Let's all try to be mature and level headed as possible the rest of this weekend please. Yes, I know you are all mad as well as I am, but just because we're mad that doesn't mean we can say anything we want. Keep the bashing to a minimum that's backed up with legit reasons, and some of you really need to tone down your language.

One more thing, we don't need a ton of threads about the same gripes, let's keep the board clean.

GG and board I apologize for a word I used at the end of the gameday thread. It's locked so i can't go back and edit it. please delete it for me.

also, we talk of our play hurting recruiting... recruits view these boards... keep THAT in mind

I appreciate your point about the recruits, but I'm tired of trying to be positive when things are this frustrating. I;m not wanting to berate the team, I don't think this loss is on them, though they made some mistakes.

Losing might be the best thing for recruiting. Easy sell. "See how bad we are? You can start tomorrow."

It's not so much that you have to be positive. Just debate/talk/complain with a level head and class. I know for a fact that ND has lost a big time running back in the past because of a bunch of fans in a chatroom/message board after a loss while Ty was still at ND.

Plus it also generally ruins the board. Most fans don't want to log on wade through a bunch of ______ sucks comments, or even worse with some of the language people use. I won't my nephew spend too much time on here or post because of some of content that comes across message boards in general.

I don't think that works nealy as much as some people think. Most kids will pick a winning program anyway because they think they are so good that they can go anywhere and see PT. See LSU and UF's DL, and USC's RB.

If there are any kids that can BLOCK and TACKLE I think they would be able to see a lot of playing time at ND!

Right. I don't want to see any negative bashing about cats, the Bengals, UC, Cincinnati chili, or, most importantly.......me. :)

It was a day of crappiness. UC didn't even score in the second half, and really didn't do much in the second quarter. They got lucky.

No, he would have a line through his name. That's a joke that he put up there (or someone who 'bought' it for him).

this comment is not meant to be malicious at all, but are you sure that recruits visit these boards? from things that i've read, athletes from the pros all the way to high school say that they ignore the media and online stuff because a lot of the stuff is writted by misinformed people. This is not in any way meant to say this board sucks, because it is in fact awesome, but what leads you to believe that recruits read what we have to say about them?

I know before my time here they've had current players and prospective athletes as well as their parents check these boards. And, this season, I've dealt myself with a few athletes and their families who do follow what the fans have to say and while it isn't the primary reason they do or do not choose a school, it certaintly doesn't help when we choose to act out one way over another.

Emeka Nwankwo posted several times under the moniker "DaKid" so yeah, they definitely come through from time to time, and more read than make posts. If people were writing about you wouldn't you come to see what was being said? It'd be hard to NOT do that. I'm sure the vast majority of stuff they don't read, but you never know, it's better safe than sorry. Besides, it's just nicer.

Like kjones said Emeka Nwankwo has an account here and had posted in the past, so does Jonas Gray and his uncle, although, Jonas has never posted, Taylor Dever's dad has one too and he's posted a few times, I'm pretty sure Dayne Crist's mom has one, and there's a coach of a current recruit that checks in regulary. Those are just some of the more current list that I know about. I know the original owner knew of a lot more. If that wasn't enough I've heard MF mention on Power Hour that most of the plyers on the team, recruits that have been offered, or their parents get subscribtions to his site and/or other boards and sites. I know RJ Blanton's step-dad is a regular on II's premium board and last year I saw Darin Walls dad get into it with a few posters that were bashing Darin when he was going through some of his freshman stuggles. Plus if that wasn't enough the worst case I've heard of was ND missing out on a big time RB because of a bunch of fans in the members chat area on Scout's ND site. He (the RB) was very interested in ND so he logged on to chat during and after one of the games during the end of the Davie era. Well this game was a loss so you can guess how many of the posters were acting. Anyway this guy liked the stff and had genuine interest in comming so he put his thoughts out there and defended the staff, but instead of having a rational dicussion they started to flame him. Eventually he go mad enough that he told them that he was Lydell Ross and ND had just lost him because because of what went on in there. He said he didn't want to be part of a program where everyone was filled with such negativity and where the fans hated their players and coaches so much. FYI, he ended up going to Ohio State.

I can't speak for college football recruits but I do know that when my son was being recruited for soccer, we checked out the forums of the three main schools that he was looking at. His cousin who was recruited by Big Ten schools for basketball did the same thing.
Its a good way to get a "feel" of the school, what the fans think about the team, coach, keep up on the latest news, who else has joined the committ list etc. Absolutely you read them with a grain of salt, but seeing specific players getting trashed on one forum made an impression and along with a couple of other things, got that school checked off the list.

These are 16 and 17 year old kids that are attached to their computers. Of course they read the forums. You can bet their parents read them too. After a loss, it is obvious there will be criticism but its when it crosses the line that it can make an impact on recruits AND their parents. Who wants to send their kid into a lion's den? You can bet there are some MOTHERS reading these boards. Its not just locker room or bar stool talk anymore.

I am on an Alabama board also. THAT forum was insane last night after they lost. Attacking the quarterback in thread after thread, threatening posts toward LSU fans, fire the offensive coach etc. Ridiculous because they almost beat the #3 team in the nation and THAT is not what you want your recruits reading.

Quite frankly, I would be surprised if recruits and their parents DIDN'T read the forums of the schools especially if they have given a verbal. When its your kid and that big of a decision, you look for any information outlet you can find. Imagining your kid in front of tens of thousands of rabid fans versus in front of fans that show respect is part of the decision making process. No one expects kid gloves and if you are playing in the big time you have to take the criticism. Its when its constant or unsubtantiated or just ugly that it can hurt the program.

Yeah, but I don't really think there's been a whole lot of criticism of this year's team on here that's been unsubstantiated. There is absolutely nothing wrong with honest criticism (no matter how much it may hurt) when it is soundly based.

Some of us on here need to realize that the criticism is of the FOOTBALL TEAM; it is not an indictment of the University or what it stands for. Notre Dame is about much more than football, so we shouldn't take every criticism of the FOOTBALL(a child's game) TEAM as an attack on the University.

That is all I am saying. This board is great. No one thinks that after a loss or a horrendous season there won't be some frustration shown towards players or coaches and discussion will always include some critiques. I really haven't seen anything here that comes even close to the lunacy on that Alabama board with its personal and ugly attacks.

But remembering that recruits and their parents do read the forums is a good idea.

Yes it is, and there is also nothing wrong with criticism (no matter how gut-wrenching it may be) as long as it has a solid foundation. To avoid or suppress such valid criticism purely in the interest of getting these young men to come to Notre Dame to play a game seems to me a bit deceitful and every bit against everything we stand for.

Go read an Alabama forum and you will see the difference. Someone asked if the recruits really read the forums and I am telling you they do. I did not say to lie or shoot flowers up butts, just that keeping it civil is very important. Not just to keep recruits but to keep the integrity that should be part of being an ND fan.

I agree 150%.....and I read some SEC boards and is very "enlightening," to say the least.

I've seen plenty of it, as well as a few personal attacks, but we try to remove them as quickly as we can.
