What is it with Kelly and recruits? First Prince Shembo says that Kelly has not bothered to check in with him. And now we learn, via Eric Hansen's Twitter, that Andrew Hendrix will visit Florida today. Hendrix has been "shaky" since the coaching change according to Hansen.

I won't be surprised if Hendrix defects. Regardless of what I think about Chuck as a HC (and I thought he sucked), quarterbacks view him as their ticket to the NFL. They don't look at Brian Kelly the same way, and perhaps Brian Kelly does not get that he has to suck up to these kids to make sure they stay with ND. Hendrix is a 4-star recruit. It's not like he'll play next year, but he seems like a very good option to start in two years, after Crist plays two years and heads for the NFL.

Overall, I'm disappointed with Kelly so far. A lot of nice talk to the press, but his choice of a 36-yo DC is underwhelming. Diaco coached a subpar defense this year that got clobbered by Florida. Now we're about to lose our top QB prospect. Brian Kelly -- get your stuff together and get on recruiting 24/7. Chuck would have had this class sewn up.

Should you change your handle to ChamPen? Do some research, as pointed out earlier about Prince Shembo.

You could get 3 more years of Crist, don't forget. Also, we have Rees coming in as an EE at QB. Don't want to lose Hendrix, but if you do, you recruit a kid next year, and if Crist does go pro "early" (two years from now), you still have Rees as a junior and next year's recruit as a Soph. Not the end of the world if it happens and hard to blame a coach with no relationship with the kid.

We would have an extra scholly if Hendrex flipped.

I think he's just making sure that ND is the place for him. He's getting close to making a huge committment. Let him look. He'll stay close to home.

Once he realizes that Florida is not a good place for pro style QBs, he will confirm his committment to ND.

First of all, as they just said during the AA game- a coaching change is a bigger deal for offensive players than defensive players. I think it is the biggest deal for QBs. Hendrix came from a run first school and was looking for a pro-style offense. Kelly can't just sprinkle fairy dust and pretend that running spread sets out of the shotgun is what Andrew signed-up for. Andrew is re-considering because NOTRE DAME changed the deal, not because Kelly can't hold on to recruits.

I think we will learn more about Kelly's recruiting abilities if Andrew comes (than if he leaves) because Andrew seemed to be a real Weis guy. Staying means Kelly overcame a significant hurdle- loss of a pro-style mentor who Hendrix bonded with. On the other hand, if, say, Daniel Smith or Lombard left, I think we could conclude that Kelly drove them out- they were ND first.

LOL......as was already pointed out.........Florida is not running a pro style offense so this doesn't make sense.......I think the chance of this kid coming to ND is slim now....something is bothering him.......maybe the early enroll of Rees and the fact Rees already runs this style offense has him upset.......

time to cut bait and move on.

I said that he committed to ND because they were pro-style (as he said himself a number of times). I did not say that he would not play in a differnt offense- like Florida's. Charlie's background was one of the major factors that separated ND fomr his other choices. That factor is gone. Long story short, choosing between ND and other schools like OSU (and now UF) now looks differnt now than it did 2 months ago.

I know he's committed. My point was communication with the recruits to keep em happy, you flagellating gasbag.

Nice personal attack, you still haven't responded to the Shembo comments.

I'm not sure what else you want him to do. He's spoken to a good number of recruits in person. Many of those who didn't come to South Bend, Kelly has visited in their homes (see Shembo). He's also made a number of new offers to recruits he has targeted for his system.

Some recruits will leave because they were committed to the coaching staff as well as the university. That's going to happen. But, most everyone who has met with Kelly has come away very impressed and excited to be Irish.

We'd all like to keep Hendrix. However, the fact that Kelly has sewn up as many as he has already speaks very well to his ability to recruit.

The sky is falling.... the sky is falling.
RELAX. Kelly is doing fine.
I'm not worried about him at all.
Give it time.
If he didn't call Hendrix... it's probably because Hendrix doesn't fit!

Kelly is a system guy, and if the player doesn't fit, oh well... One more scholarship for ND.

Kelly has been successful with QBs less recruited than Hendrix before.
Plus Dayne should be our guy for the two-three years. So there is always next year to land a big time recruit.

Kelly knows what he is doing.

Here's the deal, wish all these young men success and be classy, BK deserves to do this his way with his feel for the job, that's why he was hired. If a young man does not see the prestiage of being a champion at Notre Dame you have to wish them well and let go. I think this guy is going to do the job. Charlie left a lot to work with and BK knows how to do this. Give the guy a chance and remember all these 5/4 star guys are not going to work out wherever they go. Any negative post on one of these YOUNG guys does no good at all.

BREAKING NEWS..... THE GUY HE COMMITTED TO ISN'T HERE ANYMORE!!!!

Perhaps he doesn't fit into the new coaches scheme and the writing is on the wall that someone fits the mold better. Do you really want to play the "moral" card then??? Sir, there is a chance that he may not come here....yet he may. Let's not crucify the kid until a decision is made...PLEASE!!!

I think you wear extensively long shoes. Highly placed source said so.

You know what chicks say about dudes with big feet! I'm pretty sure the highly placed source is your mom!

On a serious note, why is this thread even open? Shouldn't this be in the normal Hendrix thread?

I stand by my original statement. I still think after all he has said to this point for him to suddenly change direction like a fart in the wind shows no character if this proves to be the case. I reserve the right to judge anyone who acts with such a casual disregard for their own moral ineptitude.

You wish an 18 year struggling with the biggest decision of his life to this point "some kind of career ending injury for his total lack of character" for a decision he hasn't made yet, you raise moral ineptitide AND you stand by it.

You've earned your way to a ban until after National Signing Day.

And I reserve the right to ban your sorry ass permanently if you attack another recruit regardless of his choice of college.

Listen, it's better to do some research first before you make wild accusations that are not based on anything but misguided anger. Read through the threads, and then if you still feel like you do, post away. But I doubt you would if you read through the threads.

First of all, Kelly has talked to Hendrix...a lot. He even visited with him and spoke to him personally, putting a lot of Hendrix' worries to rest. But not all of his worries. So Hendrix is checking out FL to see if it is a better fit. THAT IS NOT ON KELLY.

So you think Charlie would have had this class sewn up huh? Have you ever heard of Omar Hunter? How about Justin Trattou? Nyshier Oliver? Need any more names? All those guys were committed to ND, and CW lost them. Have you ever heard of Brian Cushing? When Ty was our coach, he was committed to ND. When Ty was fired, he started looking around. CW was hired, but he couldn't keep Cushing from committing to SC, becoming an All-American and later a first round draft pick. But CW would have sewn this class up huh?

We can all agree that CW was one hell of a recruiter, but yes, even he lost guys.

Now let's talk about Kelly recruiting 24/7. Ummm, that's pretty much what he's been doing other than hiring a staff (which takes time because of ND's exhaustive background checks - thank you O'Leary). He's already met with and received solid reviews from: Shembo, Moore, Nix, Wood, Boyd, Roberson, Jones, Utopo, Lombard, Rees, and probably others I'm missing. EVERY COMMIT HAS BEEN IMPRESSED BY HIM. He's also met with important recruits like Anthony Barr (whose mother was very impressed). He's been on the horn with every top recruit and has plans to visit them as well. Nothing but positive reviews from recruits outside of Josh Shirley, who the ND guys fell has always been lukewarm on ND despite his insistence that he MIGHT visit.

As for his staff and recruiting, every single one of them, once they were officially hired, went immediately out on the recruiting trail. Henderson's family already received a visit, and the coaches were barely even hired.

As for Diaco, that's been hashed and rehashed on his thread. I don't blame people for not being excited, but look a little closer before you talk crap about his defense's FL performance. And if you wanted to big name hire, how did Tenuta work out for us? Just go read that thread for more thoughts on that, and post your thoughts there.

My suggestion to you is to buy a subscription to Rivals, Scout, Blue and Gold, or ISD. Or just read the threads on this site a lot closer, and then you won't sound like you don't know what you're talking about. Because saying that Hendrix hasn't been talked to, or that CW would have sewn this class up, or that Kelly needs to start recruiting, is simply not true, and quite frankly, ridiculous...
