Who wants to discuss what's going on here? Who are Loy's two? Piferi & Gabbert?

Rees recently followed some new QB's:

Brian Maurer - 3* FL
Paul Piferi - 3* CA
Brett Gabbert - 3* MO (Miami U Commit - Go Skins!)
Cale Millen - 3* WA (Oregon Commit after a Northwestern Decom)

Was hoping he'd get on Gunner Cruz or Kedon Slovis here in AZ.

Crusaderette chose Slovis' Desert Mtn HS over Jake Smith's Notre Dame Prep for academic reasons (great news for the local craft brewers) so I'll get to see more of Slovis this year as I keep the stink eye on would be suitors. Knew he was the real deal last year and SC confirmed that this week with an offer. Having Kurt Warner as your QB coach and OC has it's bennies.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">There is one quarterback at the top of the board for <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/NotreDame?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#NotreDame</a> and that is Graham Mertz. As previously reported, the staff is expected to drop by his school today. But what if he sticks with Wisconsin? Here are a few other names to know: <a href="https://t.co/OjYQNCfuFq">https://t.co/OjYQNCfuFq</a> (VIP)<a href="https://twitter.com/247Sports?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@247Sports</a> <a href="https://t.co/ehXq1J2bXX">pic.twitter.com/ehXq1J2bXX</a></p>— Tom Loy (@TomLoy247) <a href="https://twitter.com/TomLoy247/status/996743116626505729?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">May 16, 2018</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

At this point just offer bezalek and bivens from alter and call it a day. Both of them can play.

I agree on Bivens. I like him as much as anybody we're being fed from the services and would take his commitment yesterday. With Bazelak, I like him, I think he'd be a very good down year acquisition but I like Cruz, Slovis and Piferi more. Bazelak gets some etra points for being at an ND pipeline and teammates of a high target but OSU isn't gonna move on him so ND has until NSD to get him... as long as they are recruiting him in the correct way, slow but honest. In the end, he may prove to have been the best guy all along for the spot tween 5* Phil and Pyne.

Would still love if Cade renounced his foolish ways and rejoined.... or if Mertz finally realized the opportunity before him and hopped on board.

With PJ on board for 18 and Pyne on Board for 20, I can see how some QB’s seeing the opportunity quite limited.

Yeah but that's bullshit. Good teams pull good QBs every year and let them battle it out. Mertz should join a powerhouse program because that's the skill level he has and he can compete for that starting role.

Nobody thought Reese was likely to be a starting QB for ND.

Nobody thought Kizer was likely to be a starting QB for ND either.

If Mertz comes, nobody here can say we will jump from PJ to Pyne, because we have been down that road before.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Wiscy has won ten or more games in seven of the last nine seasons. We’ve won ten or more games seven times in the last twenty seven seasons. We aren’t really in a position to be big leaguing the Badgers.

Actually we are because we are still a blue blood and they are still Wisconsin. I'm fully aware of other teams outside of my blue and gold sphere. It's like saying we can't big league Boise State.

Yes, they've been very successful the past decade but they are still Boise State.

I actually respect the hell out of Wisconsin and what they routinely accomplish with less talented rosters.

While I have an affinity for UW, as my sister is an alum and they have some very solid consistency the last 10 years. Those numbers don't tell the whole story of how damn easy their schedules are. in 2016 they were 2-3 versus top 25 teams. One of those wins was against Western Michigan in the Cotton Bowl. Last year, they got to week 10 before playing a ranked opponent. By week 10, ND had played 5 ranked opponents. Respect the program but some context is needed on why they are so "consistent".

All I was saying is that it is a bit ludicrous to call ourselves a powerhouse in comparison to Wisconsin. They rack up successful season after successful season. We haven’t had back to back ten win seasons in close to thirty years. ND is a better destination than Wiscy for a variety of reasons, but recent success on the football field is not necessarily one of them.

Yes, and a large part of that is because they play a pretty weak schedule, for the most part. Again, they went 10 straight weeks to start last year without playing a ranked team. If ND did that, we'd have a lot more 10 win seasons. Instead, on our way to week 10, we played 5 ranked teams and were 3-2. We'd have been 10-0, as well, last year if we played their schedule.

Sounds like ND is getting picky with some DE prospects. In all likelihood, ND will have 4 DL commits come this weekend and will probably need 1-2 more guys. Interesting to see some of the different results with SDE. It seems to me like ND wants a SDE & a WDE with their remaining two spots, but I'm not totally positive...

For the WDE spot, aka DROP, hopefully we get someone on the board on saturday. That would leave the need for one more ideally and someone that's very talented because ND doesn't just need a body for roster space. I don't think ND has a shot for the top portion of the offer list, and I thought I saw a post somewhere where Wete might not be recruited anymore by ND, but I can't confirm that. And then Laiatu Latu & Joshua Pakola are Northern California dudes who sit in Stanford's backyard and are wanted by that staff so that would be a miraculous pull, but I don't see it. That really leaves 5 names, Trice (Elston in to see today), Pearl, DiCosmo (OV in June), Miamen (not too far away), and Mataio Soli from Georgia. Hopefully they get some traction with Trice or maybe someone unknown and unexpected pops up in the next 9 months.

The SDE spot I included a few guys who ND might see as DT, but I listed them as SDE cause I don't want to put them out of mind and then find out ND does in fact see them as a SDE. I know George Karlaftis is looking around, but I think that ship has long since sailed. Also, Joseph Anderson is a no-go, Rodas Johnson had his swing spot taken by Cross, and Marcus Hicks mentioned a Top 8 schools at the Opening in Dallas and ND didn't get mentioned. And, Elston I guess told Reuben we're done with him and is in to see Ty Robinson today. Ideally, ND could get Robinson on campus before using an OV and then again for a game in the fall, but hopefully they get him on campus at some point.

Overall, if things go as planned on Saturday, A++ for Mike Elston & Co in getting 4 4*'s to commit to ND. Then they have 8+ months to try and get two more quality prospects. That's loading up the talent on the Dline and plenty of time to continue to work on your top of the list prospects.

4* Adonis Otey from Tennessee. I hope they gain more traction with Woodi Washington, but he'd be a nice alternative.

I would agree that ND is looking to add 1 at both DE positions on top the 3, hopefully 4, DL we already have.

Will this be a year where we don't get anyone from FL or CA? Seems like TX and GA are doing better now.

Watched both of their films and I like Piferi better. Has PJ body type but not as athletic. Has accuracy but the ball looks like it doesn't have any zing to it. He may just need to get stronger but he has great footwork and stays in the pocket well. I'd take him. He ranks low just because of his offer list but a 6'5 QB.. . . Why not?

From 247 freebie
https://247sports.com/Article/Blue-Devils-Lose-Four-Star-RB-Commit-Zonovan-Knight-118395266

However, last week Knight told TDD that he had picked Duke “because of the great opportunity provided to me - not only to play big time football, but to also receive a great education.” He also offered a hint as to where he his was with regard to continuing the recruiting process when asked how his commitment to the Blue Devils had impacted the contact with other schools.

The schools that had already offered me are still pursuing me, but my being committed has prevented around six other schools from making offers.

Erick All's needed a profile for a while now.

Staff was in Cincy to evaluate him a few weeks ago and Loy wrote him up again with the staff checking in on him again at Fairfield HS. He's a 100+ Sparq and is a really good blocker despite the fact he's built like a classic FLEX/Big WR.

If the staff deosn't close the Deal, expect a quick offer to All the TE

I have him #3 on the OLB board.

Very athletic and I see him as a Rover/Buck... or a John Lynch SS.

A lot to like there, that's for sure. I like the expanding LB board, with personal evals from Lea.

Are they expanding due to what they're losing With Smith committing to Penn State and rumors flying Henrich is a cornhusker and Kiser could be a Boilermaker and Sinclair to Standford?
