Here's a collection of posts by different people on BP about this situation. I thought you guys would like to know as well.
osugrad21 said:
When Rodriguez arrived at WVU, he treated a number of Nehlen's kids poorly...told many of the returners that they were only there until his kids learned the system.

Why is anyone surprised the same thing is happening at Michigan?

Rich Rodriguez should be respected for his offensive innovations...however, the respect usually stops right there.
Pat White's comments on ESPN about practice in the post-RR era.
osugrad21 said:
When asked about the changes under Coach Stewart he said there would be much less cursing and he was looking forward to actually being coached instead of being humiliated everyday at practice.

Ouch.
sandgk said:
paraphrasing ...

"Practice is better. It's intense, but we have fun. ... there's a lot less cussing ... and you don't feel bad about yourself if you make a mistake. You get coached"
More on the topic.

I posted this before...and discussed it in PMs. When we talk about cursing, we aren't talking minor stuff. Rich flips out...most of his assistants follow suit.

I laughed the first few times...then it became kind of annoying...then I thought it was tactless.

You can coach hard without humiliating people openly like that.

you guys kill me with your quips as to why boren left the team.

he was going to be first team and the best o lineman they had period!!

no question about that. note all the interviews and the comments about his leadership and the fact he was to be a captain this year.

i saw this on another web site.... boren was the leader and he along with rest of team mates were unhappy by the treatment of rr with all the screaming of obsenities in their faces plus the fact the coaches delighted in demeaning a kid in front of team. like boot camp they were using a get tough camp.

well that tatic might have worked at west virginia but i can tell you its not going over well at michigan.

leaders went to speak to coach about toning it down a bit and were barked at for doing so.

coaches were making their lives miserable. so it wasn't the new plays or the no huddle or the hard weight room lifts. but instead it was the constant belittling of the kids and trying to wear them down is what led to this. how would you like to be yelled at all day with the words Cu. or Pus..or MF...not very classy and not what kids are used to hearing.

food for thought too..........boren left the team and took a parting shot at rr to make sure athletic director would finally have to look into it. he was trying to help his team mates on the way out.

now today i read about rr having a birthday party for kids on team and being a nicer kinder coach in front of fans. so could be boren in the end did help his team mates even though he had to fall on the sword.
And the most damning evidence of things like this going on before is an article in the Columbus Dispatch. Read this quote from there...
Maybe they should take a cue from previous Michigan coach Lloyd Carr, who according to a source close to the situation worked behind the scenes to help Boren obtain his scholarship release from Michigan. Carr even assured Boren that Ohio State is the closest thing to Michigan that he would find and that there are "good people" in Columbus.
Ever since RR got to AA, there has been one problem after another for the scUM program. While every incident can be rationalized away individually, the collective problem that have been faced are indicative of a much more systemic problem in the program.

And finally, one last post.
jwinslow said:
There was a reason Justin made the 'family values' comment, and it was not because of running or not offering his bro (though the tabloid network made sure to post those internet submissions up for all to see). Ask someone who has been to his practices at WVU or UM. Or just take coach osugrad21 or pat white's word for it. The feedback is quite consistent.

The difference lies in the reaction to it. When it's a UM fan whose program desperately needed a change in attitude, there's a lot more latitude given for such tactics.

Some, especially those who once praised him, wish to paint Justin as soft because of it. They'll say whatever they wish, but making those comments publically with a full month left at UM is the last thing someone should do if they can't handle the harassment that ensued.

Leaving a staff you don't respect b/c of their approach and leaving to escape that approach are two very different things.

Kinda makes you wonder if Tenuta's coaching style is beneficial or detrimental? I assume that it must be beneficial looking at his past defenses. What do you guys think?

tenuda does curse but cb is a more personal coach and talks to you. the cw is the guy who will yell at you then sit you down to explain why he yelled at you. to me they seem to have evey kind of enforcer but an understanding and almost nurchering (sp) side. thats why they are "coaches" not just miilion dollar [jerks]. (ie um staff) the great leadsers have people who yell people who talk and some people who console. but all must be able to teach!

Just looking at the videos I have seen of JT coaching and I can see the "coachig" part through out the drills. I do not see the belittling that Boren talked about from all the coaches at scUM.

I think you will notice that he does not belittle people per se...and when they give him effort he is quick to tell them it's a good job. He's not in their face treating them like crap...he's like a running commentary.

Tenuta does have a hot head but it sounds like old dick is on another page entirely.I know in high school a good curse word or two from a pissed off coach could be what was needed to get things going,on the other hand too much of it made you just want to say f_ _ k it.

IrishMarine- I know you have had to deal with plenty of guys like they are talking about w scUM staff. The write up by Boren talks about the whole staff acting like that- no relief from belittling as a teaching style. That would get old. That is also nothing like the ND staff.

He hated all the running and openly complained about it, he wasn't guaranteed a starting position, and his brother wasn't going to get an offer. With a coaching change players either need to embrace it, ride the bench, or move on. RR certainly hasn't had any trouble signing top recruits after they visit his practices at Michigan.

This is the year to beat them. I've seen Newsome play, dangerous qb in RR's offense.

ant, I read somewhere that he wouldn't ever be allowed a schollie from OSU. Is that correct, and why? I understand the rivalry and all, but doesn't seem legal to go that route.

UK had a basketball player go to UofL because of Pitino. UK 1st refused to release his schollarship, but finally did under pressure. He then got a UofL schollie. Seems like te same situation, except not being in the same conference.

if true, it is because of BigTen conference rules.

Exactly. An athlete from a Big10 school can't transfer to another Big10 school and still receive a scholarship from the second school. He can transfer outside the conference and get a scholarship though. Either way, NCAA rules say he sits for a year.

Hey, it's O$U ... they have MULTIPLE ways of providing monetary aid to players, therefore, an "official scholarship" is not necessary in his case!!!
