Miami is within range where head to head will come into play. We’re in a bit of trouble

You can say nothing has changed but Miami has jumped two teams based off nothing since the initial ranking. Something has changed.
So you think if Miami get up to 10, they will now jump ND to 9 just because H2H?

Miami has moved up 9 spots without doing anything to deserve that movement. Them jumping Vandy and Utah are both especially egregious. You can feel this moving in slow motion for weeks at this point. There is a real groundswell for them to jump ND. This feels like it’s going to happen

BYU and Alabama will jump us with wins or drop with losses. They will not be static after Week 14
Okay? Bama and BYU loses, ND could fall to 10 seed. Not end of the world. What could be even more likely is that Bama still gets in over Miami.

If they’re within range, why didn’t it already? They clearly still think Miami is less deserving than us, and I don’t understand what would materially change unless they absolutely slaughter Pitt substantially more than we did.

We're talking in CCGs here? If BYU doesn't win the Big 12 they're out. They don't have the resume for an at-large. If Bama loses the SEC CCG, it comes down to them vs. Miami for the last spot.
The risk remains, like it always has, BYU beating TTU in the Big 12 championship, and Bama winning the SEC.

College football is a funny sport.

We’re one missed holding call from debating if ND or UGA deserves the last bye as a 4-seed.

We’re also two doomsday-scenario weekends from the Power 5 collective putting the screws to the committee over ND’s independence and leaving ND out as the easiest decision.

I still don’t think ND gets left out, regardless…

But Miami and Michigan moving up for no reason means someone is throwing enough of a fit behind the scenes to get some movement. That’s troubling. (And I’m the guy that always says don’t get worked up about any rankings except the final rankings lol)

Only way possible we are not in is obviously with a loss or a close win Saturday at this point. Committee isn't going to change their opinion of us after holding us in high regard for a month

Also, if you look historically at the CFP playoff rankings they mirror old BCS computer poll models pretty closely. Those computer models have ND as the best 2 loss team.

The fact that Miami is moving up yet still not jumping us with H2H indicates to me that the committee has made up their mind regarding our respective positions. Unless we look like shit against Stanford and Miami trounces Pitt, no new evidence will emerge to change that.

A lot of bed wetting going on in this thread then Dinich was like "yeah they're already in the same tier and the committee just thinks ND is better, period."
This is my understanding. They were compared this week. In theory, if they were to jump us, it would have been this week

And I believe we are on the same tier finally. So they used that formula and I still ranked a higher. We need to crush Stanford.

Miami is now in our "tier" at 12. Dinich explained that there's no magical ranking Miami needs to get to activate the H2H Protocol or anything. Miami is already in our tier now and they view ND as the better team.

Absolutely is possible. A Michigan win or BYU winning the big 12 could put us out.

I think like Penn said, it's to give them a shot if things break their way. If Michigan beats Ohio State AND, say, Ole Miss loses to Miss. State. To put Miami in the mix if Bama loses the SEC CCG. So they get the last spot over BYU or Utah or Vandy.
It's not that the fix is in. It's more like the sport tilts a bit to favor big brand names. And you know who else is a big brand name...

-1400 now on DraftKings. Still 93.3% probability.

I continue to believe that the CFP isn’t leaving out the #3 team on FPI. That being said, the Miami movement is somewhat worrisome.

The only real “doomsday” is if shit goes wrong in every possible matchup, and it comes down to ND/Miami for one final at-large spot.

Idk if I already missed this debate on the website, but I’d be pissed if the roles were reversed and head-to-head didn’t mean anything. I was pissed back in 2018 when they were saying that shit about scUM being better than ND late in the year, ignoring head-to-head.

We all know the context of the Miami game, and I think everyone outside of Florida would agree that ND is the better team at this point, and would win a rematch (especially Vegas). But the committee being asked to ignore head-to-head is a TOUGH spot for them.

Pitt over Miami this weekend dries up a lot of beds. If TT and BYU Round 1 were close, I’d be more worried about BYU winning in Round 2. Big 12 are a one team league with TT winning the conference. If Pitt doesn’t win in the cold against Miami, gotta hope the ACC is also a one team league.
