Over on GH, IUB (gosh I miss him) says that Harper has told the staff that if we offer him, he'll reserve one of his five official visits for us. He has already taken an unofficial visit to ND, so that can't be a bad thing.

He also says that there are some indications that Harper may already have an offer, but there's no hard news yet on that front.

michael floyd, you better hurry up.

Floyd won't be deciding until after his senior season with his high school football team saying he wants to see how the season unfolds and he doesn't want to be a distraction on his own team. It's rumored that he may wait until the AAA game to announce.

In a recent article where Chris talks about getting an offer from ND he mentioned that CW doesn't have any one posistion in mind for Chris he just told him "He knows that people are looking at me at quarterback and at wide receiver, but isn't sure where I’ll play.. he said that he jus knows that he wants me to play for them, so that's why he offered."

Chris said he'll probably be on campus for the USC game because his game that week will be on a Thurs., so the schedules will work out well. I wouldn't be suprised if this has more to do with Sabino rather than Floyd, especially since Crowin Brown is involved in Chris's recruitment.

From a poster at GH. Not sure about his track record, so take it FWIW:

Just listened to an interview with Chris Harper. I don't have a good feeling about this at all. he said he was surprised at how little was going on on campus during his unofficial visit compared to other schools. He said he didn't have a favorite and will be there for the USC game either officially or unofficially, but really didn't seem too excited about Notre Dame. Judging by the fact that he shares Arthur Brown's "recruiting consultant," I question his interest in getting a ND offer. Don't hold your breath on Harper!!

I've actually read the opposite. From what I saw he really liked he visit to ND and thought it was a beautiful campus. So much so that he talked about it quite a bit to A.Brown on their trip of schools through the south and started comparing most of the schools to ND. Some also thought that these talks may have somewhat piqued Arthur's interest in ND. I still don't think A.Brown will end up at ND regardless of which school Harper chooses, but maybe it'll help some next year with Bryce Brown.

That would be great, but I was under the impression that the two Brown brothers want to play at the same school. Did I misread something about that?

This is from IK:

I just listened to his interview on Irish Tuesdays by B&G.com (who accually do player interviews every week unlike Power Hour who bores the sh*t out of me with their "board coaches") and I got the vibe that he was a little turned off by the lack of activity in South Bend during the summer. He's coming to the USC game and obviously prefers QB, but it depends on the situation. Not the most flatering of interviews based on his reaction to his visit to SB. He liked the players (DJ, Jabbie, West), but it was dead unlike alot of other places he visited this summer. He said he may decide on NSD so he's obviously not worried about having a spot.

I think I saw something where they said it would be cool to play together, but they both had to pick the best place for themselves, so they wouldn't necessarily be going to the same school.

I'm not worried about the whole lack of activity thing. You have to remember he was here when just about eveyone else was home for the summer. If he does end up comming to the USC game then the atmosphere and campus will be a verry different place this time around.

Just read from a poster (purguy12) on sportsline.com's notre dame page that we are in Harpers top three. Has anyone heard anything else about this? This guy on sportsline is usually a pretty accurate poster from what i have seen of him.

Per IUB, this kid's situation is just a huge puzzle. He says he definitely wants to play quarterback in college, which is bad for us. Then he says his favorites are ND, Kansas State, Mizzou, and the Fighting Zooks - which sounds good, until you realize that those other three are all places where he'd be a QB, which makes the ND stuff seem like posturing. THEN he says his two definite official visits are ND and Cal ...

Make of it what you will. I sure won't be holding my breath on this kid.

Yeah, from what I read I would be expecting him to come to ND at this point either. To me it seemed as though he wanted an ND offer just to be able to say he has one and use it to get attention and possible draw more offers from some of the bigger football schools. If I had to guess I'd say he'll end up at a smaller football school that is recruiting him as a QB rather than a WR, or ATH.

This is old, but ... well, I suppose it's not worth much at all.

Harper adds a big one

By Jeremy Crabtree, Recruiting Editor – Rivals.com

Need any more evidence that Wichita (Kan.) Northwest four-star athlete Chris Harper is one of the best players in the nation?

He's already proven it on the field with two dominating seasons on the grid iron and the basketball court. He also did well this summer at several summer camps. Plus he has offers from some of the nation's top programs.

Well, that offer list – and his case for national prominence – just officially grew by one more major program.

"I just hung up the phone with Charlie Weis at Notre Dame, and he offered me a scholarship as a receiver," Harper said. "It's really exciting to get an offer from a big school like that. It's always been one of the schools that I was very interested in. I really liked it when I went up there for my visit, and I'm definitely considering using one of my official visits to Notre Dame."

Harper took an unofficial visit to South Bend, Ind., earlier this summer and came away very impressed. When he was in South Bend, Harper was showed around campus by Irish defensive coordinator Corwin Brown, quarterback Demetrius Jones and receiver George West.

"It was really nice there," Harper said. "Notre Dame and Missouri would be the two nicest schools that I've been to when talking about facilities. They gutted out the old stuff and remodeled everything. I went around campus, and it's a smaller school. That's not necessarily a bad thing. They've only got about 8,000 students. The coaches were real cool, too.

" Coach Brown said I would have a good chance to play early because they don't have too many guys that can do so many different things with the ball like I can. He knew about the situation with me wanting to play quarterback because he went through it also with the recruiting process."

At this point, the only school that Harper said he knows for sure that will get a visit is Cal.

"I don't know when I'd go out there, but that's a school I want to visit for sure," he said. "It'll probably be a visit some time during the season or right after it."

Harper, who is 6-foot-2 and 231 pounds, has scholarship offers from Illinois, Kansas State, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Michigan, California and several others. He recently took a string of unofficial visits to schools like Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Alabama, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss. He camped this summer at Kansas State.

"I'm still working on a top five," he said. "I want to use my officials to visit some of the schools that are further away that I haven't been to yet. The teams that are recruiting me at quarterback will be there for sure, though. And at this point, that's just Kansas State, Missouri and Illinois. I don't know about the others yet."

Harper is ranked as the nation's No. 16 athlete and the No. 156 player in the nation. As a junior he rushed for more than 1,000 yards and threw for more than 500 yards.

ESPN Top 150 Athlete Chris Harper led Northwest to 30-8 victory over Southeast (Wichita, Kan.) while passing for 91 yards and a TD. After the 6-8 passing performance, Coach Schwartz declared: "Yes, Chris can throw. I mean, Chris Harper is Chris Harper," writes the Wichita Eagle.
