey folks,

I could not stay for much of the game. (First time back on campus since leaving for UPenn and this place was still rocking even during the Thanksgiving break.) I'm not going to read through all of the chat logs, but I would like to hear what you guys thought. What could be different?
