I don't care about this if they make the same effort showing the timing issue on the last play. The argument they would make is "we're helping get the calls right," which, fine. But that goes both ways and the timing issue shouldn't only be noticed an hour later if he and the rest of the production crew are as good at their jobs as he's trying to claim.
They were probably too busy celebrating and high fiving each other in the production truck.

Carr's fumble was 100% a fumble but it annoys me that BYU wasn't called for a penalty for the shenanigans before the snap and it annoys me even more that BYU jumped on it after the ref blew the play dead. There was no reason for anyone on our team to think it had been anything other than a spike at that point, so why would they even consider jumping on it?

There's got to be a balance between blowing plays dead too soon and waiting too long to blow them dead. But, regardless if a play is blown dead that's gotta be the end of it.

There's a whole litany of reasons why we lost, most involving our own mistakes. But the officiating in that scenario plus at the end of the game was just terrible.

Between laying on players and delaying the flow and then a player admitting to yelling hutt, BYU seemed to be intentional about getting under NDs skin and it worked and the refs seemed to let it go. There was also a goal line TD where a BYU Olineman was literally picking up an ND player from behind and almost slamming him to the ground. They got away with a lot of gray area stuff. ND should be mentally tougher but still, they got away with things.

Yeah on the BYU players diving all over the place before the spike - Freeman should have been on the field screaming his balls off for a flag. Maybe he was but if so they didn't show it or mention it. That was egregious and a mockery of the game. Refs have to flag that.

100%

I did see a clip online of MF giving the refs an earful at some point, but it was without the context of when it was in the game.

At the end of the day, ND should’ve never been in the position where pass interference miss penalties or one second on the clock makes a difference. WAAAY difference in talent level. The loss makes me sick but even more sick was the whole game ND was scrambling like a little girl playing catch-up to the grown-ups in desperation of trying to be equal.

This isn’t a remotely close comparison in NIL Money or player rating. There’s not a player on BYU that would’ve been recruited by ND yet their coach prepared them so much better than MF did.

At the end of the day, ND crapped the bed and hopefully will grow some kind of balls for the rest of the season. Otherwise, Miami is gonna roll and we’re gonna have another year of would’ve could’ves when we left out of the playoffs.

And who knows, maybe we will see these guys again in the playoffs Or worst case, next year. Hopefully the coaching staff will remotely earn their inflated checks and have vastly superior athletes perform against Significantly lower level talent the second time around.

ND is on mid term break. Every ND related person I spoke with last week was flooded with exams or papers or both… any mention of this being an issue with players and practice last week?

I actually picked us to lose this game preseason and beat Miami - going undefeated is very difficult, Saban only did it twice in his 22 combined years at Bama and LSU. The manner in which we lost was just absolutely gross, i expected a loss to include 3 TOs, not a defense that couldnt get a stop.

Irish fan for 30+ years..had faith in this team especially since freeman won big games in 24. The way we played against byu with all the clue chip guys is inexcusable. I fully expect to lose against miami, which is the total opposite of what I thought pre byu. Feel like kelly 2.0

Yeah the perspective is necessary. IU recency bias of going undefeated probably not setting well within me, causing most of the anger. But I agree, it's super rare to go undefeated and that needs to be front of mind. With that said, we're now at a point with Ash where it's fool me once, shame on me....what's fool me thrice? The anxiety, stress, anger, etc can all circle back to "we keep seeing this happen, when will it change?"

One of those two years was Covid 2020.

SEVEN seasons with 2 losses at Alabama.

This really puts things into perspective considering he just had a 6 part documentary series on ESPN drop earlier this month proclaiming him the best college football coach ever. Three of his six titles were BCS Era.

I understand leaving off Toledo, but MSU seems worth noting, especially considering Saban squandered significant talent there and timing there mirrors Freeman's first stint. That would leave Saban undefeated in 1 of 26 non-COVID seasons as a P4 HC, with a winning % of 79.8 compared to Freeman's 79.0.

Agreed 100%. On paper to outsiders who won’t/can’t watch every game, it could simply look like ND lost a nail biter on the road in a raucous environment to a #8 team. That is, if ND beats Miami & TCB vs remaining opponents

If you assume a team's odds of winning any single game are 90%, the odds of going undefeated over 12 games is less than one in three.

Going undefeated requires a dominant squad and a lot of luck. In the NIL era, establishing that level of dominance is going to be harder than ever so it's going to require even more luck.

The worst thing about this loss was that it validated everything the haters have said since week one of last year.

Seasons not over yet. Gotta beat Miami now.

I thought a few times Carr missed on the backside dig that he hit at will against Wisconsin. I think the length of Satuala (6’4) and Glasker (6’5) made a difference on some tight windows CJ is used to squeezing through.

I've never really cared for this board's obsession with trying to retcon Saban as this average coach, but I'm less in the mood for it after Saturday. I saw the difference coaching makes even when you have overwhelming talent.

Seems like you're getting a real hard-on for mischaracterization and putting words in people's mouths. What does that do for you?

Yep. Going in to the season I figured 11-1, with a loss to either BYU or Miami. Kinda figured BYU might be the tougher game.

The trouble is, after watching our defense the first six weeks, going into this past weekend I figured BYU would only score 10-14 points. And Miami has a much better offense than they do.

Matt Freeman this morning. Don’t be surprised if KVA is out for Navy, and DJ McKinney will be out for a while.
