Could be the case (just speculating) that ND ultimately upped his NIL offer, which was reported to have been a sticking point, and decided that if it leaves them less money to compete in the pursuit of Fakatou, then so be it. Who knows how the Fakatou recruitment finishes...

That's a fantastic 5 man class as a foundation. If ND can lock that group down they can spend the rest of the cycle chasing down a difference maker as a 6th member of the group.
