That's surprising to me, ND doesn't handle recruitments like that very often, if ever. Even though we were in a good place with some heavy hitters like Tengwall, Spindler, Milum, they clearly weren't done deals. I don't miss Crippen, but it's not like he's a shit prospect.

I'm here too. I can name 20 NFL OG's who were lesser HS prospects compared to Crippen.

And to be clear, the above info comes from a paid site analyst via Crippen. Could there be more to it than ND thougt they had a full group of A listers on tap and IF they swung & missed on any of them, they had a Coogan or two in their backyard?? Yes.

This is recruiting in 2020. Commitment means nothing more than a clickable moment for the recruiting industry... which in turn is a branding moment for program.

Them slowing down on Crippen had little to do with other prospects.

Can this really make it until the fall like he said in interviews?

I don't see it.

In today's SBT article Coogan was quoted, "I also like other schools. I have opportunities to go to other great schools that I visited earlier, and they offered me earlier. I can't just disrespect programs by saying 'See ya, Notre Dame just offered me to those schools."

ND may have been late to the party on this one.

So, then that would mean OSU was as well.

Yeah lol we weren't late. He doesn't need to pass on ND just because we offered 10 months before signing day and they offered 12. Just a respectful thing to say to reporters.

I don't think ND is late to the party. May have been late if they were expecting an instant commitment, but we don't usually encourage that anyways.

Kid will take his time and be respectful to teams that have been recruiting him harder, longer. I respect that, and it's honestly really smart. Maybe he needs to see where he fits in this class still, how bad do our coaches want him here, etc.

I think if you look back , there was an article written that Tommy Rees told him that if either Spindler or Langwell didn't choose ND that he would be their next call. So , for that ND has been honest and straight forward with him. That was months ago.
Okie , LSU offers came in today. He seems like a kid with his head on his shoulders trying to take it all in. I agree with a previous post that he is being respectful with other staffs and figuring it out where he fits in with all these schools. I think ND is still very high on his list.

I have no idea how good he is. His ratings are low but his offers are respectable.

He's listed at 6'5" so we can assume he's more like 6'3". He seems to smother people in his HS film but it doesn't look like the competition is great, and he might just be the biggest kid out there.

I have no idea on this one.

I'd say an OL from IL getting offers from OSU, LSU, Oklahoma, and A&M is more than respectable. He's a national recruit now. Grossly underrated and I'm glad the staff went in on this when they did. Could've been sooner but at least they were consistent.

Coogan competition

Coogan competition

Marist plays in the highest level 8A in Illinois. Marist beat defending 8A champion Loyola Academy twice last year, both at Loyola. They play a lot of tough Chicago Catholic League teams.

The two things I like about Coogan’s film was his athleticism and his mean streak. I feel this is a guy by year 3 will be a player. He’s the type of of player that if he went to Northwestern he would be all Big10.
Tengwell on the other hand is big. Doesn’t move really well but can look good against kids 100lbs lighter. I would prefer Coogan over Tengwell any day, ratings be damned.

Coogan's mobility is really striking, IMO. Watching him run down the field and make an open field tackle on ST's says it all for me. And, when on offense, he always seems to have a wide/solid base when making blocks in space.

He's 6-4, Zack Martin's 6-4. Chris Watt's 6-3. 6-4 is the average NFL OG.

Competition is very good. Played 3 Top 100ish teams last season. Lost to the 8A state champs in the Semifinals. Played both 7A state finalists. Played 2018's 8A champs twice. There SOS for a HS team is elite.

And this is a good place to put this, Chicagoland football is about to BLOW UP. Marist (like a lot of Southside Catholic schools) is loaded with underclass talent. ND will be a player for '22 OL Deuce McGuire and '23 WR Carnell Tate. Remember those names and you can put a CB in for McGuire right now..

Sorry, didn't see this when I was responded to Koon, your're exactly right and the schedule is only getting more talented for the '20 & '21 seasons.

I'm not saying he won't b a 3 year player but that will be difficult for anyone in the post Banks/Kraemer era. The most important part is he's the kind of guy who understands what ND OL play is all about and it's been his school his entire life. Sitting for 3 years and starting his 4th/5th could be a perfect scenario.

I think Tengwall a chance to be a very special OG. He's mobile enough to play OT, especially RT at his bulk but sliding inside at his size puts his floor thru the roof for me. As a prospect, I think he's the best bet to be the Q-ish. Regardless of Tengwall, Coogan is still a guy you want in EVERY class your are taking 3-4 OL in.

That play says a thousand words.

If he doesn't commit before then I think he commits to ND on his OV.

As long as Corona doesn't get in the way, I'll bet the farm he commits that weekend.
I'm glad it worked out when it did and din't drag out because I believe he would have gone to Stanford if it got to the poiint of Corona forcing people to commit. Stanford's OL coach Kevin Carberry is a young guy, went to St Rita and grew up nearby.
