Why would a QB want to come to a school with no WRs?
I was assured on this very website that Leonard has noodles for arms. Why would he be worried about who is failing to get separation 20 yards past how far he can throw.

All the paysites are extremely confident except ISD
It's pretty clear that ISD, particularly Matt Freeman, has no problem sitting on things/helping be a mouthpiece for players/sources. I could see them pushing "unsure" so it doesnt seem too obvious there's been contact prior to Leonard entering the portal

It doesn’t matter with Leonard, his HC left, which makes him immediately available.

I think the point is that if he's immediately linked to Notre Dame and only to Notre Dame, it would imply that we were talking with him before he entered the portal, not so much about why he entered this week instead of next.

He's immediately able to enter the portal, but the optics of everyone affiliated with Duke/ND claiming its a done deal as soon as he enters the portal isn't great. Matt Freeman has had no problems echoing "uncertainty" in these cases. He did the same thing last year with Hartman.

Riley Leonard might not be a done deal, but ISD always is conservative with these things, I won't freak out unless we start seeing other reports.

I think Hartman, who is close with Leonard (remember after the Duke game), has said publicly he speaks with Leonard weekly & tells him about his experience as a transfer to ND and how great it is.
So Hartman has been open about promoting ND to Leonard for months.

No arguments there, but this has nothing to do with my point about ISD/Matt Freeman being willing mouthpieces in the past & my subsequent skepticism of their recent reporting.

I heard Prister & Sampson shoot that down when asked if that played a significant role. They were basically laughing sarcastically knowing that fans saw Sam waiting for Riley after the game to talk to him and drawing conclusions but saying “that’s not how it works”. LOL

What’s kinda silly though is that it is — in small part — exactly how it works. Sam loving his time at ND while raising his national profile and making a bunch of money goes a long way. These guys all talk to each other. If he was out there saying “it sucked and the coaches don’t know what they’re doing and I wish I went somewhere else” it would have a very negative effect. Him saying the opposite doesn’t move the needle relative to other aspects like NIL, etc. but it absolutely is a large part of the equation.

So not to criticize Sampson/Prister, but it’s naive to think that Hartman vouching for the situation at ND isn’t an important factor.

I wouldn’t read too much into the injury tent thing but if they are indeed friends who talk regularly - which seems quite plausible - why wouldn’t Hartman’s opinion of Notre Dame matter to Leonard?

If I’m thinking about a new job and I’m friends with the person who had it previously, of course I’m going to sound them out about it.

Right, My point was Prister/Sampson being so dismissive of Hartman/Leonard w/ the injury tent moment being the main thrust. I enjoy their insight but they, like the entire ND beat; have proven they really don’t know that much more about what’s going on than the fanbase. Prister admitted the WR Coach firing was out of left field. I understand they get frustrated w/ fans irrational rants/thoughts…that would get tiresome. But now that they have bigger platforms, they open themselves up to being seen as condescending when they shoot from the hip. That’s fine but don’t complain when someone calls them that.

They must not be on high on Malachi Nelson.
I would think this seasons disaster might have him feeling like he needs a seasoned QB for next season versus going with developing the “next” Lincoln Riley QB.

If they win 11-12 games, PAC-12 champs, Caleb Williams is in New York he might use that goodwill to develop the young guy.
