Parker threw out what worked with the Rees offense and implemented a bunch of bullshit. The dude sat Estime on the final drive against OSU after he rattled off a 10 yard run and OSU's defense was gassed...instead threw a damn screen pass which was not our strong suit and it stopped the clock.
That screen was gonna be a TD if Tuimoloau didn't tip the pass.

We get the win if we run the ball. For one, OSU wanted nothing to do with Estime at the end of that game. Second, since we ran the screen (Which we never ran) the dropped pass stopped the clock, OSU got to save a timeout. That timeout bailed them out on the last drive when they had an intentional grounding penalty, they were able to avoid the 10 second run off. The next play was 3rd and 19 and we stopped them at the 1. It would have ended of game had they not had that timeout.

[EDIT] Rewatched the play. Even if the ball doesn't get tipped, there were two OSU defenders there and Eichenberg was also in the vicinity to make a play. If we managed to get past them we DID have blockers down the field, but it likely doesn't get that far.

It was 2nd and 15 because Hartman turned the wrong way on 1st down. If you run the ball twice it's very unlikely you get the first. On the other hand, if you do convert it's game over. It was the right call to do something of that sort, maybe a different play call would've worked better.

Feed Estime.... had we done it more prior to the last drive, were not worried about the last drive. Had we done it the last drive, he would have led us to a hell of a win

The sack didn't matter. Again, if we run the ball instead of running the screen then OSU has to use their last TO. Instead we gave them a free one. Next drive with 15 seconds left they get a penalty for intentional grounding, which would have been a 10 second runoff but they had the timeout left. With no timeout it goes to 5 seconds. On the next play, 3rd and 19, they throw the pass and we stop them at the 1. The play took 6 seconds to run. Game over, Irish win.

The heck it didn’t, the goal is to get a 1st down and end the game not make them burn their last timeout but still get the ball. Your play call on 2nd and 15 should be different than your play call on 2nd and 7 in that situation.

Incorrect. The goal is to have the most points when time reaches 0.

The sack sucked, but we still win the game if we just run the ball instead of pass. Try following this again: the sack prompted OSU to burn their 2nd timeout leaving 1. Next play we drop the screen pass, so no reason for OSU to burn their last timeout since we stopped the clock for them. If we run on that play instead of pass it forces OSU to burn their last timeout. They then have no way to avoid the 10 second run off for intentional grounding with 15 seconds left to play (Thereby reducing the clock to 5 seconds). The next play was the bomb where we tackled the receiver at the 1 yard line, it was a 6 second play. Clock runs out, we win.

The sack was irrelevant, we still win the game if Parker just ran the ball instead of taking the risky gamble.

I followed it the first time, but you're missing my point. There is no guarantee that exact sequence occurs for OSU when we make the play call. Playcalls are made before you know how much time OSU will take on each play. Who's to say that if they don't have a timeout they don't make different playcalls to better utilize that time? They may have scored anyways. The point is that within the context of that series, the sack was meaningful and the goal on 2nd and 15 was to get a first down or close to it to seal the game.

Then it goes two ways. Maybe Golden calls a different defense, maybe they don't allow the huge bomb on 3rd and 19. Maybe they don't give up the 4th and 7 play to Fleming. Maybe we get the interception this time to seal the win. Maybe we actually have 11 guys on the field at the end. That's too many moving parts.

Or, you run the right play and you don't throw the stupid screen, something that wasn't part of our bread and butter which means you have a lower chance of execution. Bottom line, you don't kill the clock for the other team when you're up late in the game, you run the clock out. That's all we had to do and we win. They hand the ball to Estime on that last drive and we probably get a 1st down, but even if he doesn't then it forces OSU to use all the timeouts, game over.

Panthers just ran Mitchapalooza with him.

Pretty solid rookie year for him
It's such an effective play and seems like an easy answer for Denbrock's short yardage conundrum this year.

I get not wanting to risk Carr to injury or him not having a feel for it being a shotgun qb. But one would think ND has someone on the roster that can get under center and find a crease. Aneyas, Kedron, Flanigan, Burnham (played qb in hs), Larsen or Premer. Would love to see it.

I’m voting for Flanagan. If he’s a anything like his dad he’ll have a burst
