BCS Cup Half Full!!!

Just to give this thread some more momentum for gameday, here are some of the key games Saturday for our BCS chances:

#12 Pitt vs. ND: The more we win by, the more it helps our BCS chances

#5 Cincy over #25 WVU: Cincy winning was a good thing for us, as now there is just about no way that two Big East teams will end the year ranked ahead of us.

#4 TCU vs. #16 Utah: Similarly to the Cincy game, a TCU win here would be great for us so that both these teams don't finish the year ranked ahead of ND.

#9 USC vs. Stanford: A Stanford win would really be huge for us here. The higher they are ranked when we play them in two weeks, the better. Also, we could potentially end the year ranked ahead of a 9-3 USC.

#10 Iowa vs. #11 OSU: The most important thing about this game, is that the score is not close. Most likely with a 9-3 finish we would end the year ranked ahead of a 10-2 Iowa or 9-3 OSU, but to be on the safe side we should root for a blowout in this one.

Other potential upsets to root for are:

UNC over #14 Miami
UCF over #15 Houston
Cal over #17 Arizona
Texas Tech over #19 OK State
Michigan over #20 Wisconsin
Washington over #23 Oregon State

This team isn't a BCS-caliber team though. At least send us to a bowl that is winnable like the Gator Bowl. I don't want to play someone like TCU in the Fiesta Bowl.

Then we get a Miami/Va Tech team in the Gator and when we win we have even more MO than last year and next year we are starting the year top ten with a Purdue beat down and a UM thrashing.

I love ND, but be honest with yourselves...we are not BCS worthy. Not even close. We lost to Michigan, who sucks, and Navy. We lost to USC at home. We squeaked by 4 other wins.

The hell with the BCS, my focus is completely on tonight. We win tonight, and we're still alive for the Gator Bowl.

I'm not forgetting, but the voters will. If we go 10-3 with Clausen back, all they're going to see is that we finished hot with some impressive wins and have a lot of talent coming back.

I feel stupid doing a preseason prediction for next year, but at the absolute most, there are 13 teams that would be ranked ahead of us next year if we finish 10-3, and most likely not all 3 will be ahead of us.

Big East: Cincy
SEC: Florida, Bama, LSU
ACC: Miami, VT, GT
Big 10: OSU
Big 12: Texas
PAC-10: USC, Oregon
Non-BCS: TCU, Boise

Stanford is beating USC 21-7 at halftime.

If those two scores hold up and we take care of business tonight, then this could be a great day for our small BCS chances.

Also remember that a conference can only have 2 teams in a BCS Bowl. However, there is still no way that we make one. 8 spots are already taken and I doubt that we win out anyways.

So Stanford beating USC 55-21 all but knocks USC out of at-large contention and could put Stanford into the top 15. Could not have been a better game for our BCS hopes.

This half-full/half-empty BCS Cup has been a dribble glass in disguise all season. Every time the level of hope in the cup surpasses the 50% mark we manage to punch a new hole in it to drain hopes, dreams, expectations and exhortations down our chins and onto replica jerseys.

Plug the holes. Fill the cup. Let it overflow.

9 Top 25 Team lost Saturday. ND got the help it needed to get back in the bowl picture IF ND had taken care of their own business. They didn't.
