Weis has just said in his post-game press conference that the team will go to full pads tomorrow. Additionally, Weis and the staff will start to install the offense and defense just like it's the first day of training camp.

Also, Weis has said that most every spot is up for grabs. I assume this means that every spot besides the captains. What do you guys think?

He HAS to do this... good move, energize the team... I expected all year that MSu would be another story win or lose... we shall see

Wow. Thanks for posting this. I was just about to roll my eyes at yet another new thread, but this is really interesting. Good job.

Smart move.

Does all spots mean Clausen and Sharpley are back to square one?

Practice should be less fun than the games. The games are pretty miserable so I would imagine that the players will not enjoy tomorrow very much. If my team played like that when I was in high school we would have spent the entire practice running sprints in full pads.

The guys looked like they weren't even trying. I just want to see them play hard!

I think that the OLine jobs are up for grabs. I think the D is fairly well settled...

Let's be honest, they would not give up 38 if the damn offense stayed on the field for more than 3 plays.

Great move Charlie good back to Paul Bear Bryant ways. Full Pads all week. HELL WEEK. We need to take our boys to the Battle of the Bulge. GET NASTY, TUFF, AND MAKE EVERYBODY SCARED OF NOTRE DAME. Right now we are just a pair of sissy's on a pee-wee football team. I hope we fire John Latina right away. GET THAT OFFENSIVE LINE FIXED IMMEDIATELY or else Clausen will be in the hospital.

I have seen/read enough interviews/articles about SC to know that this is how their practices are run. There was a spot on espn today about how there players felt that their Saturdays were easier than their Tuesdays.

Im gad Weis is doing this. At the beginning on the year he said that he owes it to the 5th year guys to let them play. Well they are NOT producing at all. For exception of Carlson and Laws, everybody else that is a upper classmen is playing horrible. Your going to see ALOT of underclassmen playing against MSU.

Just like USC players saying that saturdays are easier than tuesdays, that has to be saying something. IT means that they are getting their asses worked in practice and by time Game time rolls around, they are excited to get out of practice and hit somebody. Thats why they have been #1 so many years. Oh yeah and they recruit very well.

I do not believe the captains should get a free pass. Travis Thomas committed another ridiculous penalty on a punt return today. I think he should have to compete for a spot just like everyone else.

Practice should always be harder than games, that is the only way you get better. It seems like ND has gotten away from that with the lack of depth, so it is good to hear CW say whoever is left standing from the beating will be the guys playing.

Why didn't they try this approach last week. We may not be 0-3. Sometimes I think Charlie takes things to lightly. I agree the Defense was on the field to long, but they were hit and miss in the 1st quarter. So good ole' hitting will get the ship back into shape.

In football hitting is always a way to fix your problems. Now hopefully they will be going full speed because it looks like game speed and the power that comes from it is killing the team.

Well said, but my boy #89 ain't playing that great either. I remember seeing him totally whiff on one block, and it seemed like he had at least a good chance to catch that long one over the middle (it wasn't replayed).

What do they have to lose?

Watching the game yesterday was very depressing. I'm stunned how horrible the offensive line was. Clausen was sacked 8 times!!! He never got a chance to throw and the chances to run the ball were non-existent.

Everyone knew this season wasn't going to be the best. But who foresaw that things would be this bad?

This is quite obvious in hindsight, but after Penn State, didn't we all think we were getting better? We were better than GT for certain, and oftentimes it looked like the offense would get something going if only we didn't have a penalty of every other play. The OLine still was playing great, but there were less mental errors than GT, and most of us, perhaps you were not one, thought that things were improving, and that we'd continue to do better. That is probably why they didn't do this last week, because nobody expected this THIS week.

I love C-Dub, but I also agree that he still hasn't learned to say all of the right things to his team and the media/fans. The whole 'no disrespect to Michigan, they're just the next game' mentality blows for me. Let's get back to the days where the Michigan game was live or die, when the players had to pass a test on ND/USC rivalry in order to play.

That 'nasty' attitude we were sold 3 years ago doesn't mix with the business-like pro approach Charlie is trying to instill in this program. You've got to have the horses to run a program like that. You've got to get nasty first.

I'm experiencing muscle atrophy from not having had to do any touchdown push-ups this year. (And the 10 years of marriage).

O-line, if their knuckles turn white, the rush is coming. Learned that from Mark Wahlberg. Watch Invincible. You appear to have the time on your hands.

Yes, I think a lot of us saw some progress from GT to PSU. A 33% decrease in sacks (9 to 6) comes to mind for me. And people were saying that GT and PSU were good defenses. But obviously that progression disappeared from week 2 to week 3. We made the team that lost to App. State look good. Sorry to restate the obvious. I hope training camp works.

Here are the players I would like to see replaced:

1-Paul Duncan-he has been terrible so I don't care who replaces him.

2-John Ryan-preferably with Kerry Neal, who has looked great when in there.

3-Ambrose Wooden-He sucked as a starter and he sucks as a nickel db too. With BC and Purdue coming up, this is a must. Get McNeil in there.

4-Anthony Vernaglia-He hasn't done much and I'd like to see Tortsb Smith get more reps here.

Let training camp part 2 begin!

I'm about to see some guys talk about ND on ESPN. I saw Mark May and he did not trash ND at all it was pretty funny.

Ryan played pretty well Saturday ... or at least he had a bunch of tackles. Smith did NOTHING.

I watched ESPN and now ND has no talent even after most of the players that CW has gotten were on ESPN top 150. How can they say there is no talent when they put these kids in there top 150 can somone please tell me how they can say that. Also CW can not coach(not from me but ESPN). One more thing they said ND would win 1 game and CW would not turn this around.

I need a transcript for this one. Who said CW can't coach?

Man I am too down to really post. I am sick right now. I am ND by far but right now I'm in the dumps. Maybe tomorrow I would be better. I haven't watched ESPN fully in like 3 days...
I thought we would be decent man. :( This is bad. Somebody say something to cheer me up...

Last thing and then I will stop they said CW won with Ty's players, players that were not considered to be good coming out of HS, but yet he won with them so how can CW coach Ty's guys and win but not his own guys.

Back to training camp? What the f@#$ does that mean?
I'm sorry, it all seems like rhetoric to me now. ND getting their asses handed to them every week and then coming out with this load of BS. ND has the worst offensive line I have ever seen in 35 years of watching college football. Get rid of Latina and bring in someone who can teach these guys how to block. Or, at least simplify the schemes on the OL. Is it just me, or does anyone else think that maybe, just maybe, the blocking schemes are too complex for this young line to process. These guys are obviously not without talent, but they are playing like they've never stepped on a football field. They are confused. Maybe it is simple as this -- Put the five biggest, meanest, hungriest guys on the team on the line and tell them to push they guy across from them into the bleachers. Do something, but, for christ sakes, don't insult my intelligence with some BS about going back to training camp. It's just pathetic.

Well, come on. Quinn and Samardzija were FREAKS ... two of the very best players in CFB. You can credit that to Weis if you want, but some will disagree.

That said, those guys were also juniors by the time Weis got to them, and they had solid players around them. Obviously the fact that Weis hasn't gotten much out of this group so far doesn't show that he's incapable of it.

But we've been BAD. Really, REALLY bad. Mind-blowingly, inexcusably bad. And there's no doubt that Weis deserves a lot of flack for that.
