If this isn't the best example I've ever seen of how horrible journalism has gotten thanks to blog proliferation then I don't know what is: Notre Dame Lost Recruit Jamel James To Texas State? | The Big Lead

Will journalism ever get better? Does there need to be more strict libel laws like what other countries have to prevent things like Deadpsin's Te'o reporting? Is it better or worse that we have more sources for news than ever before? Discuss.

Even the message boards called out the article and they still defend themselves. Good job on the research dumb***.

My first job after leaving the Navy was as an editor for a medium-market newspaper. I grew up with a great deal of respect for the role of the press in our society, but in the few short years I worked there I watched the editorial staff choose news to run based on advertisers and political views. I realized that unbiased, down the middle journalism was becoming a thing of the past. It has gone so much worse since those days and I have never regretted for a moment leaving journalism.

I was going to send him a very "heated" tweet....but then just decided it is what it is. Sadly, anyone with a blog nowadays can reach millions. I still feel the educated people(mostly everyone on this board) can cut through such B.S. The people that will use it as ND hate fuel, are people I don't care to talk sports with anyways.

Can you quote the article, I'd rather not click it?

Hahaha. I just posted in his thread yesterday something similar to this:

The good news is if there is something really off with this kid, ESPN will use "former ND commit" instead of "Texas State commit."

Sure:

The Fighting Irish weren’t relevant enough for one recruit. Jamel James, a three-star running back out of Katy Texas, decommitted from Notre Dame in December. Two days ago, he opted to stay closer to home, by signing with Texas State, the team that went 4-8 and just joined FBS. This is far more shocking than when Notre Dame lost committed wide receiver Deontay Greenberry to Houston on Signing Day.

James had committed to Notre Dame in June, after decommitting from Arkansas when Bobby Petrino was fired. He was expected to pursue offers from Washington and Arizona State, among others. That’s certainly an interesting decision. [Update: A lot of message board noise about grades, though it seems odd that Notre Dame would take a flier on a kid who was in doubt to qualify.

It's just so many levels of wrong. "More shocking than Greenberry" when in all actuality EVERYONE knew James wasn't going to be part of the class WEEKS before he decommitted.

He at least had the sense to recently make a little "update" but even that is just insane amounts of hedging and refusal to admit he's an idiot.

More sources of news is a great thing. Half of the real news wouldn't be on the major networks or major outlets.

The issue is having people more intelligent to be able to discern actual real information over fake sensational bullcrap.

Obvious agreement on the subject-and this. Yesterday watching Tiger bring it home again Flado faldo is actually happy to see him struggle and suggesting that he has demons. Its beginning to sound like 9th grade girls popping gum and gossiping. No note of slow play and cold weather etc just that the player has swing faults-dont we all. On Flado's best day he couldnt hold Tigers jock. All this today revolves around the news cycle and (really) they have nothing else to do and very little to offer that is newsworthy-so they twist/embellish/suggest/taunt. One guy today said he would be surpried if Woods hasnt taken PEDs. C'mon man get a life.
