No thank you.
Has coached in college for 10+ years and has never made the second weekend of the tournament, and his ASU program has been on a downward spiral for the past five years.

If we're going to go the college route if Coach Shrews gets fired, my hope is we would give a hungry mid major type coach like Josh Schertz at Saint Louis a hard look.
He has experience in the state with his success at Indian State, and is still young enough at 50 to want to be here for a decade plus if he is successful.
He will be losing his star player Robbie Avila after this season, so would be the perfect time for him to jump ship.

He would be my dream hire, but if he goes on a run with St. Louis this March he will be a hot commodity.

Coach Shrews got dealt a bad hand with the Burton injury this year, but sometimes it is best to just realize things aren't meant to be...and it feels like this relationship is obviously at that point.
My dream hire for the program in Tony Bennett. I know he hates NIL and the portal, but this guy could easily get it done at ND.

As an ISU alum…yes please…especially if we can take more undergrad transfers.

Well yes in a vacuum you couldn't find a better coach for the ND job then Tony Bennett from the college ranks over the past ten years, other then maybe Jay Wright.

He succeeded at a high academic institution, while mostly recruiting players that planned to play college ball for 3-4 years and fit into an established system. I think that is every college basketball fans dream, that doesn't just root for the one and done type bluebloods.

Unfortunately, he is not at all a realistic target for this job and with the apathy from the fan base and student body right now toward the program, it's going to take a real personality that understands they're walking into a multiple year project to want to take this thing on.

That is why I think the only realistic target is a young mid major type coach like Schertz that would believe the Notre Dame job is the pinnacle of thier coaching career.

Bennett quit because he didn’t like the way the sport is evolving. It’s only been a year. Can’t see why that would change. The whole thing is getting worse, not better.

I think if ND moves on from Shewsberry and hits the reset button again it sets this program back even further than when Brey left ND. Who wouldn't transer?

Haralson/Mohammed have been bright spots the past couple of games and I like that 3 freshman- Haralson, Koehler & Frost have been throw out on the court for the cluster F of a fire.

The Burton injury has hurt this team, Certa and Iams haven't stepped up enough and I think with Burton on the court ND pulls out more W's; against the big dog teams likely not.

Am I giving Shrews a pass for this year? No. I think he needs to get some new blood on the coaching staff.

I agree with all of the comments about the basketball commercial- take it off the air.

I'm going to go ahead and say at this point the team would be better off without a coach. Just saying. Can't get worse

There are legitimate 2 or 3 high school teams in my area that could easily take down this team that's how bad they are.

What is there left to say about the season? It's predicable what's going to happen each game, today's game should be a win, but they are at the bottom of the ACC and they will end at the bottom when the season is over.

ND made a great move by hiring Garrity as the basketball GM, an ND guy, and hopefully that hire can get the program moving in a better direction.

Shrews felt like the perfect “quick fix” after the way the Brey era ended. Instead, it’s gotten worse. The Burton injury just hastened what was likely going to be an underwhelming season. Sure, he would’ve made a difference in a few of the close losses, but this team is absorbing too many double digit losses. With NIL & the portal, can he even keep Haralson & the other top rated players at ND?

This is the kind of question I'm referring to when I say Pat and Pete need to be talking with players. You can't really ask that kind of things during the season -- it undermines the coach and creates uncertainty. But they do need to have their fingers on the pulse to understand who may be looking at leaving -- is keeping Shrewsberry a plus or minus in that decision? Is keeping him vital to staying?

A lot of these guys committed to play for Shrewsberry, and everything coming out of the program suggests they like playing for the guy. They may not be getting what they were sold on at this point, but that doesn't mean they are going to stick around for a new guy they have no relationship with.

It's really unfortunate because I absolutely LOVED the basketball team before the football team. When David Rivers was playing. Loved my Irish basketball. I wish I still felt the same but I just don't have that passion anymore with them. I love the football team regardless of course but basketball has taken a way far back seat for me. 😔

Great post and I also think Pat & Pete also need to be talking to Coach Shrews about the direction of the program.

I agree that these kids like playing for Shrews and they committed to Coach Shrews & the program that went 15-18 last season.

For comparison's sake after JJ Starling transferred out of ND it seems like he's been MIA since he's transferred from ND and Syracuse went 14-19 last season.

I would like to see what this freshman class can do along with Mohammed & Certa from the sophomore class.

After the season if the kids are still bought in to what they were sold on you keep Shrews for 1 more year.

Football will always be first for me when it comes to Notre Dame, but this is the first year that my wife & I have taken over my in-laws basketball tickets (they've had them for 40 years) and when we left the Clemson game I didn't see any fight or fun with this team. With Brey we had the burn offense, the road dawgs, the Grant/Connaughton combo, and he pulled out wins he wasn't supposed to get.

I want to see this program succeed and succeed with Coach Shrews...it's just taking more time and patience 😥

Feels like a home loss to this shitty BC team would be the dagger. Awful showing

Pulled it out in the second half. Team needs to start hitting three’s to beat anyone good. Really have no inside game.

Gotta take a win when we can to get to that lucky win window of 14-15 games

Sad part is, if this team hits 15 and Burtons back by stretch run - it’s the best team in the last 4 years …. And 3rd best in the last 8.

The win was ugly- another good game by Haralson and Shrewsberry woke up with 22 points.

Agreed about no inside game Towt can rebound, but I'd like to see more from him on offense.

In foul situations get the ball in Certa's hand, he would've been the perfect player on Brey's teams that would hit free throws.

I'll take an ugly win over another loss.

If we win tonight boys that's called a winning streak.
At this rate we will win by 40.

Irish up 10 with 12 to go in the first.

Looking good, no turnovers and shots are falling. Baby Shrews has been the best player on the team the passed four games.

All shots besides free throws of course.

I’m not optimistic they hold on until the clock hits zero, but I love what I see from Koehler. Loads of potential with him
