If he voted anyone ahead of ND, it should have been KSU. At least based on current resumes.

I really like DP, when it comes to an interview, he's one of the best in the biz. BK did a great job!

I don't think BK would like the back-lash of publicly admitting he didn't vote Bama as #1. It's the cool thing to do right now.

You can't vote anyone but Bama as #1. They are the defending national champs until proven otherwise.

So if 'Bama played nothing but FCS schools this season, they'd still deserve to waltz into the title game?

Bama would beat KSU by 50 if they played this weekend, and if you believe that you have to vote Bama #1, regardless of how you view their resumes. Although I'm not sure what you're seeing on KSU's resume that is so impressive. They beat one good team, a couple decent teams a handful of lousy teams, same as us and same as Bama. Of the four teams, Bama probably has the best win (I'd pick LSU to beat OU on a neutral field, I think); Oregon's resume is pathetic; and between us and KSU I think our resume is better (probably not objective, but still). Sagarin agrees that our schedule has been better, but we're ranked behind KSU mainly because of Pure Points which he seems to love but I don't think should be important.

I wonder when BK will start politicking? Maybe after the USC game, assuming we lock up an undefeated season.

Maybe, maybe not.

I remember seeing him interviewed after his last game during the undefeated season at UC, and he was just like, "Well, we won 'em all, so ... " He really didn't have a lot to say about it at all. He was just glad his team was winning. I kind of expect a similar attitude this season if we win out.

Like he always says, he didn't come to Notre Dame to have one good year. This isn't a stepping-stone job for him. He wants to build a powerhouse program that will be consistent game in and game out, year in and year out. So all he's focusing on is coaching his guys to do the little things right consistently so that we win consistently, and if he does that, he'll get into the NC game sooner rather than later. I expect that's his attitude, but we'll see.

But they don't play FCS teams, they play in the SEC. Arguably the best conference in the game for 7 years running. Regardless, they are on a 13 game undefeated streak and are National Champions. I have ZERO qualms with Bama being #1. The rest is up for debate for sure, but there is no debating #1 unless they lose.

The simple fact that KSU and Oregon made it into the top4 before us is really the only reason why we are #4. They are not going to punish teams that keep on winning, thats not how the human polls work.

If you could get that blind poll out into the main stream, Harris voters and Coaches voters, some minds might change. Status quo though is that the top4 haven't lost, they won't be punished and ND had to go 3 OTs to beat a team that lost to Youngstown St. That is the perception we have right now. We are fighting a "WOW Oregon popped 700 yards on USC" as opposed to "Hmmm Oregon got popped for 600 yards themselves". Oregon has the flash and the brand, we are relatively new to the Top5 BCS territory. KSU on the other hand, has cut its teeth on teams that really weren't that good to begin with. Including West Virginia etc.

The ultimate comparison when it comes down to it will be common opponents. We have 2 with Oregon (Stanford and USC) and 2 with KSU (Oklahoma and Miami). We needed OT to beat a middling Stanford team, have to see what Oregon can do. Similarly they squeaked by a middling USC team. If we shut out USC or beat them bad and hold them to under 300 yards then you might have an argument. As the last game of the season, and perhaps Kiffins career there, they are going to be throwing balls everywhere. I have no doubt we'll get to Barkley eventually, but we have to contain the damage that Lee and Wood are going to inevitably cause.
Our best argument lies vs KSU. We have 2 opponents that we both have played. We looked more impressive than they did, and its not even close.

I would have no problem facing any of the top5 teams and saying that arguably we would be in each and every game.

Yes.

According the lemmings that are sportswriters, anyway.

How many FCS schools do they need to play in order for sportswriters to take notice of the number of absolutely TERRIBLE teams that Bama schedules every year? Hell, look at the Top 4 teams and find me another team that does not have an FCS team on their schedule.

And yet, the Irish struggles against a Pitt team that might be bad, but at least it is not an FCS school.

Also I don't think that the fact that ND's schedule is ALL rivalry games gets enough focus. Every fan and sportswriter say that playing rivalry games is a big deal, that you throw records out the window, etc....unless you are ND, of course.

ND has played a schedule against teams that all consider ND a rival, even OU. After 8 weeks of rivalry games, you would think that ND would be bound for a letdown. They had it against one of their most bitter rivals of the last ten years and now have to face the one team that has dashed their last two title chances this week.

Bama does not have the same kind of schedule, whether in a conference or not, especially not this year.

Just look at the buildup in November when teams like Bama will play Auburn, and we will be told to throw the records out of the window, or UF vs. FSU, or Oregon vs. OSU. All of those game will be much more hyped because those at the BIG rivals of those teams. The one game that those teams play where they will play their toughest games, according to the pundits.

Of course, ND vs. USC is going to be a rivalry game, but it won't matter unless USC wins out the rest of the way leading up to that game, including a W against UCLA, who is playing inspired football this year.

ND may not have the toughest schedule down the stretch, but they certainly deserve to have one off week in the schedule (but not really according to the media), whereas teams like UO, Bama or KSU get MULTIPLE off weeks against FCS teams or awful conference competition (and the media overlooks it completely).

The anti-ND bias has reached absolutely insane levels to this point, and it will only get stronger as ND wins the rest of the their games. And it will be even more pronounced should they lost ANY of their games.

SMH.
