As bad as I hate to admit it, Tommy will start the first game for us.

Mark it down.

But he will be accompanied.

Golson and Hendrix will see quite a few snaps, with one eventually displacing him this year.

This also means a loss due to the situation need.

But I'm no Nastrodamus.

The writing is on the wall, in my humble opinion.

Kelly will defend Rees staying at starting qb saying he has won 14 or however many games. Rees goes on to lose to Stanford, Oklahoma, and usc, nd fans will clutch to irrational hope for the next year, in which Rees will start, and lead us to another mediocre record.

Some players look good in practice but fall apart when under pressure. Others don't shine in practice but withstand and excell under pressure. Joe Montana springs to mind.
I am afraid Rees is the former. We have no way of knowing about the others.

Option #5: Anyone but Rees.

If Rees is the starter this year that means the program is bogging down. If the prevailing thought is to start Rees to weave the path through this torturous schedule and get in someone else next year, you might as well start someone else to see what you have. Last year we had unknown quantities at several positions and Kelly was afraid to start some of the freshman, see Michigan w/Lynch etc.

I could see a Hendrix/Golson package, but I seriously doubt Kiel sets foot on the field this season.

I have this terribly nagging suspicion that Rees is the starter in September.

I think that Tommy will start. I think he could be 4-0 before Oklahoma because he has beat MSU before and hes facing a weaker MSU then last year. Michigen will come down to the wire and it will come down to if Rees can make one more drive LIKE HE DID LAST YEAR and leave it up to the defense which will stop them this year. But I dont think any of our Qbs are going to beat Oklahoma. I think this year is a important year for our defense and then next year we better be fighting for a championship. Hopefully with Tommy

Our D and domination of the line won this game. Notre Dame won this game dispite Turnover Tommy.

Probably after his 2nd pick in the Michigan State game. Then all week the reps will be split. After his center/qb fumbled exchange during the Michigan game, he'll get pulled for Hendrix, and Golson will come in spot duty. After 2 weeks of flawless practicing (bye week) from Golson, he will start the Miami game (with hendrix as the change of pace) and the Rees era will end.

I don't give half a $hit who the QB is, as long as it's not Rees. I have no loyalty to any individual QB. I want a QB who will play well and can lead the TEAM to victory against decent to good defenses, which Rees cannot do, as plainly and disgustingly evidenced against MSU, Pitt, BC, Wake Forest, USC, Stanford, and FSU. I don't understand how anybody can watch a great QB like Jimmy play, or watch any of the other good QBs in college football play, and then watch and defend Rees' performance. I get that he's a smart kid, I get that it's a good story, and I bear him no ill-will. I do believe Brian Kelly made a huge mistake with QB last year and that that mistake is going to hurt us very badly, especially if he starts Rees again.

I'd like to start off by saying I like all of our Student/Athletes and wish nothing but the best for every one of them. They are living a dream I had as a kid.

With that out of the way, I can't help thinking, hoping or wanting Hendrix or Golson to step up and beat out Tommy for the job. Tommy is a great kid but after last year, I don't have a lot of confidence in his ability.

Maybe we will see a new and improved Tommy? I don't know but right now I want some HOPE for this year and hearing Tommy might start just doesn't do it for me.
