This is probably a thread not worth originating, but I can't help wanting to give a shout out to the guy who I feel has made the most added difference to this team. Louis Nix in my opinion is turning us into a team who can be in the game with anybody.

The next three games will tell a lot about that assertion, but Big Lou has clogged the middle so effectively that teams like MSU and Pitt were paralyzed. If he can do something similar vs the spread option fullback dives, that will be two more unsung victories for the big man.

Our team doesn't have too many "new additions" really [thankfully a lot of very good old warriors], and we tend to hear giddy praise for the spectacular Lynch's, Ishaq's, Tuitt's, Niklas' even when they are just out there wowing everyone with their physiques. OK, I praise them too. But Big Lou is down there in the meathouse grinding it out and playing spectacularly even if unseen by the cameras.

One last item: the big man hustles. Many, many plays, even ultimately out near the edge, there's mammoth number 9 hustling astonishingly quickly to the ball. After every other Lynch or Fleming or Te'o sack, we should stop a moment and thank God that one fine day, even after the coach who had recruited him got fired and no new coach was yet named, the big man reached out and grabbed that ND hat, and showed us his famous smile.

Right on with this one. I remember play after play against USF, Louis was out in the flats helping with the tackle. He's a kid that plays to the whistle and flies to the ball. He is a great piece of this defense that is for sure. Great post my friend. And as always, GO IRISH!!!

I love this new trend of plucking DL from the Deep South. Nix made me forget about losing out on Omar Hunter.

I'm just worried that Navy and maybe Air Force are going to injure a few of our defensive linemen with their cut blocks. That's how Ian was injured last year right? I hope Big Lou stays healthy and rips the academies (and USC) a new one.

Well put, he's going to have a great career, not just in South Bend, but beyond.

Wasnt Bruce Hedgie from the South?

And is this Ben Koyack any Good?

Heggie is from the Yukon Territory, and just played in Florida because it provided him with somewhat worthy competition. Koyack is a very talented punter I believe.
