6.1% post game win expectancy and a -12.7 adjusted margin

We got our shit kicked in and were lucky to be in a position to win it at the end.

I hope everyone on the teams sees that and doesn't let the final score trick them into thinking we only need a few small changes.

Jonaz Walton getting 5 carries is up there with J. love getting hardly any carries against Miami. Coaching malpractice
The drive after the Sanders INT should have been Walton. The argument for any other RB playing over him is pass protection and that was a situation where we were going to run and BYU knew we were going to run. Put in your best RB and ice the game. Also hate that we pulled OL on that play which allowed the LB to knife in and blow it up. Would like to see some zone blocking there and let the RB go to work.

At least when we lost under BK it was because we were the weaker team and deserved to lose. I guess we deserved to lose last night but there were several controversial officiating moments that if called correctly likely lead to ND winning.

Glass 1/2 full post, they have to watch this film and fucking learn a few things, make changes/adjustments and finish the season 11-1. Make a long run in the playoffs. Then, the only thing this game means is a lot of social media/meme BS fodder!!
Finish strong, get in the playoffs and make a run.
Just my makeup… be pissed, find solutions and move on with a positive attitude/plan.

This. It’s why I’m stating something is clearly broken in the program with how poorly both sides prepare and game plan for big games. Carr killed our efficiency despite the poor game plan.

If freeman and staff can’t see it and figure it out during the bye then an overhaul is needed by someone externally. Keep freeman, but assess everyone else.

The team from top to bottom was not prepared for last night and that’s scary.

A few random thoughts from the Hyatt House in Provo.
1. I told my buddies from the day-1 in the Wisconsin game, something seems "off" with this team. They just don't have that fire. Players may have the "C" Captain logo, but we don't have a captain. We don't have leadership. They looked off. They did against Wisconsin, Michigan State, UNC...something just doesn't seem there. They just don't look great. Sloppy, going through the motions.
2. When BYU got the ball back with 5 or so minutes, I just knew they would score. We made defensive adjustments at halftime that helped, but Ash's defenses always fold like a cheap suit when the game is on the line. Just like when Texas A&M marched 80 yards in 2 minutes, the defense crumbles. They never rise to the occasion. They never get the stop.
3. Ash's defense is garbage. I do not understand why some fans think this guy, who constantly looks like he sharted his pants, isa good coordinator. Notre Dame generally just out talents the opponents. He's played 3 teams with a pulse. He's 0-3. This off zone, passive approach just allowed them to move the ball at will.
4. Denbrock has no "feel" for the game and game flow. He never calls plays establishing a rhythm. It's always clunky, predictable play calling. When something is working, Jonaz Walton for example, he never gets the ball again. And if a play doesn't work, he'll try it again a thousand times. What's the definition of insanity?
5. Carr, Moore, Shuler had their worst games.
6. Knapp whiffed on ... oh, I dont know, 5 pass blocks against Uluave?
7. KVA was largely nonexistent.
8. Spare me from the 16-win streak shit. It isn't impressive against Purdue, Navy, Seabees, and Merchant Marine Academy...with this group/staff, we're, to date, 0-3 in our "bigger games". The "Notre Dame is a fraud" or "Notre Dame loses its big games" moniker is true until proven differently.
9. MF did not have this team ready to go, again...he failed. Giving up 21 in the first half to that quality of a team and QB is a joke. He looked like Danny Wuerffel out there.
10. Let's shelf the "welp, gotta regroup and show up against Miami talk." At this point, can we definitely say we'll beat SMU?
11. I'm tired of the "Leave No Doubt", "Revenge Tour" b.s. Spare me. At halftime, as I'm munching on ice cream and a 4ft long donut Cougar tail, I'm just dying for a beer and none it to be found, I thought "what am I doing with my life ... why do I continually put myself through this shit? Same old, same old...."

Oh well, the Always Irish postgame call in podcast should entertain me on the flight back.

I honestly thought we would run the Florida State play where we pick the guy and get an easy score
Yeah, you know the thing about fades is they work great when the defense hasn’t really seen it - you pull it out as a change up. We’d literally been throwing it all night, there was no change up there, almost zero chance it was going to work. Terrible play calling. The pick you are mentioning would have absolutely been there.

This is so painful. I'm sure we all want answers but assume there will be none. Freeman might be flipping out on his assistants demanding change or he might just think everything is acceptable. The next 3 weeks before the Miami game are gonna suck

I am good with the James carries because he was doing great up the middle. They tried getting Jonas outside and it wasn’t there. His 3 touches up the middle were great 8 yards, 2 yard TD run and then 2 point conversion.

The player usage as you stated with Love is stupid. We should have 2 running backs. Walton and James. That’s it.

He is equally at fault. This team came like they were play NIU and got the same result. Embarrassed

I slept on it...even more pissed.

HC- still down with MFMF but he needs to make wholesale changes and not let Tressel pick the guy

Coaches can stay:
RB, DL, LB

Coaches who need a different job:

- Denbrock does not scheme well, his play calling is shit. Also TE U?...why we suck at that position the last few years

-Rudolph..OL U? I've been calling for change since the beginning of the year. We waste so much time in fall camp with different combos that it takes 5 games to get any unit cohesion. Also, end of the game, BYU has 3 on the line and then blitz the LB and Knaap just let's him in like nothing

-Guidugli, been asking for a change for a couple of years. No QB development in any year. Also... you're "elite" QB doesn't know how to spike the ball?

-Brown, we have zero go get it WRs, why? How do we have all these recruits and they are this unprepared to play at this level.

-Ash...last night I wasn't sure if was I down on him. After hearing yet again that another team ran something "that wasn't on tape"... we are not prepared well. And he cannot make on field adjustments. Why do we suck so much at zone?

-Henry, not sure yet. I'm not sure Leonard is on him. LM either came back too early from his concussion or he's getting exposed a bit. Schuler last couple of games, he has to be hurt. He's not played like himself. I think the rest of the DBs are playing well.

-Mike Martin, complete whiff on WR in the portal. No more paying for upside. Production or no. MF job is to get potential through recruiting. Portal money should only be spent on those who produced.

MFMF needs to have a heart to heart with some of his players. How did he allow his team to lose their edge. Sometimes you lose because of a call here or there or missed play here or there...but for an opponent to out heart you, inexcusable. Disgusting really. He has gone soft on that team. People either start "diving for loose balls" or next man in.

Also, what is this concussion bs? Sadly, I've had concussions in high school games. However unfortunate as they are, I dont think I was all of a sudden unable to do basic shit 2 weeks later. Maybe I'm showing my ignorance, but I find it hard to believe a concussion is why Moore looked like he did.

Church this morning reframed things a bit for me. The Lord has a way of humbling you when you need it. My language *early this morning* was harsh and wasn’t the way I want to represent myself. The content of the posts I absolutely still back 100%…just with a couple dozen fewer F bombs.

The moment Traore took his dumbass targeting put the entire team behind the 8 ball right from the start
Agreed but I thought ND had enough depth ro compensate. All we heard was how deep and dominating the DL is going to be this year. Not just from ND media, but national media. I remember ND beat talking about BYUs true freshman RT being an area that could be exposed. That’s who Traore beat off the edge in his final play. Looked like they went with Logan Thomas next and the times I focued on him, that freshman RT just swallowed him up. Maybe that’s when they went to Keeley?

Shuler is either hurt, or I had forgotten his father passed. Performance has dropped for some reason.

But I don’t see an Aaron Henry issue, at all. Throwing Henry under the bus after nobody would speak an ill word of Mickens after last year first two weeks is kinda rich if anyone has done that since last night

I tend to agree. I’ve never seen him tackle so poorly leading me to wonder if he has a shoulder issue.

Most of the time you’re right, but I’ve had players get concussed on what seems like the most innocent play and they’re not the same for months. I had one kid in basketball smack his head into a wall and he ended up with Post Concussion Syndrome and he literally had to go on Homebound in school because the lights and screens made him physically ill. He’s still not able to play sports.

The brain and its response to trauma is incredibly complex and differs with each individual and each individual experience.

I think if we rest Moore again last night, we probably end up winning. He was that off.

I know we played like crap and didn’t deserve to win, but this thread is not talking enough about what a debacle that last play was from an officiating perspective.

The whole point of building a roster of NDs caliber is so you can have the chance to win games even with a subpar performance, and that was taken from us. Unfortunate.

Agreed. He’s regressed a ton.

I know he was calling for help on that 3rd & 5 so I can’t say it was all on him but WTH?! ND holds there & BYU punts. Instead ND gives WR a 6-yd cushion when only 5 were needed.

Effort wasn’t there filling outside runs to the boundary from Moore. They had basically zero run game with the RBs besides that action. One got called back for a hold even.

As much as I hated BYU scoring 1st on their opening drive, I chalked it up to their OC having a good scripted opening drive w/ some plays going against the tendencies they’d shown in previous games & maybe that was their best shot before regressing to the mean. Did yall feel like ND was gonna control the LOS and just gash BYU after that 1st drive? Of course the missed TD was one of many errant throws Carr would have that night, but they got 3 & I thought Denbrock would get to cooking w/ James/Walton

I’m just so sick of this program embarrassing me every single time I ever get up the courage to have a modicum of excitement or expectations. We were never as good as the other top teams so us fans were partially to blame for having unrealistic expectations in years like 2012. Physically we didn’t belong with that Alabama team. Now? We’re one of the most talented teams in the country and we still shit ourselves in every big game. It’s fucking infuriating.

Correct, this is why I don't really care about the refs. We played like absolute ass for most of the game and got lucky with stupid fake punt, muffed punt, etc. to even be in that situation.
