I don't each recruits financial situation, but this is absolutely true for a lot of prospects. For example, Kyren Williams was not coming to ND from a great financial situation, and something as "small" as $50k could've gone a huge way towards helping his family. If you can get that money up front, why not take it? I can't say what I would do in someone's shoes, but if my parents were like "you need to make a family decision here" I think I'd probably listen to them as a teenager.

The problem, to me, is that the bulk of schools are operating under one set of rules and the other has Spyre Sports, Division Street, LifeWallet, etc. The issue is NCAA guidance. Either need to make explicitly clear what is allowed and let the chips fall where they may OR need to provide clear guidance to the contrary... something like "no prospective student athlete is allowed to have any representation or sign any kind of NIL deal until enrolled at a member institution."

When I was 17 as a senior in high school, I can confidently say that if a school offered me $50k up front with promises to make more down the road, I would have taken that offer at the drop of a hat to help my mom out, even if it meant saying “no” to my dream school. I grew up my whole life watching my mom struggle until she met my step dad, it would have been a no-brainer to do the thing that would help her, even if she weren’t pushing me to it… especially if I thought some of the money would go towards a PS3 and a bigger TV lol.

I would’ve figured that I’d make the league anyway, or at least have a degree and get a good job.

I can’t imagine how hard it is for kids that have watched their families struggle AND have relatives in their ear about the money.

On Lucky Lefty yesterday Shawn said that ND was in a good spot with Love
He’s pretty plugged in with the STL kids (Gray, Love, M’Pemba). I remember when people were freaking out because Gray to LSU was apparently getting momentum and Shaun laughed it off and said he was going to wind up at ND.

Gray to LSU was gaining momentum at one point per Christian Gray himself lol. Every pay site not just Shaun said ND remained confident. Just as every site is confident in Love right now. ISD it’d say is even the most confident in their manner of speaking from what I’ve seen.

Man this is going to be a good month, looking like 5 commits are likely just in the 23 class not including any QB

Who?

JA, Minich, Edwards…

Only other name I can come up with is Hanafin. That’s 4. Who am I missing?

Ausberry it’d be confident on as well as Minich. Edwards I kinda missed over the weekend but I assume reason they be confident on. It’d be cautiously optimistic on Love and hopeful on Hanafin.

Edwards has had 10 CBs to ND since Friday. Multiple sites have been dropping hints that ND is in a good spot for Love. Loy and Driskell are confident in Hanafin recently
I think ISD not making a prediction is big. They tend to now make one if someone went with a silent commit before an announcement

IF we add JA, Hanafin, Minich, Edwards, Love, and a good QB like Minchey, that would certainly soften the blow for losing Keeley and Bowen.

Without a QB those 5 names would put us at 284.

A caveat is sadly that’s still lower than where we sit currently at 285. Bama is already at 289. If we lose those 2 guys, we will never make up for it without gods intervention.
And the best class since Lou. That context is important.

Why is everyone assuming we loose both Keeley and Bowen. Not a chance we loose both. There has been recent Intel from IB coming out of this weekend that we are still in a solid spot with both of these guys. Everyone is acting like both are gone

Because despite the fact that history has proven it to be most prudent to follow a recruit's actions, people still hang on the every word of beat reporters whose livelihoods depend on our dime to make us feel better about the situation.

Look at what Bowen and Keeley are doing, not what their mommies are saying. Some folks around here will point to examples such as Tillery, Tuitt, Lynch as reasons why neither are going to flip, but I would suggest that we shouldn't be taking comfort in the exceptions to the rule.

Its just crazy to take two committed kids out of the class calculation when neither as decommitted and there is recent intel that they do not plan to decommit. ND remains confident in their commitments. Until that changes I don't think you should assume we are loosing both and remove them from where this class will finish.
I wouldn't necessarily say ND feels confident in their commitments, but the staff is prepared to continue fighting for them and so long as they are committed to ND, we have the lead.

With the reality of NIL in the college football landscape, coaches literally need to treat any verbal commitment as a non-commitment, and recruit them until pen is put to paper. It sucks, but that's the truth.

I agree, but this has actually been true for a very long time now. At least for me. Everything means nothing outside of pen to paper.

I think it's good that we have a staff now that seems to do just that.

If we keep the two we are worried about and add: Ausberry, Edwards, Minich, Love, Hanafin, and Mincey, we would finish at 297. Crazier shit has happened. It would be an ND Bama battle for the top spot up to the end. Merry Christmas!
