For any of you that have seen me post, you know I have overdosed on the Irish Kool-Aid, so bear with me on this as I re-ask the question Mark May never answered.

Are the Irish deserving of a BCS bid if they go 10-2 in the regular season (presuming the 2 losses are vs. top 15 teams- Michigan, USC, or maybe UCLA), despite the last 4 games on their schedule?

Remember, the BCS is about money not "deserve"

we deserve it anyway if we went 10-2. We could own every other team in the bcs(if we went 10-2) except for a sec team. Realistically we could have gone 12-0 last year. We could have beaten usc and we could have beaten um, we just didnt show up to play.

Yes, we would be deserving, unless PERHAPS the losses were blowouts and the wins were lucky squeakers that involved injuries to key opposing players.

I think '05 was much more 'realistic' to go undefeated than last year. 2 3-point losses in a game where we didn't show up for a half and the other where we did not show up for 1 play were all the difference in '05.

Here's the uglier scenario, we go undefeated through 8 games and 2 other teams (lets say texas and lsu) are also undefeated as we go into the alleged cupcake portion of our schedule. Is ND the odd team out in the BCS championship picture if those 3 teams are undefeated?

I think we would deserve it, however, voters might not. It all depends on how the teams we beat do. 2 years ago we beat michigan, huge win for notre dame... huge. However, UM went 7-5 i think that season, and look what everybody said, "oh they werent that good this year." It really depends on how the teams we beat do, if they do very well, look for us to be in a BCS game easily, if they do horribly... who knows what happens.

The only way we don't get in with a scenario like that is because both teams will play a conferance championship game. If one of those teams loses, we're in, if they both finish undefeated, we could be left out, but one thing to take into account. Michigan will be win on the road, UCLA will be road win, PSU will be road win, SC who should be ranked #1 will be at home. Even though our last 4 games are cupcakes, 6 or our first 8 will be against good opponents. We'll have our haters no matter what we do, but if the BCS has anything to say about it, we'll be in. Look at the money and marketing we bring with us to a game. With money being the root of all evil, the BCS would do what they can to make sure they can get the most money out of the situation that they can. JMO.

With the game being in New Orleans, I don't know that we offer any type of competitive advantage if LSU and Texas are the other 2 undefeated teams, do we? The New Orleans connection for LSU in the Sugar Bowl would make them a lock in my opinion. I'm sure Texas travels well...

You could also put aside the thought of a split national title, as we would be playing the Big East or ACC champ (or Boise State) in another BCS game. No shot at jumping an LSU/Texas winner in the AP.

I would think this would depend on the lopsidedness of the loss coupled with point spreads on the wins would play into our acceptability. If we loose 2 close games to the likes of UM and USC and show dominant wins, then by all means ND should be in a BCS game.

If we are blown out in the 2 loses, and squeak by the additional teams, then my guess would be no BSC for ND. Or, if our 2 losses come to team which we should beat and do not, then again no BCS consideration. 1 loss to a team we should be, maybe, but this might even be a tough one.

One more thing I thought of today. Some of it will depend on who they play in their conferance championship game. If they squeak by a mediocre team with, say, 3 or 4 losses, we might be able to usurp one of them. Think back to 05, FSU with 4 losses made a BCS game by beating Va. Tech, who everyone thought would smoke FSU. Say, Texas plays a 4 loss Missouri, or Nebraska team, and doesn't get by with more than a field goal, that might be enough to give us our shot. Maybe not.

Don't think that's enough. The voters are going to remember Navy, Stanford, and Duke to close the season. A championship game doesn't hurt unless you lose it.
