Congrats coach. Give us a little article about the game will ya?
A sum up of the game? Sure thing. haha
It was a gorgeous day today as the West View All Stars took on the Mitchell Mustangs. West View took the field for the first time this season after a bye week, and Mitchell hoped to build on their play from last week (win or loss, I'm not sure).
Both teams were undermanned. Mitchell plays with just upward of 20 players while West View plays with about 15.
With it being kids, the game gets pretty messy at times. Unaware of where to line up or how for that matter. (Thank God, I brought my white board with me to help in the huddle.)
West View kicked off to start the game and played a very tenacious D to force the Mustangs 4 and out. The All Stars struggled even more on their first drive as all the snaps were fumbled. The NT was constantly blowing up WV's very small center before he could get a good exchange.
After another good defensive stand the All Star's took the field with a shift on the line. Their RG and C swapped positions. A dramatic improvement came about. On a busted Fk HB Iso Boot play, the star QB for the All Stars made a play out of it thought and scored a touchdown.
Sucking and wheezing the All Stars went into the second half and a couple starters guys. Both would return later in the game.
The exhaustion was obvious as the Mustangs slowly pushed the ball down the field and scored to tie the game. The All Star QB was so exhausted from playing both side of the ball (excellently) that he left the field after getting sick right before the touchdown. He would return for the next offensive possession though.
With under 2 minutes left the All Stars were driving. A BIG pass play (and the team's first and only on the day) helped get them within the twenty. They would be stuffed in four downs though.
And then came sudden death. They rules are much like college but due to time restraints were altered. A coin toss would be made. Then winning team deciding whether to play D or offense from the 10 yard line. If the offense scored, they won. If the defense held, they won.
The All Stars won the toss and wanted their offense on the field.
The first play was a HB toss and it was stopped for a short gain.
After early success with the boot off the iso yet little HB Iso success, the All Star QB asked to run it. It sounded like a good plan to me at first, but I quickly changed my mind.
HB Iso Fk Boot.
From 8 yards out, the two teams lined up. The ball was snapped, and the play was set in motion. The middle opened up and the play worked like a thing of beauty! An 8 yard scamper by the highly elusive All Star HB, and it was victory.
Note: I made this pretty dramatic, eh?
