Guys-the old cotton bowl had turf that did have a crown that drastic. It was an issue to get used to running on it. QB were always high with outs untill they adjusted. And I dont want to sound like the helmet police nerd but the paint or something has changed. They used to really look like gold bullion. I think they have changed the process a little. Frankly I dont care until we play Navy/Fla State/Army and their helmets look more golden than ours. That just should not be. With the way this team and program has started to improve and what we all feel is coming down the tracks I guess this is unimportant but I have noticed the helmet difference. Next year when their 10/2 or better we can bitch about these trivial things. I here the train coming.

I remember Tom Hammond saying something this season about that they are painting the game helmets on Monday or Tuesday evening during the week, so the helmets have a better chance to dry. Though he didn't say anything about the type of paint used.



Edit :I would love to see the Irish use the darker gold again.

Thanks for the explanation-vegas vs old gold. Lets get back to the right gold color. I believe its metallic gold. Or just GOLD. Pitt/Vandy/etc are vegas gold-because it means glamour. Notre Dame's gold was not mean for glamour it was meant to represent the basic value of the real element-worth/riches that were provided by the creator. No wonder the helmets look different. Hell----- Navy's looked exactly the same. Wake up and put the color back were it belongs. I'm with Rocket89 now this needs changing.

I'm usually all for matching the pants and helmets, but my issue with the current vegas gold pants are:

A. Everyone wears this color. From Navy to UW...all vegas gold. The only teams that don't are Ga Tech and BC who have both moved away from the shiny gold to a more matted old gold look.

B. There hasn't been any consistency to the pant color in my opinion. Sometimes they look really pale and almost white-ish. And then if its wet out or the players sweat heavily, the color gets drastically darker.

I think it also has to do with the changing helmet color, which as we've seen has gone through some changes in the recent past. They're trying to match the helmets and pants and it hasn't really worked all that well.

That's why I'm in favor of the old gold look, because 1.) It looks old school and bad *** obviously and 2.) You're explicity not really trying to match the pants and helmets, but I love how the pants look old school and allow the helmet to shine in all its glory. I don't like that our super shiny pants take away from the helmets.

Ironically, at the end of the USC game with the rain, the pants got a lot darker and much closer to old gold and I thought it looked awesome.

You can kind of see on Hayseed's pants where the vegas gold is turning into old gold.

Also, ND Equipment manager's Twitter feed mentioned the team is staying with the Adidas Tech-Fit jerseys and will switch to the Tech-Fit pants.

I could be wrong but if memory serves me the names have been on the jersey in several bowl games. Maybe as a perk to the players for making it to a bowl game.

I believe ARALOU is correct, it is a reward for the players. Having a ND jersey that was worn in a legit bowl game with your name on it is a pretty cool thing.

I wouldnt want the names on the jerseys for regular season games, but for bowl games I think its great, especially if your the ND player wearing it.

i know this isn't really on the current topic, but am i the only one who first of all doesnt like the techfit, and secondly doesn't like how the jerseys look more black than blue? i've always wished the jerseys were just a little more blue.

on another note, i love the green jerseys. i don't like the "gimmick" of only wearing them for really big games (like the 05 USC game) but i like the idea of making them more of an alternate type of jersey, where we wear them once a year or so, for example next year vs. USC or is we are highly ranked on senior day, etc.

I agree with the new Jerseys looking more black and i don't like that. I like the Green Jerseys. I say they wear them for a big game a year and maybe the bowl game.

I dont think Kelly will change this if its his idea, he's pretty much in charge but if it isnt his cup of tea I'd like to see the uniforms go back to gold. Not Vegas gold but the match of Lou/Ara's teams. Whatever the color is I want that back. Ara's color was darker because of material limitations at that time. Lou's color was the new poly type that could be matched exactly. This Vegas color if thats what it is is dull and lifeless.

hell yes...they are awesome...i love the vegas gold...the yellow w the gold helmets make me wanna puke, but i kinda like the green on occasion...and i like the names on the back, but only for the bowl games

I like the uniforms in Irishtrains picture the yellow and green look sweet, we should wear them occasionally.
The Notre Dame colors are blue and gold and as most people have said on here they should be a brighter gold then every other team, and the pants should be the same coloras the helmet.
I think it's time addidas steps up and starts making better uniforms, just look at the Nike uniform thread. Those are badass uniforms.

The only complaint I have on the uniforms is that the players look absurd with their pads with the tight jerseys, particularly Michael Floyd, who looks as if he has an SUV strapped to his chest under his uniform.
