2011 Offers!! It can't be!!

Guys,
I am really getting nervous about the offer list from Kelly and clan!! When I look at who we are offering, these appear to be the 4 and 5 star recruits that they elite schools like UF and USC would want. This cannot be true!

I thought that you naysayers and fear mongers promised me that we were going to be chasing 2 and 3 star RKG's because there can't be any 4-star or 5-star RKG's. Kelly was supposed to end our pursuit of these elite talents. ND was going to become a MAC level recruiting school.

Well, based on who we have offered and who we are showing interest, ND will be in the thick of recruiting battle with the likes of UF, USC, UT, OSU and all the other powers in college football. Our recruiting does not appear to be headed down the road of bottom feeders like some had believed.

With this said, you naysayers can start pulling the ruffles out of your skirts and jump on the Kelly train because this dude is going to be the real deal in South Bend. He is a dedicated and motivated coach with proven success at schools with much less resources.

People were (crazily) pointing to Cincinnati and saying that Kelly only pulled in 2 and 3 stars and expecting that all we will get at the end of day is that caliber of player.

Of course, all that matters is who signs next February, not who is offered this February, but I do not expect a big step back in recruiting. Maybe we'll actually be able to consistently develop 4-5 star guys--especially on the defensive side of the ball.

I think a lot of people are going to be pleasantly surprlsed next February 2011. Coach Kelly is going to aggressively recruit all those 4 and 5 star athletes who meet the academic and character aspects to Notre Dame standards...I expect that and I know the majority of you do too. I'm convinced Coach Kelly will make us all proud.

putting any importance on 4 and 5 star recruits in february is absolutely absurd. these recruiting sites are just trying to boost their own popularity and success, when in reality it is VERY difficult to judge a 2-3-4-5 star prospect before that junior has even entered his senior year, let alone summer camp. i do have faith in Kelly and believe he will have a successful carreer at notre dame, but when it comes to his recruiting...stop judging so early. true, pure talent is easy to see early, but with so many factors that contribute to the "potential success" a recruit will have and the time between now and a year from now it isnt worth putting alot of emphasis on...

My point on this thread was the fact that many folks on here and other places like DomerDomain were preparing to jump off the cliff with kelly's early comments about RKG's, not worried about star ratings and offers to 2-3 star kids to fill our class.

These people were convinced that Kelly was sending our recruiting down the drain. I saw people ready to hang Kelly by his short hairs becuase he was not chasing all the 5 star kids with 6 weeks left in the recruiting process.

The reality is that Kelly is going to get the best talent possible. We know that it is hard to judge exactly who is a 3,4 or 5 star this early, but there are definitely kids who stand out and we are going after them.

That being said, look a little closer, over 20% of our offered recruits are from Ohio. The concern with recruiting and the coaching transition was that we dismantled a nation-wide recruiting machine that was built up over time with a lot of hard work. Its one thing to offer kids, its another thing to be able to effectively reach out to them on their turf.

I think Kelly will do well, and I'm sure he will get good recruits. Obviously, the Weis years left things to be desired. And the hiring of Kelly was certainly accompanied by a really stupid hypothetical debate concerning "coaching em up" vs "recruiting" that cast CW in the role of the coach who was the ultimate recruiter and a crappy coach vs BK as the inspirational coach who couldn't recruit worth a damn. Stupid, as Coach Weis was an excellent football coach (he managed to "coach up" at least a few classes) and BK has the personality and work ethic of an excellent recruiter.

Finally, just looking at the front page of Irish Envy, I see only one 5 star recruit. Florida, if I remember right, started 10 5 stars on offense this year. Rankings aren't everything, but if we have decided that ND football should be a BCS/NC contender over 50% of the time (2/5 not being anywhere near good enough) that is the amount of talent we should eventually be gunning for.

Ok, I think I made it pretty clear that I'm not trying to start a debate- there's every reason to believe Kelly will do just fine. But I also said it's easy to offer, the concern is whether we will be able to follow through.

Anyways, way way way too early to say anything about recruits yet...stars will change (and an ND offer will likely push those star ratings up) players will commit, new kids will come out of the woodwork etc...

As they say in this part of the world, In'sha'allah. But I think its a little too early to get out the pom-poms.

HUH! Looking on the main page of this site there are 8 offers from kids in the state of Ohio. As for the thread starter being so condescending. Offering 4 and 5 star prospects is one thing, getting to come is another. Maybe you should of waited until February of 2011 to make such a post like this because as of now you just look like someone who blew their wad a little prematurely..

The point is, there were lots of people on here, ISD, DD, GH, NDNation, etc etc, who were screaming that Kelly was only going to recruit MAC type of players b/c of what he did in 2 MONTHS of recruiting vs winning schools who had built relationships for 2 years. Ludicrous. These people were CONVINCED that this was the way Kelly was going to recruit, which we said at the time was crazy to deal in such absolutes. My whole poitn was let the man do his friggin job, let him start at the same level as the others before you start saying he's going to offer only 2 and 3 star guys.

And it's not even about the stars, b/c we all know that will change. It's about who he is recruiting against. You mention FL, and he's all over that state. He's recruiting against schools like FL, Miami, FL St, Alabama, Ohio St, USC etc etc. Those schools are the top of the top. And based on what recruits said about him in Jan/Feb, the man commands a room and is an excellent salesman.

You're right in that it's early, and he hasn't closed on any of them yet. But it's also time for the guys who said that he wouldn't recruit 4 and 5 star guys to admit (to themselves if anything) that they were wrong, and to let this coach do his job, which IMO he is more than qualified to do and will do an excellent job...

i think alot of the people replying completely missed the point of the OP. hopefully after your post it will get a few more of them to understand. it is amazing how people will be so against a guy like kelly right off the bat with no real reason.

I'm a big Brian Kelly fan...but even I really didn't buy into the "RKG" thing. There's really no need for a cliche to make it seem like the recruiting process is going to change when in reality-ND has been recruiting "the right kind of guys" for quite some time now. You offer a kid based on film,transcripts,and recommendations from area HS coaches....and it seems like Kelly has done a good job of that with 50-60 offers out already.

Ok. I will admit that the original post demolishes a dumb argument. Anybody who seriously thought Kelly would only be recruiting average players was either spectacularly off-base or just arguing for the sake of arguing.
