Anyone have a response as to why Kevin Pyne got absolutely dumped on with his ranking? Is he having a terrible season? A 96 to an 89 drop on 247 is insanity so I wanna know what happened?

Screw the rating. Watch the film. He is a take, simply because he looks like he is 35 years old already. . . .oh yeah and he is a legit 6'7.
Probably want to ask those that dropped him. More than likely they’d have a better answer.
There’s some film out there from a recent game in which Pyne looks terrible. If that performance has been par for the course this season, I suspect other services will drop him as well.

my goodness does he get owned by that dude]....he should hire a firm to try to destroy this film on the internet
Well Ryan Clemente IS committed to Sacred Heart. Maybe Pyne's running a Flop, Flail and Fail scheme complete with Hudl highlights for under ranked DL recruits in New England? It's a genius hustle.
looked slow, weak and very very uncoordinated

Obviously that didn't look good, but you could also make a cutup of 8 or so plays from the BSU, Vandy, UM, or Pitt games that make some of our OL not look even P5 scholarship worthy. Or do the same for a handful of plays from McGlinchey last year and he was a top 10 draft pick. You could make an 8 play cutup of Book versus Pitt where he didn't look like a starting QB. Point is, extremely small sample size.
I'll reserve my judgement until I see or read more. Honestly, pretty crazy to make such a leap based on that alone.
FWIW, on the ISD recruiting podcast, Christian mentioned that he was out at Kevin's school to start the season and saw him practice and said that he was essentially everything you'd want in an elite OT prospect.
In The Film Room . . . Kevin Pyne

Being the self-deprecating, self-aware human being that Mike McGlinchey is, he probably would agree.
Kevin Pyne, the 6-foot-8½, 275-pound offensive tackle prospect out of Millis, Mass. – listed as a five-star and top 25 overall prospect – is every bit the prospect that McGlinchey was coming out of Philadelphia in 2013.
In fact, McGlinchey – at one time a high school tight end -- was the 131st-rated prep player when he came out of William Penn Charter in '13. After five years at Notre Dame, he joined teammate Quenton Nelson among the first nine players selected the 2018 NFL draft.
Pyne has a very comparable skillset.
The cousin of Notre Dame 2020 quarterback commit Drew Pyne, Kevin Pyne has outstanding length, tremendous physical maturity, and the light-on-your-feet assets that are the building blocks of a great offensive tackle.
Pyne is powerful while maintaining quickness and agility. He squares up physically-overpowered prep talent. That technique will help him when it becomes a more even physical fight. He is a proactive run blocker. He doesn't wait for the pressure to come to him and absorb the defender; he fires off the football, gathers his weight underneath him with knee bend, and explodes into defenders. He brings his feet and lower half into and through defenders.
For a player with such a long frame, Pyne does an outstanding job of bending at the knees and running like an athlete in open space. Pyne is legitimately light on his feet, which is the final piece in determining which side of the line he can play on at the next level.
Pyne plays with the widest base a 6-foot-8½ player can employ without reaching diminishing returns. He engages well with his hands and doesn't get caught off guard when it comes to getting his hands in a good blocking position prior to contact.
Not only does Pyne have the foot speed to play left tackle, he shows advanced footwork to go with that quickness. He meets speed pass rushes with a quick shuffle of the feet that belie his tremendous length. He does not look overmatched by speed rushers who apply pressure on the extreme outside.
Thankfully, Pyne does not resort to the "bully" approach that many of the high-level offensive linemen capable of overpowering opponents 100 pounds lighter employ. When he defeats his opponent – i.e. puts him on the ground – he seeks another block.
In fact, one would say that Pyne shows nice vision (a term normally associated with an offensive skill-position player) in pursuing pertinent blocks within the evolution of a play. He has stays balanced and on his feet, which allows him to seek multiple blocks.
A tackle tandem of Pyne and current Notre Dame 2019 verbal commitment Andrew Kristofic would give the Irish an incredible duo down the road and a welcome decision to move one of them to the right side. (Quinn Carroll could always join Zeke Correll and John Olmstead on the interior.)
Of course, Notre Dame has not landed Pyne with a verbal commitment. Since 247Sports' Steve Wiltfong, Tom Loy and Kevin Sinclair all gave crystal balls to Notre Dame with Pyne in April, Pyne has remained quiet. He visited Notre Dame in mid-April. He has one crystal ball to Michigan and has received offers from other heavyweights such as Ohio State, Clemson, Georgia, Auburn, Florida State, Wisconsin and Florida.
With his cousin verbally committed to Notre Dame, the Irish have to feel good about the chances of landing Kevin Pyne, particularly with the recruiting job offensive line coach Jeff Quinn has done since taking over for Harry Hiestand.
Kevin Pyne is a prospect truly deserving of five stars and a top 25 ranking.
And let me just be clear, he very well could've been overrated from the beginning, honestly never watched his film. I have no care in the world about his ranking, it's about how they came to the ranking adjustment. It would be such a clown 247 thing to do in that they came across that film and dropped him that much because of it. Classic "talent evaluators" at their best.
I mean if his tape sucks, how do they justify keeping him as a 5 or even 4 star? Also, would we feel this strongly if he weren’t an ND lean? Is he even an ND lean? I’m sure if Pyne was leaning towards scUM, we’d all be alright with the ratings drop.
He had good highlight film from last year (not Walter Rouse/NPF good) vs bad comp. He has no national camp highlight footage / HS game film of his own this season to counter balance the bad that's out there.
When I like a guy, I'll say so. That's why I haven't said much about this guy, I don't have an educated opinion to share in regards him. All there was was he has/had R&R's that help your class standing and his cousin is the 2020 Class QB.
No idea where it goes but it will be an interesting follow.
Dude is 40. He's past his prime. Makes sense he's starting to struggle.
