Case for being ranked

Well, not to be contrarion, but I just don't get this obsession with whether or not we are ranked. As we've seen, the gap between the first few ranked teams and the bottom few can be measured in light years, so while I suppose it would be some vindication for the notion that BK is making progress, it strikes me as totally inconsequential. If the day ever comes that we're back in the hunt for a NC, then we ought to pay attention. For now, just enjoy the season, enjoy the preponderance of home games, and chill....well, that's my 2 cents worth!

College football doesn't have a playoff system so rankings are all that really matter. In the grand scheme of things, it may not matter that much if we're ranked going into the USC game, but I do believe that the sooner you're ranked the faster you can move up in the rankings.

True, especially because of the Bama game. Saban has too much respect and class to run up the score against JoePa, which they easily could have. Temple is the best team they have played, sans Bama, and they basically gave PSU the game down the stretch. Iowa is decent, but not a real solid team. IU, Purdont, Eastern Mich., and Ind. St. all kind of speak for themselves.

I see them losing the rest of their games honestly. @ NW, vs. Illi, vs. Neb., @ pOSU, @ Wisky

Could pull out wins @ NW and vs. Illi, but I wouldn't put money on it.

Unreal that Texas A&M is #18 with 2 losses but we are unranked. And Georgia getting more votes than us despite almost losing to Vandy this week.

Whens the AP come out, they usually show us some love. CBS's poll, not the coaches, I guess just there poll with their editors..etc has us ranked 16th. What are these coaches not seeing, maybe just waiting to see if we are for real against SC? We deserved to be ranked, and not just because we are ND. I feel like if Temple played our schedule, and had our record, they'd be ranked. It's like the pollsters are skiddish, and in "wait and see mode" lol

Yeah and Texas A&M has given up something like 3 record breaking performances to opposing QBs. Their defense is really awful and they haven't been impressive (as a team) in any game they have played this year.

The AP tried their best to get both ND and USC ranked!

Anyway, not a big deal. In fact, a win over USC would propel us into the teens IMO. I don't want to start another ridiculous discussion about "Others Receiving Votes" being the same as a ranking, but we received the 27th most votes in the Coaches Poll and the 27th most votes in the AP Poll. Not bad after an 0-2 start.

It's also nice to see that 5 of our 12 opponents are either ranked or receiving votes.

Texas A&M's losses are to the #6 and #10 team in the country by a combined four points. Ours are to the 18th and an unranked by a combined seven.

We looked great against MSU, while they beat up on SMU and Baylor.

If the Irish beat the Trojans big they will get a big bump due to the magnitude of the game and jump to ~21. If they just moved up two spots a week (assuming victories, of course) they end up right outside the top 10 going out to Palo Alto. I guess you could say they are on pace and doing fine.

bye - 27
USC - 21
Navy - 19
Wake Forest - 17
Maryland - 15
Boston College - 13
Stanford - ??

The fact that we fist humped MSU, who beat Michigan, who we lost to on a last second (literally) miracle, and we aren't ranked. That USF loss is killing us.
