Such a popularity contest. Jeanty should have won last year. Mendoza looks like he is in the driver's seat. Haynes King deserves an invite IMO.
Agreed, GT would have 3-5 losses without him. He is to GT what Diego is to Vandy. Another over achiever who probably should get invited if he can keep Vandy to 3 losses. If we didn’t have Love this year we still only have the two losses. He’s important to the team and talented as hell but we don’t need him to put us on his back and carry us to victory. Price would have similar numbers maybe even better and we would have Williams and Payne chip in.

I do think ND should put a video together of Loves blocking.

Kyren had a long one against NC. Idk how long it was, but probably around 75 yards.

I’d go….

Love

Williams
Estime
Price
Adams
Riddick
Dex
That sounds about right. Wish they would have given Love a shot at kick returns and punt returns. Would be fun to watch. Tim Brown, Rocket Reggie Bush etc.

I don’t see Kyren as #2. I think you’re using his pro success in that evaluation.
I would put Kyren at 2, pro success aside. He was just so consistent. Not necessarily a home run hitter (though, he would hit those too), but he was just such a hard runner and one of those guys who always seemed to fall forward for an extra couple of yards. I loved C.J. Prosise and feel if he had another year at RB he would be talked about in these sorts of conversations.

Heisman used to be a good award that understood the moment and even the last two were pretty good awards. But Mendoza versus Sayin for the Heisman is some NFL MVP bullshit award. Love and Jeremiah Smith should be the two favorites and Love should win it.
Where would you have Rodriguez from Texas Tech?

I'd have David Bailey in my top 5 to acknowledge the TTU defense before Rodriguez. Both, along with Caleb Downs, would be good selections for New York, better than Sayin and Mendoza who are not the best players on their offenses.

The Heisman is supposed to be for the best player, not the most valuable player. That’s why the award should go to Love or Jeremiah Smith.

It is the most outstanding player. Which is why valuable versus best gets debated every year and changes in a given year

Outstanding correlates more to best than valuable. I don’t think it should be debated.

But it’s not best which is why it does in fact get debated lol

We’ve had loads of Heisman winners that have not been the best player, many even on their own team.

Look at the first sentence. Doesn’t top player mean best player?

I want to root for him to be up there because I like to see defensive guys get some love, but TT fans make it very hard. I've seen too many "at least our star LB has a real girlfriend" jokes and the TT fanbase is in general pretty crass and classless so I can't bring myself to pull for success to that program at all.

I tend to think of the Heisman as the "best" player, but there are other factors and elements to it. What I don't like is rendering it to a "Best Stats" award. Obviously, production is a given to be up for the award but I see a small, but vocal minority of people who will say Love isn't even the best RB in the country, let alone player because Hardy from Mizzou has more yards or whatever. That's a very shallow take on the award and it ignores Love's pass catching and blocking abilities.

The Heisman Trophy by definition is the Most Outstanding Player. Always has been. Don’t care what Wikipedia says

Should it be the best? Probably. Get Quenton Nelson a Heisman. But it’s not. And the term outstanding gets stretched depending on the year, the media narrative and the candidates. Just always how it’s been.

I'm not laughing at you, just that at this point, it's so clearly a QB award first. Non-QBs get votes, but never enough.

Suh not winning was when I stopped thinking it as about most outstanding. I do think QBs always come with more inherent positional value.

At how cheap Jerry’s heisman stock is relative to how much media attention he’s starting to get, it’s worth throwing a penny at

It's a big win for the kid and ND even if he's invited. Who knows, maybe voters see a bunch of average system QBs that they can't choose between so they throw out a vote for Love and he wins it. Would be a good story.

J Love is special. Asking all the old heads. Where would you guys rank Love and Price as far as ND running backs?

Bengals gonna Bengal. If Atlanta hadn't traded 2026's 1st round pick, they'd be falling over themselves to combine Love and Bijan in the same backfield.
Honest question has any mock draft ever been remotely accurate minus the first few picks when it’s been generated a few weeks before the draft.

Most ppl know Love is the most dynamic player in the country but he was held back by a lack of touches. Only RB close to him is out for the season and the guy who was our #1 option over Love in that class. Love is definitely the best and Hardy is in the top 5 but not a top 3 back, he was pretty regular in ALL their big games (45 carries 256yds 1 TD) and a lot of that is thanks to a 55yd run.

There was a stretch in 2011 where C. Wood and Jonas Gray were both playing up to their very high potentials and created a very similar vibe on a much less hyped team.

Jonas, who was built a lot like Price, went for 791 on 114 touches (6.9ypc) with 12 TDs before an unlucky injury on a buddy pass ended his season.

Wood, who was built kind of like Love and was a 5-star, went for 1102 yards on 217 carries with 9 TDs.

I’m surprised the comparison doesn’t get made. Probably because Wood had his legal issues.

(That team also had Eifert, Michael Floyd, and TJ Jones!!! If only they had had a good QB…)

Both those guys were much thicker built backs especially Gray. He was built like Estime but had 10.5-10.6 speed and Wood was around 195-200 as a HS SR. and played around 210-215 at ND.
