If only there were 5 periods in lacrosse...but shouldn't that have been a face off violation after we got it to 10-9??

So close... great year overall. Started out of the gate slow but they ended
strong. No shame in this defeat, the program is getting stronger and we will
be back to take this whole damn thing eventually. Congrats on a great year boys!

I find it impossible to find any fault in a team which performed at second best in the nation levels, and came within a whisker of taking down the giant. Fabulous effort guys.

Welp that's a bummer. Just got into Banff and checked score. The good news? We return basically the entire team minus Sciosia and O'Hara. Epple and Perkovic both seem to be on their way to being stars... Perkovic had an INSANE season for a true frosh midfielder and is not getting enough national credit.

Nothing wrong with losing in the NC. The experience will pay huge dividends next year.

Fantastic year that totally exceeded my expectations. I want to thank the board, especially LAX, for all the great information on ND lacrosse. This team exemplified teamwork and hustle and were really fun to watch, especially from the ACC tourney on....
Until next year..... GO ND LAX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This team will be pretty damn good next year with Kavanaugh, super star Sergio Perkovic and a solid Kelly in net.

Hey LAX,
When will we be able to find out when any fifth year guys come back?

Hey LAX,
When will we be able to find out when any fifth year guys come back?

Probably won't know for sure until it starts getting around fall ball time. From what I've heard, I'm 99.9% sure Marlatt will be back next year. Prevoznik (starting LSM), O'Hara (captain, 1st team AA, starting close D), and John Scioscia (starting attack) all have eligibility remaining, so effectively we could return our entire starting lineup save FOGO Liam O'Connor. I've heard conflicting reports on all three of those guys and whether they're coming back, but O'Hara is still on the collegiate inactive list for his MLL team soooo I'm not sure why he wouldn't have reported if he were planning on going pro and not returning. Even without O'Hara, our D should be pretty nasty next year. Epple is going to be a star, Landis is solid, and there are a number of sophs and incoming frosh who have tremendous talent.

We don't "need" Prevoznik or Scioscia but, again, I don't know why you wouldn't ask them back. A lot of kids choose to move on though as college is expensive and they might have a great job offer lined up. A few years ago Jake Brems was in line to start after being the 4th longpole forever and just decided to move on with his life instead.

Thanks LAX. I figured Marlatt would come back. Interesting about O'Hara. That would be awesome if he chose to come back. As for Prevoznik and Scioscia, the more depth the better so hopefully one or both of them come back too.
My boys and I are on lacrosse withdrawal and we were just curious as to when we might find out who comes back.

Incoming Notre Dame frosh stole the show at the Under Armour All-American game today. Mikey Wynne had 4 goals including the game winner in OT, and was named the MVP. Brendan Collins scored the game tying goal with a minute and change left on a perfectly run fast break. Both should make an immediate impact next year even with all of the returning talent.

Oh, and LSM John Sexton scored a goal with his long pole and goalie Owen Molloy set a record for saves. No small potatoes there either.

This is great info. I was actually just checking in here to ask you how we are doing in recruiting, and this is the kind of stuff that I was looking for! Is there a site that tracks say, the top 100 lacrosse recruits and shows where they are going to school and has profiles similar to football and basketball?

Top 25 Recruiting Classes For 2014

Actually, I found this, but I am not sure of its revere? Looks good though.

Funny you brought this up when you did... tweets same day from our defensive mastermind and recruiting guru on the staff:

ND recruits a rather specific way that has its roots in the days of not being fully funded and so far outside the hotbed areas. First things first, we rarely partake in the super early recruiting craze that some other schools do. For example, UNC and Hopkins already have their classes filled out for 2017... while we just took our first kid for that class. UNC is the king of #1 classes, but hasn't made a final four much less won a championship in decades.

ND focuses on getting kids who are multi-sport athletes with lots of other desirable physical and mental traits over the super highly rated polished lax bros of the world that some other teams target. Think how Stanford recruited for football under Harbaugh versus how Kiffin recruited for USC. For example, Sergio Perkovic was an all-state football player and ended up being the most prolific freshman midfielder in the country... yet he wasn't even ranked in the top 20 of incoming midfielders.

There are, of course, exceptions to this. For example, John Scioscia at 5'6" isn't going to be an all-state football or basketball player. But in general we try to target kids in the mold I outlined above because they tend to be hard workers and have higher upside than kids who hit their ceiling at age 15.

This year's class is probably the best recruiting haul we've ever had and I don't even think it's close. I'll be interested to see where Inside Lacrosse ultimately slots our class but it should be top 5 at minimum. Alex Hurdle is arguably the most athletic defender in the class, John Sexton is the truth at LSM. Owen Molloy could be the next great goalie at ND and may challenge for time this year depending on whether Kelly continues to play how he did at the end of the year. But the real shot in the arm is on offense... Brendan Collins is an instant impact midfielder, and Mikey Wynne might be able to step in and play early as a finisher... and there are a lot of other guys that have tremendous talent. Also, Ryder Garnsey decided to take a post-graduate year before heading to ND. If he had stuck with enrolling this fall, we'd be looking at 3 top 10ish attackmen in the same class... which is unheard of for ND.
