Quite frankly, I wouldn't be so confident about the Syracuse game.

There were several around here who questioned [NAME REDACTED] as a coach last year, and caught a lot of flack for it while hearing nothing but excuses about young players, tough opponents, Ty, wait til next year, blah blah blah.

Well, we see how that's working out now.

That was from 2 weeks ago. (And some thought I was going overboard with the statement in bold.)

When are the homer-blind going to grow tired of continually making excuses and rationalizing?

What exactly does it take for you to recognize that this is a severely underperforming and poorly coached team?

I just don't get it.

Some of these bowls are saying they'll take ND even if we lost to Syracuse (which we did) and USC (which we probably will...and by a lot). Personally, I think we should respectfully decline the invite and give it to a team that actually deserves to play in the post season. This one is limping in on questionable results.

Worst bowl we get is the Sun bowl. Declining a bowl invite is akin to suicide. Extra practice clearly this team needs.

Sometimes fans want team to practice more. Sometimes the athletes would rather go home to momma and get some home cooking. Extra practice under CW system accomplishes nothing. Winning or losing the Sun Bowl accomplishes nothing.

The difference, however, is that I am willing to accept the facts of what has been on the field. I don't make excuses for [NAME REDACTED] and I don't rationalize shit performances by the team.

I want more than anything for us to succeed, but it has become exceedingly clear that the current staff isn't the best option for that.

It must be easy to knock anyone who points out the obvious and criticizes a horrid football team full of blue-chip recruits as being "negative" or a "hater."

The whole reason I am so pissed at this team is how much I want them to be (and know that the players are capable of being) successful.

OPEN YOUR EYES AND STOP BEING SO DAMN DEFENSIVE. This team has the talent to be a top 25 team but shows up like a struggling team from a mid-major.

Again.....exactly what does it take for the blind to see what is actually transpiring on the field? Please answer that question, because it is absolutely mind-boggling to me. Do we have to scrimmage a Pop Warner team and lose? Seriously....at what point do you begin to acknowledge the reality that is unfolding right in front of your face?

I think ND should move on but I'm not going to insult Charlie like he's sub human, just like I have refused to bash Ty, who is a class guy...

seems to me the extremes on both sides bash eveyone not on their wave, even those in the middle

Im just hoping we can all respect each other... I was called out earlier today for being a member of the ND PR department due to 'bashing those who bash ND'

have zero clue where that statement may have even been misrepresented or twisted from something I said, or most likely never came close to saying, in the past... so obviously the board is quick to point fingers at those who don't fall totally in line and it's on both sides... even more dissapointment today

This reminds me of a great Joe B Hall anecdote. For the younguns, he was the UK basketball coach for 19 years - 1978 NC and several seconds.

In 1976, a young UK team had a lackluster season, losing their last game. They would not go to the NCAA tourney. So the team got together and voted. They decided they would not be interested in going to the NIT. They all wanted to go to Florida for a delayed spring break.

Captain Mike Phillips went in to tell the coach what they had decided. When Phillips told Coach Hall their feelings, he replied "Well Mike, we already took a vote on this yesterday, and we're going to the NIT". A confused Phillips said "We did, what was the vote?". Hall replied "1-0".

UK went on to win the NIT that season, coming together as a team. Both agreed later that what they experienced in that NIT laid the ground work for their 1978 championship a few years later.

In summary, any bowl game would be a great thing for this or any team, imo.

Only advantage I see to joining the circus of ribbon passing is that it will be good prep for next year's bigger bowl game.

Disadvantage is furtther exposing teenagers to permanent injury for the fun and gambling of idiots. They have already extended the college season from 11 to 12 or 13 games, so that fans can be satisfied and more money can made at the sake of these pups.

BINGO...don't care if its the worst bowl available...I have never seen the logic in skipping any bowl...although its been done I guess.

Give me 20 more practices...about half like fall camp...work the hell out of the o-line, bring in a new o-line coach, if we can find one, before the bowl

This is a time to seek any means to improvement...We would be getting paid to improve the program...talk about a no-brainer...and if that includes going to a bowl usually reserved for the #4 team in a non BCS conference...SO WHAT!

As much as I am frustrated with this team, and its coaches, the few seniors on deck deserve a shot...love to see them leave with a bowl win, the first since '93...and the 1st distinguisihing characteristic for these guys that isn't dubious...

You have to have SOMETHING to build on for next year. If you decline a bowl bid, no matter the bowl, what is the message you are sending? Give the kids a vote of confidence and close out the season on a good note. Winning the Toilet Bowl would be better than the Dec/Jan of last year.

I understand your idea about extra practice, but if the coaches can't teach, which is readily apparent, then why practice 2 more weeks the wrong way?

I don't want you to eat crow, but I feel that we are wasting time.

It really appears from the quotes of the players that Weis has lost them. They just don't believe in him anymore. Therefore "Why waste time with another year of futility." It could become a nightmare and then another coach with skills will never come.

It's tough enough now to get a good coach interested. In another year, if it's the same old S_ _ _ _ Y play, we're screwed.

I suggest you read Coach Tom Pagna's column in Blue and Gold about the team "Quitting." Obviously, he, a professional, sees some major problem also. Teams quit when the coach loses their respect.

I love the team and realize a coaching change is necessary, NOW! I don't want them to lose out by waiting for that change. I want them to win and I do cheer for them. It's time to Wake Up The Echoes! Period.
