Where they are at on 23 needs to be your next WR coaches problem as this one is quickly in the Denson/Lyght category on recruiting.

I'm a realist and historically hard on coaches who aren't dogs but I disagree here... or am holding final judgement till later.

This is starting to remind me of '20 OL recruiting. I know it wasn't Quinn's decision to take just 2 because he ended up chasing 2 studs at the end. I'm 80% convinced this is a staff problem.

Sorry, On top of Walker of course.

With Brunelle leaving and the possibility of someone else unexpected leaving or not being asked back, who knows what they're thinking.

Can't say I love where ND is with '23 WR's either so I'd turn over every stone on '22.

This is off topic but Brunelle, anyone heard more to that? Doesn’t have a home yet as most summer classes and workouts have begun. I wonder if there is more to the transfer or any shot of a return

I agree with you. I am holding over a grudge from last cycle when Colzie didn’t know del’s name when he decomitted and when they stopped fighting it out of Thornton because they had there three receivers.

Adding to my last post here - Beau hits on what I think is most important: if the staff wasn’t surprised and knew then this probably isn’t that big of a deal. It’s only a bigger deal to us because of the info we were given.

I’m thinking it probably WAS a surprise for the staff, since it sounds like Oregon didn’t think they had him in the bag, and since the ND sources all seemed to feel good (which usually comes from the coaching staff). And that’s a problem, because the offensive staff is misreading where they stand and/or failing to close when they feel good, and that’s baaaad when you’re talking about closing the gap with the top 3.

BK talks a big game about needing to step up recruiting to win a championship, and Freeman/Elston answer that on the defensive side… Rees/BK/??? better figure their shit out on the opposite side, or your elite defense is going to keep the big games closer, but you’re still gonna lose them because you don’t have enough horses to score points.

This.

This isn’t an isolated incident and it’s not happening on defense. Clearly the offensive staff is misreading these.

I think it’s not only possible, but probable. The only additional “ninja” I can think of would possibly be Moore.

Welp that’s as big a boner killer as hearing a lady fart followed by a grunt and a flush. June maybe not a bust but kind of a bust light

Let's judge the class after signing day. There is a long way to go until December. Remember Khari Gee came knocking last year late.

There’s a reason our defensive recruiting is flourishing and the offensive isn’t. Our defense has been lights out on the field the last four years and our offense hasn’t. Our defensive coaches are much better than our offensive.

However, I’m not ready to say that we’re in trouble on the offensive side of the ball. We’ve still got three receivers we’re in great shape for. And if I recall last year, we had recruits reach out to us during the year because of the season we had. Winning cures all. We could have something similar happen this year as well.

Yea, but like you mentioned, the Oregon insiders also thought he was all Irish so the kid had a lot of people fooled then if that's the case. I think it was Matt Freeman who said, "well, that's recruiting for ya."

To me Singleton's recruitment is trickier than Anderson's. If I recall Singleton was close to committing on his visit, but didn't because he was advised to take his visits. Is that on ND or him?

As far as WR recruiting the 2021 class is Kelly's best and if our veteran WR's cannot step up this year and have a Boykin, Claypool, or McKinley year then step up Colzie, Styles, and Thomas. What can we say about the 2020 class: is JJ overrated? Why is Watts not climbing the ladder? How big of a loss is Brunelle?
For the 2022 class who do we feel most confident in ND getting? At this moment I would say Williams- however he is attached to the academic story and Stanford is in included.

The development of the 2021 class is very important.

With what the paid sites are saying...let's remember they are writing about 17 year old kids.

Loy's comments were that Singleton was not part of the 6 and Anderson was. So that means we have Keeley, Vernon, Bellamy, Sneed, and ?

My guess would be Pope. If we put together Loy's comments that there was a recruit that requested they remove a CB of their decision. We know Witlfong removed Pope's CB. And, Matt Freeman yesterday called the next 3 commits to be Bellamy, Sneed, and Pope. Unless the intel from the defensive staff starts turning up shite, then I think we can feel good about that. In general, that's an insane group of commits with. It just so happens that the offensive literally has a GT OL and Ashton Craig to show for it. It's gotta be rough in any recruiting staff meetings right now.

Something I've never thought about: Are Loy's ninjas base on what Kearney/Peloquin are feeding him, on who has told them they are committing and 247 is building their announcement packages or a combo of both?

I guess I always assumed it was the players had told 247 they were coming and gave them the pictures/interviews/411 to build their announcement packages. Why stick your neck out when 99% of the players tell you before hand.

Well, if you're waiting for them to tell you directly then it's probably safe to assume your competitors are also being told. So the way to be the reporter out in front is by making some inferences of your own.

Singer called suggesting Anderson was a silent “incredibly incorrect” and Singleton and Anderson as neither being ones the staff felt were silently committed.

So someone somewhere is mischaracterizing/wrong/misread whatever you want to call it

I don't know who it is specifically but there is someone within ND that communicates with reporters. I would assume it's probably multiple people, actually. But to answer your question, I would also assume that both will inform him on these items. Loy seems to do a pretty good job of letting his readers if it's coming from the prospects camp or ND's side of things.

I know what a silent commit is, but what is a "ninja" commit?

With Anderson & Singleton-- seems like we are playing a he said/she said game where there was some wrong information put out.

It's just Loy's term for silent commits. It all started with posting ninja gifs when commits occurred.

Didn’t know he was Rodney Anderson’s little brother. We probably lose here if alternate history has him commit to ND but OU still lose Burden anyways.

Bold move to go to OU and compete for catches with like 15 five-star WRs.
