Personally, I'd be fine with keeping Michigan every year and playing Purdue and MSU every other year (substituting each one for the other). I don't know how receptive they'd be to that though. I also wonder if this will persuade Big Ten schools to try and not schedule ND.

for what it's worth here's what Dave Brandon had to say on it when it was first tossed around:

As Brandon told the News: "I have to have seven home games a year. If you think about a nine-game Big Ten schedule, there will be one year I have four home games and one year I have five. In the year that I have four, I have to play every one of my non-conference games at home, so I can't be in a world where I have four Big Ten home games and I'm supposed to play Notre Dame (in South Bend). I can't live in that world. Those are the kinds of issues I have to deal with."

So long as ND is home on our B1G road years our game should be safe. But what sucks is we wont be doing any other home and homes with anyone else.

Alternating between having 8 and 9 b10 games everyother year is pointless in my eyes... Why mess with it? The have an even 12 teams now. 8 games a peice should be plenty of interaction between conference teams... This is just another reason why its awesom e to have the freedom to schedule whoever you want.

So every year there will be 6 b10 teams that will play a 4th out of conference game which will most likely be against a cup cake. All this is going to do is cause a bunch of whining by the teams that play a 9th b10 game.

Dont see the benefit of this at all.

First horrible division names, and now a horrible schedule format. Great job Big Integer...

I'd hate to lose MSU. I have more hate for them then scUM.

It's my understanding that they will all play 9 conference games beginning in 2017 (the rotating is based on 4 vs. 5 home games), leaving them all with 3 non-conference games each season.

Only 3 non-conference games each year makes it harder for them to play ND. Not that mixing up the Big 10 teams (besides M) or not playing 3-4 Big 10 every year is a bad thing, IHO.

Oh my bad. I skimmed through the article. I thought the other 6 teams each year were only playing 8 b10 games while the other 6 play 9. What you said makes more sense now.

Either way I still dont see the benefit of them playing a 9th conference game.

Good. I don't want to play any Big Ten teams except maybe Purdue and Northwestern. And maybe Indiana would be cool.

Drop Michigan and MSU for TCU and USF. Get to play in recruiting hotbeds and not get screwed by refs. Will be a fun change.

Screwed by Refs??? C'mon...... My guess is if they do this.... they will play one good team and 2 pancakes in non conference.... Hopefully Notre Dame can hold on to their rivalies....

After reading this I never want to play Michigan again. I say drop them and let them burn. I could go either way on MSU.

Sounds like a lot of crap..... Two sides to every story... I don't see ND as begging Mich and calling them every year just to get a game... and Bo never gave a damn about NC, he wanted Big Ten titles so I don't by he was jealous of Holtz

Conference expansion is going to put a squeeze on the independents. I suspect that the big conferences aren't finished expanding and will go to 16 teams each eventually. There won't be any room for 1) a quality noncon game, they will want easy games, and 2) noncom games away from home.

If things start going the "super conference" route, then I think ND ultimately ends up in a conference as well. As does BYU and Texas (I know they're not an independent right now, but could very well be headed that way). If it comes to that, then I'm fine with ND being in a conference. I think it's the only way they can stay viable if there are say, 4 16-team conferences. And if there are these "super conferences," then it'll be exciting to see how the schedules play out!
