ND will not be getting a transfer QB for 2027. I guarantee it.
Well they better be blowing out teams this season and allowing the backup to throw alot and develop in real games because otherwise I can see them for 1 season going to the transfer route.

Do you think he’s good enough to keep us out of the portal for a QB?
Personally, without any inside intel, I think you will be fine at QB without needing a transfer. You have 3 quality scholarship guys to compete, one of them will be an upper classmen in Hebert who will have been in the system for his third offseason, along with Grubbs and Jarrard.

It definitely seems like Jarrard has the highest ceiling based on early camp reports so I wouldn't be surprised if he won the job as a Sophomore. He starts for two years, minimum, and Champ is waiting in the wings. (this is assuming Carr is drafted top 10 next year and declares).

Either way, future of the QB position sure seems bright. No transfers necessary.

I'm going to speak CJ for four years into existence.

Even if we win it all, the only thing that cements a legacy more than one championship is back to back.

If the team stumbles in the playoffs, he's certainly coming back. Imagine him with Graham, Fitz, and Porter year two?

Malik Washington, CJ Bailey, Pitt qb
If CJ Bailey was going to leave Raleigh I feel as though it would've been this offseason.

They have even more of a cupcake schedule than we do and could seriously compete for the ACC title game. If he is transferring next year, seems like something went horribly wrong for him and the squad.

If ND would need a portal QB in 2027, they'd be crazy to not get one in 2026 when the 2nd string is straight out of HS.

I mean, tbf Hebert is still there, it just sounds like Jarrard is ahead of schedule. Not necessarily a bad thing.

It's not like they went into fall camp planning on a true freshman being the number two and purposely ignoring a potential portal backup. I honestly believe that they like the guys in the room. Simple as that.

If they liked Hebert, I doubt they ask/encourage Jarrard to come in a year early.

Totally different caliber of QB youd be looking at in my opinion. Had they taken a guy this year it would have been someone similar to Drew Pyne, can keep the lights on in an emergency but otherwise not gonna light the world on fire. 2027 they would be going big game hunting for a stud if they think it would be the final piece to another title run/not comfortable with Teddy or Grubbs quite yet.

I am of the opinion they pass on the portal unless someone totally unexpected wants to come.

If they took a portal QB this year, like Hen said it would have been some Pyne type veteran with like MAC-level experience who could take some snaps if Carr got hurt. Not a bad idea, IMO, but they didn't go that route (probably a sign they're comfortable enough with at least Hebert in an emergency).

Taking a younger stud would have just competed with the two freshman to be QB of the future, and why do that now when you can wait a year and see how everyone develops?

Or... they know Carr's coming back for '27...

I'm assuming that was more Jarrard that ND staff "asking" him to. We already had Grubbs. Jarrard is definitely the best of the bunch, I'm just saying that they have options. Point being, I really don't see the need for a transfer anytime soon.

There are only 2 ways Carr comes back in 2027:

1.) 2026 is a flop, or

2.) Notre Dame pays him over $10M to stay.

I dunno. Dante Moore came back to Oregon. Things happen.

This QB class is absolutely loaded, and there is a threshold in the draft at which it could make sense for Carr to come back. I'm not sure exactly what it is, but Carr could have a very good season (not a flop) and still project as, say, a bottom-half-of-the-first-round pick. In which case maybe we make it worth his while to stick around, improve his stock, and go higher the year after. Who knows.

Duke's ACC-championship winning QB transferred this offseason. It's not a wild theory in the least, even if NC State is good this year (and they won't be, because Dave Doeren sucks).

Think it's a moot point, though; if Bailey transfers, I'd be stunned if he ends up anywhere else besides Coral Gables.

If NFL teams think Carr is worth a first round pick, he should absolutely go. It won’t matter how loaded the class is. Carr could be ranked the 6th or 7th best QB in the draft class, but he could still go in the first round.

Look at all the dog shit QBs that have been drafted in the first round in recent years: Anthony Richardson, Kenny Pickett, JJ McCarthy, Trey Lance, Mitch Trubisky, etc. That is how desperate NFL teams are when trying to find a franchise QB.

Cam Ward’s rookie deal is $32 million more than Dart. What do you mean it doesn’t matter if he’s the 1st or 7th QB lol

They were 7-5 and that "championship" was an absolute mockery.

To your second point, if the "U" wants to keep playing that revolving door transfer game, good for them. We did it with varied success, but I'm much happier with our current depth chart and Champ on the way.

#4 pick makes $51 million over four years.
#24 pick makes $19 milllion.
They're both first round picks.

If Carr's a top 10 pick, I agree with you. And I hope he's successful enough that he will be. But if - for whatever reason - he's looking more like 20th? Why not stay, pocket the $5 million or more he'd make in NIL, and climb the draft chart in a less-crowded QB class next year? It's the sort of move that could pay off in the long run.

Because he'd be throwing away a 100% guaranteed contract (at least I think it is fully guaranteed). I'd be as happy as anyone on here if he had a great 2026 and came back for another year, but I just think it'd be a very risky play to turn down a guaranteed contract because weird things happen. Just ask Jaylon Smith.

I'm also fully expecting ND to pursue a transfer QB this offseason if Carr heads to the NFL early.
I am in wait and see mode. Depends on what they think of Teddy’s development. Furthermore, how does Monds develop and do they want to have him compete for 28 job? A transfer could make it teddy v monds in 28. I also expect our o to return a lot next year

On a semi related note, I think there are 9 quarterbacks that have a realistic shot at getting drafted in the first round next year. I wouldn't necessarily draft them in the first round, but I could see a team doing it.

Known bag chaser Dante Moore just came back when he couldn’t been a top 10 pick. NIL has changed the dynamics. I wonder if things return to how they used to be, where it was actually a decision for top guys to either stay or go
