I've seen some talk that PFF wasn't in love with him. I'm also not sure if ND could afford him.
Also on a visit to Mississippi State is a huge red flag that maybe this is not a guy who would be a good cultural fit at ND. I may be wrong but that doesn’t exactly scream “has any interest in seeing the inside of a classroom.”

Moral of the story seems to be that we need to tamper the portal better and get the first visit. Lesson learned.
Yes, the moral of the story is that words are worth nothing and you need to be focused on getting dry ink on a piece of paper.... or pixels on a docusign or whatever... the consternation is mainly over the guys who are paid a lot of money to handle this stuff being "surprised" at how fast things moved; the $$ being thrown around; and not getting a crack at some guys who said they were "very interested". They expected it to be more like traditional recruiting than MLB hot stove, which is a lesson learned.

At the end of the day, they are in scramble mode now, but they still have a half dozen guys currently on campus and are more-likely-than-not going to come out on the right end of all of this.

Nope. The moral of the story, if there is one, is that schools are built differently and some are more reliant/desperate on the portal than others.

Tampering? 1 week ago K. Minchey agreed to a 2m dollar deal with Nebraska. He's now heading to Kentucky after their new HC offered 3m. Nebraska tampered earlier and better than Kentucky and in the end it didn't mean a damn thing.

1st visit doesn't matter. The highest bidder usually gets the 1st visit. There's really no point in further visits because 99% of these signings are about the money.

Do you think Ian Strong choose Cal over ND because he thought the former had a better shot at the NC?

Nope, Cal was more desperate and they offered more money. That's why he signed with them and didn't bother to visit ND.

Wilson is going to get absolutely paid by someone seeking a mercenary lol. Have to imagine Mizzou is livid.

Considering UGAs absolutely awful pass rush, back there would be hilarious

I wonder if there’s going to be a wave of new portal entrants due to guys seeing how much money other players are getting?
That’s been my thought. With every mercenary you sign your retention costs have to go up or you’re gonna have a shitty locker room.

I think with the portal there's nuances with each team/players. There's going to be guys like KK Smith who enter in order to get playing time, there's guys like Marsh/Coleman who enter because they know they can capitalize on their demand, and then there's going to be guys who have been contacted by teams and incentivize to enter and test the market. Same goes with teams and their approach. You got teams like Tech and Indiana who have to replenish their talent through the portal, who are going to be ultra aggressive early because they can't sit around and wait. Then there's teams like ND, GA, and OSU who are looking to supplement their roster with the best available players for their particular needs. That's why we should let it play out and judge the end result.

Unless another significant group comes out, there prices might be lower.

Next year though I think people will come out earlier to try a drive up the value.

I love Texas going with the moral high ground approach since they don’t pay Arch rev share money

The portal rich might keep getting richer (if he commits on the spot tomorrow)
