In your opinion, what are the 3 most important things we need to do in order to beat Michigan?

1. Control the time of possession by establishing our run game.
2. Stop Michigan's running attack.
3 Give Quinn plenty of time in the pocket. ie. o-line needs to step up.

1. Suck less than Michigan

In all seriousness, I think you are dead on with #'s 1&2. While I think 3 is important, I'd put winning the special teams battles at #3. The history of ND/UM is littered with games that swung one way or another from a big special teams play. Moreso than any other game this year, ST will be huge on Saturday.

My keys to victory are:

1. Long sustained drives to keep our defense off the field and rested
2. Limit the big plays. Michigan is gonna get a ton of yards. But if we can force them to sustain drives rather than give up big plays, they are more than likely to make mistakes and we also give our D a chance to make plays/key stops.
3. Win the turnover battle. I think we will need to have 2 less turnovers than them

If we can do the above, we win.

1. Score
2. More
3. Points

for real now:
1. Limit the run
2. Pressure "hanging" Chad...he tends to mess up in the face of danger
3. Stop that beast of a DE

Key to Victory:
1. Limit Hart to 100 yards or less.
2. Defensive backs play for interceptions by staying within 3 yards of MI receivers.
3. Protect Brady...60% completions and we win.

1) Stop Hart from running on us
2) Push their D-Line around (get Darius some yards/protect Quinn)
3) Crush Henne when he tries to pass forcing him to throw INTs

Keys to Michigan's win:
--Derail pretty-boy QB's Heisman candidacy with relentless pressure and numerous sacks
--Run the ball down their throats
--Don't give up big plays, including on Special Teams

A couple of stats for the Carr haters:

National Championships:
OyDDD Carr = 1
Charlie Weiss = 0

Career record:
OyDDD 104-34 = 75.4 %
Weiss 9-3 = 75 %

Weiss is good, but let him win something before you deify him.

Plus, I believe the current wins/losses count looks like this now:

Career record:
Lloyd Carr 104-34 = 75.4 %
Charlie Weis 11-3 = 78.5 %

Just to clear the record.

Maison --
It was all in fun, I'm not a Carr hater. (He has provided ND with some great wins! he, he)

You forgot another stat:
Super Bowl rings - Weis 4, Lloydd 0 (I believe, not positive but you'd think we'd know about them if he had some)

If CW came to ND a year or two sooner, he may well have been the Pope!

Seriously Maison, I used to really dislike Michigan but have actually grown a little more tolerant of them since I've been coming to IE. You're a good representative of whatever/whoever you support. That's not BS. I respect your opinions and thoughts on these boards. (now don't get teary on me)

With that said, I still want to see Michigan get their butts handed to them.

1) Make some big plays on this stout Michigan defense - Coming into the game, they are the 6th ranked defense in the land giving up an average of 187.5 yards per game. Granted, that was against Vandy and Central Michigan, but these guys are experiences, talented and aggressive.

2) Stuff the run - Averaging 383.5 yards per game, Michigan is getting nearly 2/3 of their total yards on the ground at right at 250 yards a game. But stuffing the run, we'd be forcing Chad Henne to make good throws and challenging the Michigan receivers to hold onto the ball. However, we could see something similar from Ecker like Carlson did this weekend if we send too many men into the box.

3) Win Turnover Battle - The team that makes the fewest mistakes in this series typically wins. By the way things look on paper, and this game looks no different.

You are definitely correct. My bad on that one.

There's no question. Maison is the man. And there are plenty of ND people, on this board and others, who are total morons. I mean, that Cabbage guy and that goofy brother of his?

For me, I'm starting to think stopping UM's run is the biggest key of them all. Looking at the ND-PSU tape and the UM-Vandy tape last night (I am getting about as much sleep as CW these days with work and the coaching gig), Hart/Grady vs. the front seven looks like a favorable edge to UM.

Notre Dame's O Line must step up and knock someone's teeth out. The stupid penalties have to stop. I don't care who your coach or QB is, 2nd and 15 just isn't as nice as 2nd and 5. Penalties have stalled drives or cost them 4 points due to settling for field goals.

I rewatched the game last night and we did get gashed up the middle on quite a few runs. That is going to need to be shut down more to beat Michigan. I think the perimeter run D is actually pretty tight.
