His uncle Winston played for Illinois.

Regardless of that, I continue to believe the hat game is outdated and at this point there isn't really any excuse for it. Just make your choice public and do it without any cake and watermelon.

Well, he’s a sophomore in high school.
Any other position? I agree and it doesn't matter.

QB is just different and you either have a guy you trust with your offense or not. Even with a good college career, how he acted in a high school documentary series was held against Spencer Rattler (a much more talented player than Taylor) in the draft years later by owners, GMs and coaches. If you don't have an elite skillset, things like this matter at this position.

If I was coaching, this behavior from my QB would not be for me.

I am by no means a fun police curmudgeon. I like the individual and team celebrations, bat flips, the NBA, etc. It's sports. Not truly the end of the world and is the least important of the most important things.

That being said, with everything being so public and viral now, athletes in this position really need to consider how they act. Case and point with this situation.

I don't know if the parents and or coach knew Trae was going to do this, but the adults from this point forward should probably have discussions with these athletes about making these announcements. Have a little bit of fun, but don't disrespect any of the schools you do not pick and make a scene. It's really very simple. Less is more. Be humble, thankful, throw up praise to God if you want to. Leave out any kind of unnecessary actions or remarks like throwing hats or switching hats. One dude years ago picked UGA by revealing a puppy bulldog. It was pretty damn awesome. Just show as much class and humility as possible.

The world is not going to end because of this, but the optics are just poor any way you slice it. It was not at all necessary and has tarnished this kid's moment to the point he needed to make an apology after. I knew Trae's dad in college. He was a stand up person, never mind athlete. Did all of the right things regardless of the situation as far as I ever knew. Never heard a bad word said about him. Nobody is perfect, we can't control everything our kids do, so with that I really do think that J.R. will make this a teachable moment for Trae and life will go on.

16 is young. You can operate a vehicle legally but apart from that, there is a ton to learn yet. I'm not going to pass judgment on Trae to this point. It's disappointing that his moment is being seen through a negative lens by some people who saw it. He's going to have to carry that now.

There was an interesting and disheartening op-ed in the WSJ recently about the idea that "class" is currently at an all time low. I think pendulum will swing back eventually but the absolute lack of decorum from nearly everyone is getting very tiring.

I assume the staff has some plan for 27 QB recruiting. I just don’t know what it is.
These are sophomores in high school we're talking about. From a football standpoint, you'd better be damn good getting an offer that soon.

Then comes the whole admissions and transcript aspect of this.

I would tend to agree with this. We can go into the multitude of reasons why, but I think things were not going in the right direction for a while. Then the pandemic broke a lot of brains.

I think accountability and corrective action are important regardless. There are issues. Fix them. Especially ones you have control over as an individual.

That being said, I am not going to far as to call the Taylor Family and Carmel HS classless. I think the entire situation could have been avoided and was not in any way necessary, but this isn't at all some kind of societal catastrophe. I just don't think it was necessary and fail to see what point it ultimately served.

It's not just Americans. Here in Canada things have also gone way downhill in that regard. I've always prided myself on being polite no matter what (except here lol). People just seem to be miserable/rude/selfish everywhere I go now. The hat thing in itself isn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things. But it does show a real lack of awareness. Especially now with how often players transfer. I hope he learns from this. And I think he will because psychotic fans are attacking him on x. I don't agree with doing that either.

Say you live in Toronto without saying you live Toronto. (I say that as a proud resident lol).

I'm actually enjoying that despite being at a Catholic school in the Chicago suburbs and not offered nobody has chimed in about "loosing" a player in "our backyard."

I think it's is allowable if it is a Michigan or USC hat when someone is committing to ND. All other situations are poor taste, ESPECIALLY if it's done to our Irish.
