Verified size and length. Checks out in pic with Freeman, lol. As noted above, very high academic young man.

I see him as more of a Elko/Lea type Rover. ISD’s update says they think of him like an Alohi Gilman type S. I do have reservations about speed to be a full time S at the next level but that can also come with time.

The prospect of having two commits at a position with critical depth issues that both have speed concerns and a potential move to LB in their future doesn't sound ideal, no?

That was posted on April 16th, before Urlacher committed. I'm not as high on Urlacher though I understand why they took that commitment.

But to answer the question, in a vacuum, no. Not ideal. But, if you plan on taking 4 or 5 not as worried.

I dont see much of a speed concern. I don’t think he’s a sub 4.5 guy, but 4.6 is fine as a safety.

The fact that he has a bit more length than Minich, Shuler and now Urlacher sets him apart.

Not ideal speed/quickness measurables and my guess is Urlacher wouldn't be any better.
I do like Denson, Lane and McClain. Not sold on Gallegos.
What's the sentiment if ND gets 3 of these to go with Urlacher?

He talks a lot about football in conjunction with academics and the student life. He also understands how defenses are being run now so as a safety he could contribute as a free, strong or nickel safety. Likes Duke and the ND offer excited him along with ND.

His forty speed is what it is. He has functional speed as a player and seems to be very football intelligent as well.

With that 4.77 forty probably projects as a safety who replaces the rover in our current scheme. Or the the free safety who makes up for his lack or speed by seemingly always in the right place. Not sure if he's that guy.

About time. This one seemed like a lock from Day 1.

People were/are losing their minds about Safety recruiting, and by tomorrow ND could have both Mencke & Tae Johnson in the class.

It’s quite easy to separate those that truly understand recruiting and those that don’t.

Lol people panicking in March like the Golden Dome collapsed.

I’d still take another CB/S hybrid both our corners could swing to safety it’s a nice DB class

Not to be that guy, but any worry that Mencke doesn’t seem to have offers from any of the big players in Texas?
Is he a flip risk if UT or OU comes calling?

Never understood the freak out over safety this cycle.

They're gonna sign so many guys that Tae will get his wish and be a WR.
Kind of makes you wonder if that is part of the plan and another reason they cooled on Jason Robinson.

Side question: Why is it that a ND lean is a flip risk if school x offers, but if player Y is committed elsewhere and ND offers he is never a flip to ND risk?

I think they passed on Robinson because they liked other guys more. Also, when you look at the physical profiles of the receivers Stuckey is bringing in, Robinson doesn’t fit the mold.
