On the weekend of September 16th, I will be headed to South Bend for two reasons:

1. To take a tour of the University (psh, like I need one) and especially to tour the architecture school, which I'm very interested in.
2. To attend the Michigan State game the next day

Plus, I get an excused absence from my high school that Friday because it counts as a college visit. Suckers!

I know no one cares. I just wanted to share this with somebody. I probably won't be able to sleep from now until then. :wbanana:

12 MORE DAYS! BEAT USF!

Have fun. There's nothing like it. Make sure to swing by the dorms and see all the signs and concession booths they have in front, that's the best way to get the full ND experience on a game weekend.

Also, if you wanna be an Arkie, get ready to work harder than you can imagine, but it'll be worth it in the end.

I have a lot of friends who are in the architecture school. It's an insane amount of work, but it will definitely get you prepared for the real world

Do you mean Architorture? :smilewink Had a couple of friends at Tulane in the architorture program. That stuff is no joke. But it's a good career for sure. Have a good time at ND.

My son is only in 5th grade and already has his sights set on ND's architecture school. Hope he keeps up with the grades, I sure can't afford it! I would be absolutley excited if he got to go, though!!

Congrats, sounds like a good time. FYI while you are there I have a buddy by the name of Mike Lee who will be fighting in the first ever professional boxing match hosted at the university. If you're into the sweet science check it out.

He's was undefeated through his amateur career; won Notre Dame's Bengal Bouts 3x and won the Chicago Golden Gloves. Mike hasn't lost as a light-heavyweight in his short pro career.

Sidenote: I graduated in '09, let me know if you have any questions and I will try to help the best I can.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I've heard a lot about architecture schools in general, and how demanding it is. I think I'd be up for it..

I'll have a lot more questions as the year goes on, though. So prepare yourselves

Thanks for the advice, guys. I've heard a lot about architecture schools in general, and how demanding it is.

We had a kid here at Ohio State who spent so many nights in Knowlton Hall (as they all do) pulling all-nighters that he decided to sublease his apartment. He put all of his clothes in his SUV and parked it outside, he slept on the couches and makeshift beds upstairs, showered at the rec center that is 1/4 miles away and simply ate in the dining halls. That is some ridiculous dedication.

That fact that Eddie George was able to play football at a Heisman-winning level and earn a Landscape Architecture degree is unbelievable to me.

Architecture is pretty great though, if you are excellent at it. Notre Dame's program, with the time in Rome, was always appealing to me coming out of high school.

My only complain about it is that if you aren't an outstanding architect you can literally spend an entire career being a peon in a firm. In some ways it's a lot like being a lawyer, where a few lawyers are actually doing the trial case and the rest are checking paperwork; a lot of the time in architecture the partners do the fun planning and everyone else spends their days checking angle measurements of elevators or something equally mundane.

I went into Urban planning (mostly for the political aspect and I want to be in government)...but why limit yourself to planning a building when you can plan the whole city? ;)

Random facts about Bond Hall I remember from being a tour guide:

- Formerly the main University Library (replaced by Hesburgh)
- Called "The Fish Bowl" by those in the program (lots of windows at eye level and they live there)
- Awesome coffee shop inside
- Two basement levels
- Of course, where the marching band starts on game day
- Supposedly designed by a student
- You get a guaranteed two semesters of study abroad in Rome if you study architecture (essentially, you are forced to take a fifth year and your 3rd year is spent abroad)
- Rashon McNeil (former DB while I was there) wanted to be an architecture student and was told by Weis he couldn't be after the first semester because it was too intense (there were kids in premed/engineering that didn't get asked to change their majors), so he chose graphic design instead (not a bad program at all, had a good friend in it)

Have fun man, campus is great.
