I will be applying to Notre Dame this fall. I will very likely not get in because of SAT's score. But what be a good CC to attend besides Holy Cross College to go to ND?

I have a friend who went to HC, was in the ND band, and works for the ND PR department... and got denied enrollment twice. Good luck!

Dude, I transferred myself. PM me and I'll shoot you my email address. Ask me anything and everything and we'll get you into ND and set up with the best crew on campus: ND Transfers.

Half as smart, twice as fun. And everybody wants to be one.

^ That goes for anybody on this board that is applying and doesn't/won't get in. Or anybody that knows somebody in this situation. Hit me up.

Why not study really hard for the next month or so and then take the SAT again? It's a test on which you can definitely improve very quickly with some practice tests, vocabulary flash cards, and math practice.

I am planning to take the SATS this fall.

Good luck PA! My advice is SAT is all about practice. I myself took it five different times and had three different tutors to get the SAT's that I felt ND would accept. I would definetely recommend just doing as much practice as possible and when you feel like you've done enough, do some more. Good luck again

ND is very difficult to get into from a CC. If you can go to a four year school, especially a pretty good one and then apply to transfer, that will make a big difference in their decision. ND loves high SAT scores as well, and they like extremely involved people. They are also huge suckers for a a personal statement that would be specific to ND.

For what it's worth Holy Cross is not a community college. I will be going there this fall with the intent of transferring to Notre Dame, but if that does not work out I will be happy there for four years.

Only advice I can give you is take the SAT's again, be involved in everything, and write some kick *** essays. Also a few letters of recommendation go a long way.

This is credited. Go to a school where you can take the classes Notre Dame wants you to take, stand out academically, get involved, and write a compelling personal statement that demonstrates that you're a Notre Dame kind of guy.

Going to Holy Cross is good because you can get involved in Notre Dame groups and demonstrate your character in an unequivocal way. Some things to keep in mind though is that it is expensive and the school is pushing for students to stay put. However, many students do cross the street every year from Holy Cross to Notre Dame (though I know many more still apply).

That said, Notre Dame will see your SAT score when you apply, even as a transfer, so I wouldn't for a second brush that off. Prepare thoroughly for the test and none of us will be needing to wish you luck. Good luck, anyway!

My bad I didnt realize it was a four year college. I just know about it because of Rudy. I plan to take the SATS again. I am a NHS member, Eagle Scout and play rec bball. Thanks for the advice.

No worries. Feel no shame in getting rejected. I had about fifteen friends apply, one was accepted, one was wait listed, and the rest were all rejected. We were accepted to all other schools we applied to for what is worth too. Apply. Being in NHS and being an eagle scout are huge pluses. Good luck!

Those activities are a good start. Get hungry for more though. Notre Dame admissions can be tough to predict. I know plenty of valedictorians who were denied in favor of students with grades just slightly below that, but who had more "intangibles."

Also, like others have already mentioned. The personal statement is important because it gives you an opportunity (1) to demonstrate that you know what makes Notre Dame the place that it is, (2) why you would thrive and grow in that environment, and (3) how you could contribute to its mission.

So, in addition to studying for the next round of the SAT, you ought to look into identifying what Notre Dame has to offer and how you fit into that picture. It's a lot, and I feel for you, but it's worth it. It's so worth it.

Apply to ND? Also what is the acceptance rate of HC and HC transfering to ND?

Acceptance rate at HCC is fairly high. ~80%, if I recall. The acceptance rate of transfers from HC to ND is not made publicly available, but the over all transfer acceptance rate is around 30% with successful students posting an average college GPA around 3.7. Anecdotally, I know a handful of HCC students get in to Notre Dame each year but many more are rejected or decide to transfer elsewhere.
